the two coordinators of the El Vieo !outh "entre# El Viejo Youth Centre report for 2013 In January this year the SRF received the Report on 2013 Educational Activities produced by the outh !entre in El "ie#o$ %hrou&h the 'erri( Sisters in El "ie#o) the Fund has supported the outh !entre *or a nu+ber o* years and pays the salary o* the coordinator o* the !entre$ Since the be&innin& o* 2013) ,hen -illia+ "ar&as +oved to other pastures) the ,or. o* the coordinator has been shared bet,een Eli/(er Ra+0n 1rti( 2edina and F3ti+a 4$ Eli/(er ,rote the report *or 2013 and ,e include here #ust a *e, short e5tracts) translated *or the ne,sletter$ Scholarship groups $he %ouths who recei&e 'rants are funded b% the Friends of (olland Foundation# $he% are trained in issues of non)&iolence, sexual health, 'ender and masculinit%, en&ironmental care and *rotection and s*iritualit%# A *articular issue we ha&e dealt with this %ear is mi'ration because of its 'reat im*ortance in this countr%, in which +, *er cent of families ha&e somebod% wor-in' abroad# $his has re*ercussions for famil% and social life# .t is es*eciall% im*ortant to address this issue because man% %ouths are unaware of the ris-s and conse/uences of mi'ration# Culture groups .n 0,12 the "entre had a 'rou* of 2, bo%s and 'irls on a drawin' course and a 'rou* of 3 adolescents in a 'uitar 'rou* throu'hout the %ear# $he ex*erience of runnin' these 'rou*s ma-es me reflect on the need to start wor- on this t%*e of formation as %oun' as *ossible so that all the social norms can be deconstructed# $hese courses facilitate a *ositi&e attitude to and inte'ration into societ% of these %oun' *eo*le# Sports leagues $he !outh "entre has teams in the lea'ues of three s*orts4 5)a)side football, bas-etball and &olle%ball (male and female)# $he winnin' teams ha&e done well throu'hout the %ear6 but one of the thin's we realise in the !outh "entre is that it isn7t ust a matter of *la%in' the 'ame, but also the &alues, the relationshi*s, the com*anionshi*, the for'i&eness and the 'ender e/uit% that are *romoted which are im*ortant# A few of the s*orts tro*hies won b% teams at the El Vieo !outh "entre# Interventions with secondary school students .n 0,12, we wor-ed with students of the 1st, 0nd and 2rd %ears of secondar% education, althou'h this de*ended on *ermission bein' 'ranted b% the schools# $he methodolo'% used was sim*le in that it consisted of seminars and discussions based on distinct and s*ecific /uestions or issues# Video forums were also used# $he followin' issues made u* the s*ecific themes4 Bo%friends, 'irlfriends and sexual relationshi*s 8re'nanc% a&oidance in adolescents 9ender discrimination School &iolence Sexist &iolence $he media and &iolence .na**ro*riate use of the internet $he conse/uences of &iewin' *orno'ra*h% :an'ers associated with social networ-s $he %oun' *eo*le who were in&ol&ed said that the acti&ities were &aluable and informati&e about their ri'hts, *articularl% because in the schools these issues are not addressed# Sons and daughters of migrant families a new group ;e are aware that mi'ration is a *henomenon which affects not ust those who mi'rate but also the relati&es of those who sta%, es*eciall% the children# <i'ration im*acts the famil% ne'ati&el% throu'h famil% disinte'ration, and it is im*ortant to consider the welfare of famil% members left behind as well as the isolation of those who mi'rate# .n the !outh "entre, we want to ensure the inte'ration of these children into our initiati&es and *roects# $hrou'hout the %ear we ha&e wor-ed with a 'rou* of =, sons and dau'hters of mi'rant families and we want this wor- to continue its su**ort of these children# .t is worth mentionin' that in our town there are no other *roects which wor- with these children# $he wor- with them included issues of self)esteem, &alues, *ersonal 'rowth, the im*ortance of the famil%, emotions and attitudes as well as s*orts and 'ames, in all cases a**l%in' a 'ame methodolo'%# Eliezer >am?n @rtiz <edina
