Hughes Outroute Cancellation
Module
Hughes Network Systems, LLC (Hughes) is the worlds leading provider of satellite broadband for home and ofce, delivering innovative
network technologies, managed services, and solutions for enterprises and governments globally. HughesNet

is the #1 high-speed
satellite Internet service in the marketplace, with offerings to suit every budget. To date, Hughes has shipped more than 2.5 million
systems to customers in over 100 countries, representing over 50 percent market share. Its products employ global standards approved
by the TIA, ETSI, and ITU organizations, including IPoS/DVB-S2, RSM-A, and GMR-1. Headquartered outside Washington, D.C., in
Germantown, Maryland, USA, Hughes operates sales and support ofces worldwide, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of EchoStar
Corporation (NASDAQ: SATS), a premier global provider of satellite operations and digital TV solutions.

Signicant bandwidth cost savings through frequency reuse
The Hughes Outroute Cancellation Module (OCM) is a patented
technology that enables service providers to maximize their spectral
efciencythereby yielding signicant savings in space segment
costs.
The Hughes OCM is based on an overlay system (in Ku- or C-band)
whereby the outroute and inroute trafc share the same frequency
spectrum. Advanced signal processing is used at the hub to cancel
the overlaid outroute signal, leaving the inroute signal to be cleanly
demodulated.
Key Features:
Q Works best with partial transponders
Q Transparent to type of modulation or coding
Q User-friendly GUI with multiple congurable parameters
Q Remote monitoring capability complete with alarms and logs
The OCM feature supports the full suite of services enabled by
the HN/HX Systems including advanced features such as Inbound
Quality of Service (IQoS) for guaranteed inbound bandwidth, and is
compliant with the DVB-S2 standard for outroute transmission.
The Hughes OCM with its advanced frequency reuse scheme is the
ideal solution for service providers or enterprises looking to further
improve network operating efciency while lowering operating costs.
The Hughes OCM is yet another example of the Hughes commitment
to providing its customers with a highly efcient satellite platform to
deliver the widest range of broadband applications and services.

Outroute Cancellation Module works best where;
Q network capacity is bandwidth limited where additional power is available,
Q outroute carriers operate in linear mode,
Q differences in power density between outroute and inroute carriers is 8 dB or more,
Q benets increase as the ratio of inroute to outroute trafc approaches 1:1, and
Q as a general rule, up to 50 percent of the outroute capacity can be reused, assuming sufcient power.

Architecture Overview
Outroute cancellation is achieved by reconstructing the outroute
signal and then subtracting it from the composite received signal.
Remote terminals using the OCM feature are required to operate in
Hughes TurboCode

mode, which enables inroutes to recover power

and bandwidth margins, allowing them to share the same outroute
bandwidth.
