start sowing some
seeds to grow your
own veggies and
herbs!.
ITS BUZZING Here comes a special piece of news for all bee
friends out there! Swansea University has become the host to two new
pilot beehives in the Botanical Garden. Throughout the UK bee
populatons have sufered drastc decline. In line with the Universitys
Biodiversity Acton Plan this project will hopefully contribute to the
conservaton of bees. We ask all visitors of the Botanical Garden to be
aware and respectul of the beehives. Unless threatened bees are
peaceful insects and wont bother you. They will be busy collectng nectar
and hopefully pollinate some of your Polytunnel lots!

Strolling through the Botanical
Garden for lunch break some of you
may have notced the ORACLE
building project. This excitng project
was launched in December and is due
to be completed in June. The ORACLE
will be used to foster outdoor
engagement of staf and students.
You can even get involved in building
the unique structure by contactng
Nick Johnson and sign up to one of
the two three-day dry stone walling
courses with Down to Earth.

ACTION IN THE BOTANICAL GARDEN!

BECOME AN IPC
CHAMPION
Swansea, Wales will host the 2014 IPC Athletics European Championships,
drawing around 600 athletes from 40 countries. Championship organisers are
looking to recruit up to 1,000 volunteers from across Europe to help deliver
the event, which is the first of its kind to be held in the UK. Be part of this
outstanding event and apply online to become a volunteer champion. For

MENTAL HEALTH DAY

Mark this date! As part of Mental Health Week several
departments are hosting a number of events with the aim
of promoting good mental health amongst the student and
staff population. For more details contact Rachel Edwards.
To further enhance
staff, student and
institutional
wellbeing the SHE/
Sustainability team
is now drafting a
Wellbeing Action
Plan for Swansea
University.

At
the end of January ten
amazing students conducted
a waste infrastructure survey of the
university for the Sustainability team as
part of the Universitys Employability
Week. The students did a great job and
wowed the team with their motivation
and insights! Following this successful
week, we will train another host of 30
students to become energy auditors
and perform energy audits of Green Impact teams on 19th February. If
you are part of a Green Impact team you can request an energy audit
by contacting Ambreen Jahangir!
ACTION ON THE GROUND
As
of February Swansea University
is boasting 29 active Green
Impact teams, which is the highest
number of teams in Wales! New teams
have sprung up especially in the School of
Engineering and Medicinewell done
guys! We are also proud to welcome the
Grounds team to our growing Green
Impact community. Additionally, some
teams are boosting their competitive
advantage by recruiting energetic Green Impact Project Assistants
to their teams. Good idea with crunch time coming up and
competition heating up!

On Thursday, 20th February the
sustainability team will run a pilot
Blackout of Haldane Building as part
of Go Green Week. Together with
students from People & Planet, The
Pagan Society and the Conservation
Society the team will switch off all
unnecessarily left on appliances.
