20140823-G. H .Schorel-Hlavka O.W.B. to Boeing - Australia & South Pacific -MH17 & Titanic rivet effect- etc Sir/Madam, without repeating my writings I have enclosed hereby a correspondence to President 10 Vladimir Putin, which relates also to my view of design problems with the Boeing 777. Did MH17 (and other planes) have the Titanic rivet kind of weakness?
The document can be downloaded from: http://www.scribd.com/doc/237516048/20140823-G-H-Schorel-Hlavka-O-W-B-to-Mr-v-Putin- 15 President-Re-Ukraine-and-Its-Constitution-MH17-Versus-Titanic-Etc
It is my perception that more than likely for aerodynamic purposes (to reduce the drag) on the body of a plane Boeing may have elected to use as much as possible Boeing decided not to use for all rivets the mushroom head but to use instead on numerous places row after row 20 countersank heads. Using a countersank hole rather than a small radius such as with mushroom head rivets also in my view further weakens the panels when it is subjected to extra ordinary forces. It appears to me from the pictures that the mushroom head rivets didnt fail and neither did the plates rip along the rivet lines whereas with the countersank rivets one can notice a sheer along the river line 25 and/or the countersank rivet heads having been pulled through the rivet holes, seemingly (to me) the rivet heads are too weak. What therefore ought to be established is, what was the original damage to MH17 caused allegedly by a missile, and could MH17 have landed safely, or less prone to a mid-air break up, and so lives could have been saved had the body structure not have countersank rivets but 30 mushroom rivets instead throughout its entire body?
In my view this is a very serious matter as not uncommon planes are for whatever reason downed. If in fact mid-air destruction can be limited/avoided by using mushroom head instead of countersank head rivets, as by this both the rivets are more sturdier, and the panels fitted are 35 structural sound, because less material is removed by using a radius instead of countersinking The images reproduced below show numerous rows of countersank rivets having been pulled through the panels and it is likely because the little material used as a countersank head is seemingly insufficient to carry the stresses, when it comes to extreme forces, whereas the mushroom head counter sank rivets for so far I was aware of didnt let go and the panels 40 remained intact where the rivets were fitted. Because some of the damage of beams breaking up may have been caused when parts hit the ground, it cannot be claimed that all beams cracking up eventuated mid-air. Perhaps by reconstructing the plane (by retrieving the damaged parts) it can be established where more than likely a missile caused damage to MH17 and if this in itself was fatal or if the 45 subsequent failure of the rivets and panels caused MH17 to break up in mid-air.

In todays society of surface to air missiles, the structure of planes may need to perhaps be more structural sound than previous may have been anticipated. But whatever may in time eventuating I view Boeing should concern itself with what appears to me a dramatic 5 considerable failure by mushroom head rivets and panels much as I understand was the real reason with Titanic rivets (albeit they were mushroom head rivets but too weak for the job) and the shearing of the panels.

Re Violation of Ukraine sovereignity-MH17 versus Titanic -etc 35 Sir, while I have little knowledge as to what is carried by the trucks allegedly claimed for humanitarian purposes, it was of concern to me that it was shown a truck contained less than one pallet load of items in it. Ordinary such conduct may be taken as there being a hidden compartment or a falls wall where weapons, etc, may be hidden. 40 The danger also is that the Russian Federation by pushing through with its trucks in my view in violation of Ukraine sovereignty, it may rather push Ukrainians to amend its constitution in a referendum as to not only have it joining the EU (European Union) but in fact to allow it to have a NATO base in Ukraine. As such, escalating the dispute may just achieve that the Russian Federation would like the least to have eventuating. 45

We have called repeatedly on all parties to the conflict to stop the bloodshed immediately and begin negotiations. I believe that if military operations had not resumed in eastern Ukraine on June 28, this tragedy probably could have been avoided. 55

