RICK & SUZANNE YORK

MISSIONARIES TO
PUERTO RICO
Rick and Suzanne York have been serving as
missionaries in Puerto Rico for the past eight
years. Rick is from Danville, Illinois, and is a
graduate of Johnson Bible College. Suzanne is from
Ironton, Ohio, and is a graduate of Milligan
College. They served from 1972-1976 with the
Iglesia de Cristo and the Puerto Rico Christian
School in Levittown, a suburb of San Juan.
Rick has served the last four years as the Director of the Christian Day School
in Caparra Terrace. The school is an evangelistic outreach of the Iglesia de Cristo
in Caparra Terrace. The school now has an enrollment of 275 students. Rick and Suzanne
have been faithfully supported by their home churches and other Churches of Christ
throughout their ministry in Puerto Rico. They are also the proud parents of Emily
Suzanne, who was born on July 3,1979.
In 1970 there was one Church of Christ(Christian) on the island. In 1980 there are
seven active and growing churches and the churches have set a goal of starting 10 new
churches in the next 10 years. Rick and Suzanne are eager to help reach this goal and
are planning to begin a new church in San German, on the southwestern side of the island.
Their ministry there will include home Bible studies, training teachers and leaders
for the church. Their goal is to have the church established and able to lead itself
by 1987, Rick and Suzanne feel very strongly that the key to growth in the church in
Puerto Rico is to train the people to do the job themselves. Already several contacts
have been made in San German through Christians who have family members living there
or friends living there who have expressed interest in learning more about New Testament
Christianity.
Rick and Suzanne have several specific needs. As of now their monthly support
averages $ 850.00 . They will need for the next three to four years an average of $1300.00
monthly for their living link. They also need to establish a service link of $400-500
monthly to help pay for the renting or buying of a building, chairs, Bibles, tracts,
and other materials. They are also praying for the use of a van for the church in San
German. Purchasing one in the U.S. and shipping it to Puerto Rico will probably be the
most economical way. Also needed are a good electric typewriter and a filnstrip projector.
Most of all Rick and Suzanne need your prayers . Without the support of your
prayers their work would not be possible.* Pray that they will be used by the Lord to
reach the four million people living in Puerto Rico!
Support should be sent to Rick and Suzanne's forwarding agents:
Mr. and Mrs. Don Merriman

Please be praying for them and the work of our Lord in Puerto Rico!

MERRY CHRISTMAS
FROM
THE YORKS
Dear Christian friends,
Greetings in Christ our Lord. We hope that the
holiday season ^nds you and your family well.
Suzanne, Emily, and I were able to come back to the
States on furlough on Septemberthe fifth. Since then wehave done a great deal oftraveling and speaking
and we'vehad a very enjoyable time. Whenweleft Puerto RicoSuzanne and Emily flewback tostaywith
Suzanne's mother, Thelma Swango, in Ironton, Ohio. I flew out to California and after a few days visit
with my sister, Lois, and her family, I was involved for five weeks with the Northwest Missionary
Conference in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana. After driving through eighteen inches of snow
in Montana I finally made it back to Ohio.
We then left the last week of October for Springfield, Illinois and the National Missionary
Convention. I was able tospeak in one of the workshops and wewere able to see some of our old friends and
make many new ones. Wethen traveled to Oklahoma and Kansas for the Southwest School of Missions for
twoweeks. Boththe conferences inthe Northwestand Southwestwere excellent. We were abletospeaktoa
different church every night and we really enjoyed that.
We'renowback in Ohiofor the holidays and wewill bespeaking in this area. I was recently involved
in a missions rallyat Kentucky ChristianCollege and it wasgreat toseesomanyyoung people interested
in mission work. We'll be here until Christmas and then on to Illinois to speak with churches in that area
and to spendsome timewithmyfamilythere. We've reallyenjoyed the time we've beenabletospendwith
our loved ones here in the U.S. The cold weather and snow somehow make it seem more like Christmas
than the palmtrees and 80degree temperature doin Puerto Rico. Emilysaw her first snownot longago
and really enjoyed trying to eat some.
We're back on furlough to report to our supporting churches and to seekadditional support. We're
trying to raise. Lord willing, $400more per month for our living link and $300-400 for a service link. Some
churches haveagreed toeitherraiseoursupportorstart tosupportusbut we're still well short ofourgoals.
Pleasebe prajdngthat the Lord will provide forourneeds. Healwayshas and we are veryconfident that
He will answer our prayers.
We wishyou all the veryhappiest ofChristmasseasonsand we hope that we all will taketimeduring
all the hustleand bustletostopand thank the Lord forsendingChrist tobebomin a lowly stable.May He
bless you and your family richly.
