Classification: Full-Time Supervised by: Board of Directors
About AJE is governed and led by parents. AJE staff reflects the diversity and rich experiences of our clients. Eighty percent of our Board of Directors has a child or is a caregiver for a child with special needs. Of AJEs staff members, forty-six percent are parents of a child with special needs or a caregiver of a child with special needs. Staff are fluent in Spanish and Vietnamese. In 1996, Advocates for Justice and Education, Inc. (AJE) was created as a mechanism to increase parental involvement in the education of children with special needs. A.J.E. uses parent empowerment as a model to address grave injustices in the delivery of services to meet the most basic special education needs. AJE was formed to motivate and educate parents, and those working with parents about the laws that govern special education and related services, and the consequences of institutional negligence and/or inappropriate classification of students with special needs. Our Mission The mission of Advocates for Justice and Education (AJE) is to educate parents, youth, and the community about the laws governing public education, specifically for children with special needs. We seek to empower youth and parents to be effective advocates and youth to self-advocate to ensure that children receive an appropriate education. It is also our mission to make the public aware of the consequences of institutional negligence of children with or without disabilities and to promote school accountability.