Rather than dividing us, tragedies of this sort should bring people together. All those who are responsible for the situation in the region must take greater responsibility before their own peoples and before the peoples of the countries whose citizens were killed in this disaster. Everything possible must be done to ensure that international experts can work in safety at the 5 crash site. Representatives from the Donbass region, Donetsk, Ukraines Emergency Situations Ministry, and Malaysian experts are already working at the site, but this is not enough. It is essential that a full-fledged group of experts under ICAO aegis, an appropriate international commission set up for the task, be able to work at the crash site. We must do everything possible to ensure their complete and guaranteed safety and provide them with the humanitarian corridors they 10 need for their work. For its part, Russia will do everything within its power to move the conflict in eastern Ukraine from the military phase we see today to the negotiating phase, with the parties using peaceful and diplomatic means alone. If some other country were to drive its trucks in to the Russian Federation without your consent I doubt you would accept that. You cannot apply DOUBLE STANDARDS that you demand your sovereign rights to deal with 20 Chechnya, Georgia and other places as being an internal matter yet do not apply the same when it concerns Ukraine.
I have in the past indicated that you are in my view playing a dangerous game that may very well be the beginning of the end of the Russian federation, as those who are not fighting against 25 Ukraine soon or later may be ousted and then start to do the same within the Russian federation, compliments of the training, weapons, etc, they reportedly had from the Russian Federation. As I alluded to previously it would be much better had you put your efforts in supporting the so called Russian backed separatist in litigation before the Ukraine constitutional court. If you had followed that suggestion then the so called civil war that is going on within Ukraine could have 30 there and then be stopped. Then no human misery may have continued and neither any humanitarian support.
I have also concern as to what appears to be a flood of disinformation from RT (Russian times) etc. there have been reports that MH17 really was MH370, but I have downloaded numerous 35 details that Identify parts of the plane and which Malaysian Airway can check being parts of MH17. I have also found numerous round holes as was claimed to exist (Russian times articles) and reproduced below a particular image showing rows of round holes. 40

Below picture is claimed to be showing how the Titanic was doomed due to weak rivets. And it appears to me that perhaps panels where rivets are used must be thicker to compensate for the loss of strength in the panel to avoid the shearing of panels. Also, that the rivet heads may be too 5 small, and allows by this easy break up of a plane when stresses are caused upon it. Once some rivets are pulled through the panel then the rest will let go also as the force then becomes too much for the next rivet, and so on. As such, as was deemed to have been with the Titanic that once one rivet let go then the next one did, and on and on it went. As such we seem to have seen the Titanic rivet problem to some degree similarly eventuating in MH17. 10 What this has established (in my view) is that when the panels are rolled the panels must be rolled thicker around the rivet area to compensate for the loss of strength in the area due to the holes being in it, and also the rivets must be of a stronger material and the heads larger to prevent the heads being pulled through the panels. Because I was trained as a Turner and fitter and was in maintenance of factories (before entering management) I had to deal with breakdowns and as 15 such the moment I became aware of the allegations of the bullet holes I realised we had a lot of fools out there going along what seemed to be nothing more but rivet holes. In my view Having alleged pilots and the Russian Times purporting the holes are 30 mm bullet holes is utter and sheer nonsense and also rather may be seen as deliberate disinformation issued by the Russian Federation. What we therefore have is that the Russian Federation for a short time 20 may have reflected blame upon the Ukrainian air force but once people become aware they were used like fools to accept rivet holes as being allegedly bullet holes then they will likely question why would the Russian Federation have supported this disinformation through the Russian times, etc, and now by this have placed itself (credibility, etc) into question You do not build a credibility with allowing/supporting disinformation. In my view the Russian 25 Federation would have done better to refute disinformation and have denounced it also. A so to say short term gain in the long run may now be more serious. The same where allegedly the leader of the Russian backed separatist claimed the bodies were drained of blood and long dead. This now is also disproven where already many bodies were identified of those who boarded MGH17 at Amsterdam. 30

