Role and Functions of Law in Business
The function and role of law in business is complex but at the same time simple. Law
and business go hand and hand to prevent malpractice in the business world and to safeguard all
parties involved. Companies depend on business law to protect their company when they are
overseeing business with other companies or investors. There are different systems of law such
as Local, State, and Federal systems but the main intention of all three systems; are to protect the
company, investors, suppliers, consumers, and vendors. There are laws put into place for
countless business dealings; for example when it comes to importing there are laws for tariffs
and trading, protecting both the importing and exporting countries and companies, this can be
seen in the Tariff and Trade Act of 1984 ("Jewish Virtual Library", 2013). There are laws when
companies buy and sell other companies, or even for buying products from one company and
selling it at another. Again these laws are put into place to protect all parties that are involved.
What make these laws complex are the countless numbers of laws that are in place and the
severity of each law.

United States of Air Force and Law
While serving in the United States Air Force I along with thousands of other men and
women in the various branches were held subject under the Uniform Code of Military Justice
(UCMJ) collectively with the civilian laws. The UCMJ are recognized rules for the self-
governing process, jurisdiction, and directive of the United states military branches which
include the United States Air Force, Marine Corps, Army and Navy. It is often stated by
military members and officials that military members are held to a higher standard than those in
the civilian existence. This military law was created in order to govern military members and
maintain order and justice within the branches. The UCMJ is very extensive and depending
where the service members are stationed the local and international laws become part of the
UCMJ. The UCMJ is implemented throughout the different branches in diverse manners such as
military commissions, provost courts, courts-martial, commanding officers and officers in
charge, and courts of inquiry (What is the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ)?). This
articles that are in place by the Uniform Code of Military Justice are in place to help protect the
service member as well. As a member of the Armed Forces I had to conduct myself in a
professional manner both on and off duty. I knew that there would be consequences for my
actions based on what I did.
