-adaun, Uttar 4radesh. C35I is shoc(ed at news re#orts that the concerned #olice o77icers
sided with the #er#etrators and even had the teerity to shoo away the 7aily e%ers o7
the /irls the day the /irls went issin/. Addin/ to this a%solutely 7ailed state o7 #olicin/ is the
7act that the head o7 the local #olice out#ost had i/nored #revious co#laints o7 harassent
o7 the /irls %y their 7aily e%ers.

<his horri%le incident is another deonstration o7 the co#lete %rea(down o7 law and order in
Uttar 4radesh and the 7ear under which the #oor es#ecially live. <here can %e no ho#e o7
#reventin/ or inii,in/ ra#e i7 our Glaw en7orcersH are a#athetic to it. <he essa/e ust %e

Code, which a(es re7usal %y a #olice o77icer to re/ister an ;I5 and investi/ate a 7ealeIs
co#laint o7 se&ual assault a #unisha%le o77ence.

<his incident, alon/ with the uneasy i&ture o7 slow or no #olice res#onse to other such
cries o7 ra#e, calls into Juestion the coitent o7 the #olice and /overnent to #rovidin/
any easure o7 sa7ety and security to the #u%lic. As Ms. Maja Daruwala, Director o7 C35I,
states Gunless there is a 7ull e&aination o7 the chain o7 coand and the #olice is reva#ed
7ro to# to toe, these tra/edies will continue to occurH.