Initial test revealed that the steel used for the hull passed the standards of that era. The investigating team narrowed their focus to the rivets 5 that were used to hold together the steel hull. Titanic needed 3,000,000 rivets to piece together the outer hull made of three centimeter-thick steel plates. Investigators found out that the rivets were not made of pure steel. The rivets were formed by means of melting metal slugs with steel, thereby, weakening the integrity of the rivets. 10 Had the rivets were not compromised, the hull could have withstand 14,000 pounds of impact. The naval engineers replicated the rivets used in the Titanic. After producing the replica of the rivets, the investigators tested them and they snapped just after applying 7,000 pounds of pressure. Not So Unsinkable Related Times Topics: Titanic From The Archives 5 Faulty Rivets Emerge as Clues To Titanic Disaster (January 27, 1998) Toppling Theories, Scientists Find 6 Slits, Not Big Gash, Sank Titanic (April 8, 1987) Thrilling Tale by Titanic's Surviving Wireless Man (April 28, 1912) (PDF) RSS Feed Get Science News From The New York Times 10 The builders own archives, two scientists say, harbor evidence of a deadly mix of low quality rivets and lofty ambition as the builder labored to construct the three biggest ships in the world at once the Titanic and two sisters, the Olympic and the Britannic. For a decade, the scientists have argued that the storied liner went down fast after hitting an iceberg because the ships builder used substandard rivets that popped their heads and let tons of icy seawater rush in. More 15 than 1,500 people died. When the safety of the rivets was first questioned 10 years ago, the builder ignored the accusation and said it did not have an archivist who could address the issue. Now, historians say new evidence uncovered in the archive of the builder, Harland and Wolff, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, settles the argument and finally solves the riddle of one of the most famous sinkings of all 20 time. The company says the findings are deeply flawed. Each of the great ships under construction required three million rivets that acted like glue to hold everything together. In a new book, the scientists say the shortages peaked during the Titanics construction. The board was in crisis mode, one of the authors, Jennifer Hooper McCarty, who studied the archives, said in an interview. It was constant stress. Every meeting it was, Theres problems with the rivets and we need 25 to hire more people. Apart from the archives, the team gleaned clues from 48 rivets recovered from the hulk of the Titanic, modern tests and computer simulations. They also compared metal from the Titanic with other metals from the same era, and looked at documentation about what engineers and shipbuilders of that era considered state of the art. 30 The scientists say the troubles began when its ambitious building plans forced Harland and Wolff to reach beyond its usual suppliers of rivet iron and include smaller forges, as disclosed in company and British government papers. Small forges tended to have less skill and experience. Adding to the problem, in buying iron for the Titanics rivets, the company ordered No. 3 bar, known as best not No. 4, known as best-best, the scientists found. Shipbuilders of the day typically used No. 4 35 iron for anchors, chains and rivets, they discovered. So the liner, whose name was meant to be synonymous with opulence, in at least one instance relied on cheaper materials. Many of the rivets studied by the scientists recovered from the Titanics resting place two miles down in the North Atlantic by divers over two decades were found to be riddled with high concentrations of slag. 40 A glassy residue of smelting, slag can make rivets brittle and prone to fracture. Some material the company bought was not rivet quality, said the other author of the book, Timothy Foecke of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, a federal agency in Gaithersburg, Md. The company also faced shortages of skilled riveters, the archives showed. Dr. McCarty said that for a half year, from late 1911 to April 1912, when the Titanic set sail, the companys board discussed the problem at 45 every meeting. For instance, on Oct. 28, 1911, Lord William Pirrie, the companys chairman, expressed concern over the lack of riveters and called for new hiring efforts.

