1 year to go: UKCC Level 2 conversion deadline 31

st
March 2015
As you should already be aware, the deadline for any coaches with an old England Netball Level 2 to convert
their Award to a UKCC Level 2 qualification (via the Conversion course) is 31
st
March 2015!
This deadline is getting closer (particularly when you consider the South West currently only has one confirmed
course between now and then), so with this in mind, please can you ensure that you pass this email on to any
coaches with an old England Netball Level 2 who intend to continue coaching past the deadline.
With the deadline now just under a year away, I have put together some FAQs to help answer any questions
you/your fellow coaches might have about the UKCC Level 2 conversion course hopefully these will clarify the
situation and alleviate any concerns you might have.
Why are England Netball asking us to upgrade?
England Netball are committed to the development of coaches and want to support all of our coaches to
transition to a nationally recognised UKCC qualification. We wish to establish a platform on which we can provide
tailored, needs led continued professional development for our coaches and as such, have concluded that
holding a UKCC qualification will be the baseline. The UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC) is an endorsement of
sports-specific coach education. It ensures that sports are delivering the best available, athlete centred coaching
both in recreational, development and performance environments. It is a joint Netball development between
England Netball, Welsh Netball and Netball Scotland.
So, is everything I know out of date?
No! This course is aimed at existing, active coaches who hold the England Netball old Level 2 Award and allows
those coaches to gain a UKCC qualification in the most time and cost effective manner. The UKCC Level 2
Conversion Course gives recognition for your existing England Netball Level 2 Coaching Award. As a result, most
of the new theory and skills are learnt through home study as opposed to course attendance. Your experience as
a coach has been acknowledged so that you draw on this during the home study and completion of portfolio
tasks. You will find a breakdown of the course on the England Netball website (Click Here).
What happens if I dont convert in time?
After the deadline (31
st
March 2015), coaches with an old Level 2 Award will not be qualified to coach in any
England Netball recognised programme this includes CAPS clubs, Holiday camps and all Performance
Pathway Programmes. England Netball are fully committed to this initiative to develop our coaches and therefore
it will apply to all programmes across the organisation.
Coaches will not be covered by the Public Liability insurance through their England Netball membership and will
therefore not be insured to coach (and should anything happen as a direct result of their coaching, they wont be
covered should a claim be made against them).
Coaches can take out their own private insurance, but this will obviously have an additional cost attached, and
coaches will still not be permitted to coach directly within England Netball recognised programmes.
Please note: Coaches involved with CAPS clubs will not be able to use their old awards as evidence for CAPS
accreditations.
There will be no more conversion courses after the deadline (31
st
March 2015), so if a coach wishes to obtain a
UKCC Level 2 qualification after the deadline, they will be required to attend the full course (5 days) and pay the
full cost to attend (360/395)
