Donald and Eleanor Davis are missionaries of the Christian
Churches or Churches of Christ on furlough in the United States after a five year term of service with the Central Provinces India Mission at Bilaspur, M. P., India. Don has served for the past three years in India as the principal of the Schaefer Memorial Christian High School and Kududand Pri mary School of Bilaspur. This has included the management of the Christian Home for orphans and underprivileged boarding students who come from churches of Central India. While learning the Indian language, Hindi, he served as instructor in the Central India Bible College. Eleanor, in addition to being mother of three small boys, has assisted the care of some sixty orphans in the Home. She has also studied the Hindi language and handles much of the correspondence of the Mission. The Davis* children were all born in India. They are: Mark Alan, age 5; Donald, Jr., 4; Wayne, 2. AREA OF WORK Bilaspur is a railway junction and city of some sixty thousand people near the geographic center of India. It is the center of mission ary activity for the area. The majority of the people of the area are Hindus. There are also Muslims, Sikhs and aboriginal animists. There are two strong Christian churches in Bilaspur, both of which are a result of the pioneer work of Harry and Emma Schaefer, who went to India in 1913. The mission work of Bilaspur was greatly expanded under their son, Harry Schaefer. Other missionaries include Ben and Estelle Schiller who plan to return to India soon to work with the High School. Presently Bernel and Joan Getter continue with the Sarguja District work amongst the Groan tribals and the Orissa churches. William and Jean Roland lead the Central India Bible College which supplies the area with an indigenous ministry. EVANGELISTIC AND EDUCATIONAL WORK The evangelistic and educational work of the Davises has been supplemented by the systematic writing, publishing and distribution of Christian literature in both Hindi and English language media. Don has served two terms as the chairman of the New Testament Publi cation Association, a cooperative effort of missionaries in India. Upon returning to India one project aims at placing a Bible in every Christian home. In addition to his work in central India, Don has conducted evangelistic campaigns in the North-east Indian province of Assam and Madras in the South. The Davises plan to return to India early summer, 1960, to begin their second term of service there. METHOD OF SUPPORT Both Don and Eleanor Davis are supported by the congregations in which they grew up: Don is the overseas minister of the First Christian Church of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Eleanor is supported by the the Madisonville Christian Church of Cincinnati, Ohio. During their one year stay in America they hope to subscribe funds that will en able them to continue work already started and to expand in newer promising areas. Don writes, "In the past our mission funds hove been extremely limited. It is hoped that our American Christian friends will pledge support to this work of God. We will promise in return to spend these funds as wisely as we know how and to keep our contributors informed as to what their funds enable us to do. We ask individuals and churches to consider seriousiy adopting one or more of the follow ing projects while we are still able to work in this great country." HERE IS HOW YOU CAN HELP The SERVICE LINK PLAN helps to put the mission work on a definite business-like basis. With this plan our church has a definite relation ship with a definite project in a definite village or evangelistic center. A service link pays an evangelist, builds living quarters for him and helps in the purchase of needed evangelistic equipment. Take a Service Link and preach Christ in India!