The iron had to be heated to a precise cherry red color and beaten by the right combination of hammer blows. Mediocre work could hide problems. Hand riveting was tricky, said Dr. McCarty, whose doctoral thesis at Johns Hopkins University analyzed the Titanics rivets. 5 Steel beckoned as a solution. Shipbuilders of the day were moving from iron to steel rivets, which were stronger. And machines could install them, improving workmanship. The rival Cunard line, the scientists found, had switched to steel rivets years before, using them, for instance, throughout the Lusitania. The scientists discovered that Harland and Wolff also used steel rivets but only on the Titanics central 10 hull, where stresses were expected to be greatest. Iron rivets were chosen for the stern and bow. And the bow, as fate would have it, is where the iceberg struck. Studies of the wreck show that six seams opened up in the ships bow plates. And the damage, Dr. Foecke noted, ends close to where the rivets transition from iron to steel. The scientists argue that better rivets would have probably kept the Titanic afloat long enough for rescuers to 15 arrive before the icy plunge, saving hundreds of lives. The researchers make their case, and detail their archive findings, in What Really Sank the Titanic (Citadel Press). Reactions run from anger to admiration. James Alexander Carlisle, whose grandfather was a Titanic riveter, has bluntly denounced the rivet theory on his Web site. No way! Mr. Carlisle writes. 20 For its part, Harland and Wolff, after its long silence, now rejects the charge. There was nothing wrong with the materials, Joris Minne, a company spokesman, said last week. Mr. Minne noted that one of the sister ships, the Olympic, sailed without incident for 24 years, until retirement. (The Britannic sank in 1916 after hitting a mine.) David Livingstone, a former Harland and Wolff official, called the books main points misleading. Mr. 25 Livingstone said big shipyards often had to scramble. On a recent job, he noted, Harland and Wolff had to look to Romania to find welders. Mr. Livingstone also called the slag evidence painfully circumstantial, saying no real proof linked the hull opening to bad rivets. Its only waffle, he said of the teams arguments. But a naval historian praised the book as solving a mystery that has baffled investigators for nearly a century. 30 Its fascinating, said Tim Trower, who reviews books for the Titanic Historical Society, a private group in Indian Orchard, Mass. This puts in the final nail in the arguments and explains why the incident was so dramatically bad. The Titanic had every conceivable luxury: cafes, squash courts, a swimming pool, Turkish baths, a barbershop and three libraries. Its owners also bragged about its safety. In a brochure, the White Star Line 35 described the ship as designed to be unsinkable. On her inaugural voyage, on the night of April 14, 1912, the ship hit the iceberg around 11:40 p.m. and sank in a little more than two and a half hours. Most everyone assumed the iceberg had torn a huge gash in the starboard hull. The discovery in 1985 of the Titanic wreck began many new inquiries. In 1996, an expedition found, beneath 40 obscuring mud, not a large gash but six narrow slits where bow plates appeared to have parted. Naval experts suspected that rivets had popped along the seams, letting seawater rush in under high pressure. A specialist in metal fracture, Dr. Foecke got involved in 1997, analyzing two salvaged rivets. He was astonished to find about three times more slag than occurs in modern wrought iron. In early 1998, he and a team of marine forensic experts announced their rivet findings, calling them tentative. 45 Dr. Foecke, in addition to working at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, also taught and lectured part time at Johns Hopkins. There he met Dr. McCarty, who got hooked on the riddle, as did her thesis adviser. The team acquired rivets from salvors who pulled up hundreds of artifacts from the sunken liner. The scientists also collected old iron of the era including some from the Brooklyn Bridge to make 50 comparisons. The new work seemed only to bolster the bad-rivet theory. In 2003, after graduating from Johns Hopkins, Dr. McCarty traveled to England and located the Harland and Wolff archives at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland, in Belfast. She also explored the archives of the British Board of Trade, which regulated shipping and set material standards, and of Lloyds of London, which set shipbuilding standards. And she worked at Oxford University 55 and obtained access to its libraries. What emerged was a picture of a company stretched to the limit as it struggled to build the worlds three biggest ships simultaneously. Dr. McCarty also found evidence of complacency. For instance, the Board of Trade gave up testing iron for shipbuilding in 1901 because it saw iron metallurgy as a mature field, unlike the burgeoning world of steel. 60

Yesterday morning I watched with great interest a National Geographic Channel feature on the sinking of the Titanic. By using current-day technology, NATGEO followed naval investigators to uncover the reason behind the sinking of the ship that even God cannot sink. Titanic sunk because the hull was ruptured after it collided with an iceberg. 30 However, there were sectors who speculated that the Titanic was capable to survive a collision of such magnitude had certain technical and engineering specifications were followed. The theory: Titanic sunk because it used sub-standard materials. Experts were asked to give their expert opinion on this infamous sea accident. They ruled out pinning the fault to a single person or a group persons for the sinking of Titanic. The two ship 35 cadets who acted as lookouts on the night of shipwreck cannot be blamed either. They reasoned that the night

