Country's denim products export marks 20pc
rise in last one year
Published : Thursday, 17 January 2013
Shah Alam Nur
Country's denim sector is
flourishing thanks to
increasing orders from
global buyers turning from
countries like China and
Turkey to Bangladesh.
Competitive price range
with better quality products
help increase the orders of
denim goods, industry
insiders said.
"Export orders for denim are on the rise in the country. The product's export
growth marked a double digit in last one year, because more and more
buyers are coming here for denim goods, thanks to low labour costs and
better quality", Managing Director of Argon Denims Anwar-ul-Alam
Chowdhury Parvez told the FE.
He said denim goods have good demand in the countries where Bangladesh
ready-made garment (RMG) products are exported.
But the European Union, the US and Russia are on the top of the list of
Bangladeshi denim importing nations, he said.
Most people in the world use denim fabric goods. Now buyers are switching
over to Bangladesh for denim products from China, India and Pakistan, Mr
Parvez said.
The countries which would purchase denim goods from China, India, Pakistan
and Turkey some years back, are now switching over to Bangladesh due to
low labour cost and better quality of the goods, he said.
Deputy Managing Director of Nassa Taipei Denim Ltd Khandakar Mohammed
Saiful Alam said "Now Bangladesh is a big supplier of denim to the US and EU
countries".
He said in last six months the growth of denim products export to those
countries rose by 27 per cent.
Now denim fabric is available in Bangladesh and competitive price is helping
to capture those markets, he said
Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) statistics show in last six months
(June-December) ready-made garment (RMG) makers exported nearly 100
million pairs of denim jeans in men's and boys category to US and EU.
