Write a five-paragraph essay focusing on "The importance of conversation in
class", based on the ideas discussed by bell hooks on the text "Conversation".
Your text must have introduction, development, and conclusion.

Giving support to the development of active learners who will be able to
express themselves and become critical can be difficult, as many of the known
ways of teaching are based on the passive learner. It is easier to pass on the
held knowledge by just lecturing to an audience than through conversation
because it may be the way many of us have learnt and we tend to repeat it.
Conversation, on the other hand, is a way to give support to students so that
they can feel as part of a group as a voice and by having a voice; being heard
as a unique individual which may lead them to conquer their own spot in
society, also giving them a position where they can stand as sensible thinkers.
A conversation consists of dialogue, and together people may re-invent
themselves, creating new perspectives and it may help students to understand
their own selves better because conversations are not singular, they are
constructed by different points of view, that added to the knowledge of ones that
take part of it, giving them new ideas and promoting the exchange of
understanding and meanings. Also making them think about the concepts pre-
established by society, driving them to question what there is to be questioned
and analyse their surroundings so it can be proved or studied better through the
construction of new information.
Communities have been trained to value silence and to change this will be a
difficult task, but once conversation has started it can develop to an interesting
sharing of information creating the environment and the expected learning
abilities one needs to become an active learner.
It can be said that information is held by dominant classes and by holding
information one also holds power; conversation comes in at this point as the
opposite meaning to dominant, as conversation is about giving. It means that
conversation is sharing the power and sharing the power of knowledge is
fundamental to one to became not only a voice to be heard but also a subject
who will bring about a crucial intervention in diversity as conversation leads to
dialogue avoiding the formation of assumptions, forming thinkers that will be
able to look at different situations and analyse them from a distance and to
become more aware of the possibilities to solve important matters.
The importance of conversation in classrooms of all ages cannot be
questioned. It leads to the formation of active learners through critical thinking,
creating as such, a community where tolerance will play an important role, not
only in teaching but also in sharing information causing the society gap to
decrease as power will be then shared.
