GOD OF MISCHIEF,
TRICKSTER
Definition Loki
Loki is known as the
trickster god. He is the
personification of both
aspects of fire: the merry
but potentially dangerous
hearth fire and the
destructive fire of forest
and volcano. He was so
mischievous that he even
sneaked himself into
becoming a God. He was
actually the first anti-hero.
There is no cause of
death to Loki, hes
immortal and gets
punished for the death of
Baldur.
Trickster - a
deceiver; cheat;
fraud.

Mischief- playful
misbehavior or
troublemaking
THE FIRE GOD
Definition Surt
Worship or deification of
fire.
With the flaming sword who will set
fire to the world. He is called the
leader of the sons of Muspellheim,
land of fire. An island south of and
belonging to Iceland named for the
Norse fire god, Surt. It was formed
by a volcanic eruption from an
underwater volcano, Surtur.
A GOD OF WAR
Definition Tyr
A god of war - a god
worshipped as giving
victory in war.
The bravest of the gods. By the time
the Norse myths were written down,
Tyrs importance had diminished and
not much is known about him now.
But we know that he was the only
brave god to put is hand into the jaws
of the terrible wolf. (Fenris)
VIKINGS
The terror of Europe. The most feared warrior of the ancient world. The
terrorized Europe with their raids and pillaging. They were big and mean
and used their axes, swords, and spears. One of the biggest beliefs they
had was that if you died in battle you fought once again in a never ending
battle.
LORD OF THE SEA
Definition Aegir
In Anglo-Saxon mythology Aegir
was called Eagor. Whenever an
unusually large wave approached
men at the sea, they cried, Look
out, Eagor is coming!
Supposedly, in ancient Sax on
times one out of every 10
prisoners was sacrificed to Eagor
to ensure that the raiders would
return safely home.
Lord of the sea - a deity that
personifies the sea and is
usually believed to live in or to
control the sea.
SELKIES
Selkies are creatures found in Faroese, Icelandic, and Scottish
mythology. They have the ability to transform themselves from seal to
human form. They are allowed to make contact with humans for only a
short amount of time before they must return to the sea. Male selkies are
very handsome in their human form, and have great seduction powers
over women. If a man finds and steals a female selkies skin then she will
be under his control and is often times forced to become his wife.
THE GODDESS OF DEATH AND
UNDERWORLD
Definition Hel (Hela, Hell)
Underworld- The world of the
dead, located below the world
of the living.
The daughter of the God Loki. Her
brothers were Fenris(wolf),
Jormungand, the Midgard
Serpent. Hel was terrible to look
at, for one half of her was greenish
black and the other a livid white,
with flesh that seemed to be
rotting, and her face was gloomy
and grim.
GOD OF THUNDER
Definition Thor
God of thunder- the
personification or source of
the forces of thunder and
lightning.
Thor was one of the most
powerful gods there was. His
hammer symbolized fertility,
which was his greatest
possession. He rode a chariot
pulled by two Billy goats. The
wheels of the cart made a
noise like thunder and
lightning flashed around
them.
THE GODDESS OF LOVE AND
FERTILITY
Definition Freya
She was exceedingly beautiful
and many fell in love with her.
She had a talent for witchcraft.
She instructed gods about
magic charms and positions.
She also had a warlike side and
loved battle. Also, her most prize
possession was the
Brisingamen necklace.
The goddess of love and
fertility- a goddess
associated with love,
sexuality, beauty, fertility,
gold, war, and death.
WOMEN WARRIORS
The Valkyries were female warlike virgins, who mounted upon horses and
armed themselves with helmets and spears and would choose who died in
battle. Always in groups of 6, 9, or 13, they would hover over the battlefield
and select half of those who died in battle and take them to Vahalla.
DWARFS
Small and misshapen creatures made from the maggots in the giant, Ymirs,
dead body. They lived under the ground in the world of Nidavellir, in the
home of the Dwarfs. They were naturally good at crafting and loved
treasures and rare metals.
GIANTS (JOTUNS)
The first living being was a jotun called Ymir, from whom the world was
created. A jotun was a giant with superhuman strength; their homeland was
Jotunhelm, which is one of the nine worlds. Jotunhelm was mostly made my
mountains, wilderness, and dense forest.
ELVES (LIGHT)
Light elves were beautiful creatures. They were considered to be the
guardian angels. The god Freyr, was the ruler of Alfheim. The light elves
were minor gods of nature and fertility; they could help or hinder humans with
their knowledge of magical powers. They also often delivered an inspiration
to art or music, much like a muse.
END OF THE WORLD
(RAGNAROK)
Doom of gods and humans. It would be the final battle between the Aesir and
Jotuns. The battle will take place on the plains called Vigrid. There are
warning signs that Ragnarok the end of the world is coming near. The
murder of Balder would be the first sign. Another warning sign was a long
and cold winter that would last for three years with no summer between.
These uninterrupted winters are called Fimbulwinter.
TREE OF LIFE
(YGGDRASIL)
In the middle of Asgard was Yggdrasil, the tree of life. It was an emerald
green Ash tree; its branches stretched out over all of the nine worlds, and
extended up and above the heavens. Yggdrasil was carried by three
enormous roots. One went to Urds well on Asgard, the seconds went by
Mimirs well on Jotunheim and the third goes close to the well Hvergelmir on
Neiflheim.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion Norse mythology is entertaining. Matter fact, all religions
and all myths due to every culture around the world is exciting to learn
about. We, as a group, learned so much about our countries. Not only did
we know some facts about some of the little archetypes about each
character but after this project we learned so much that we have this
experience and knowledge to share with others.