The question that I now raise is if there was a missile that did bring down MH17 then could this have been avoided, not just by avoiding the firing of the missile but if the structure of MH17 was more robust? What if the missile itself had caused damage but it (MH17) could have sustained 30 the damage if the planes structure (and so that of any other plane) was more robust? If the missile caused a weakness and the rivets by this couldnt carry the sudden stresses because the privets started to pop through the panels then could large rivet heads and more sturdier/stronger rivets have prevented this so to say Titanic rivet failure? With the titanic it was claimed that when one rivet went then so the next and the next and that 35 caused the sinking of the Titanic. Likewise the popping of rives with MH17 could have eventuated in similar manner. As shown above it is that entire panels came of their beams and one can see the numerous rivet holes and on one image one can see the rivets still sitting in the beam. 40 I had at times comments from people that I seem to waste a lot of time on the downing of MH17, but in my view it was time well spend because I am in my view actually exposing what might be a weakness in design of airplane panels.

Obviously, this weakness in both panels and rivers may have in the past contributes to airplanes 5 having broken up mid-air where the stresses were so to say popping the rivets and/or the panels were shearing at the line of the rivet holes and as such I view this is a major issue governing all airplanes and should be modified in any airplanes currently being build and those to be build. There were reports where part of planes in mid-air suddenly came off, and it was held that cracks were appearing over time. Again, this too may have been due to the weakness in the panels along 10 the line of the rivets and the weakness of the rivet heads themselves.
Now it seems to me that if you had gotten your technical engineers to address these kind of issues instead of violating the sovereignty of Ukraine and chosen to pursue litigation before the Ukraine constitutional court (as I outlined in past correspondence) instead of giving moral and 15 other support to the separatist, then you may have had a far better result. Ironically if your aim is to seek to avoid Ukraine to so to say lean to the West, you are actually making sure that Ukrainians may desire to amend its constitution to allow a NATO base in Ukraine as you proved to violate its sovereignty. It is not relevant if you do not view those while trucks were not so to say a Trojan Horse for weapons and other items to be smuggled into Ukraine to assist the 20 Russian backed separatist, as what is important is how others view it,. And if even a mere one weapon were to be detected in any of the trucks then so to say your credibility will be no more. And as you proved with the investigators and recovery teams you clearly were unable to have the separatist to leave in peace the area. So to say you are more and more in my view becoming your own worst nightmare/enemy! 25
The following image is another downloaded (as others in this correspondence where not otherwise indicated a web address (https://www.flickr.com/photos/jeroenakkermans) that is not clear if it was subject to a fire before hitting the ground, whereas the flowers around it seems to indicate there was no fire on the ground. Or it might just be dirt that somehow was ending up on 30 and around it?

The question then is; Were the waters checked for any human remains? Unlikely I think. Did you provide any cooperation to have this done? I doubt it.

They do crash testing with motor vehicles but seemingly not with planes as that might be too 5 expensive, but perhaps airplane manufacturers may just have to consider to try to do so, if they not already do so, to find out what might be the weakest area in the planes they build. It may also be interesting to check back on pieces of panels of other planes that were downed, if they showed like fractions in the rivet holes line and rivets popping out? 10

I would also suggest that when a planes electricity is cut off where there is a failure of sort (and for example the windmill under the plane is activated) then this automatically triggers 5 an alarm signals to control towers in the area. Even if the pilots then are for whatever reason unable to communicate at least nearby control towers will be made aware there could be a major disaster looming up and warn other planes in the area to be watching out. Even if the pilot(s) were to be able to regain control at least other planes in the area may be warned about any possible danger. If the plane were to have changed attitude in the process 10 without the pilots having been aware of this or unable to communicate this then at least nearby planes will have their warning to be on the lookout.
One has to wonder why there appears to be no usage of GPS build into the body, so that one doesnt have to solely rely on trying to find the so called BLACK BOXES (Flight recorders) but 15 the GPS signals sent out would still show a air control tower and searches where the body of the plane can be located. 1972 Andes flight disaster - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia QUOTE en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1972_Andes_flight_disaster 20

In my view having lost MH370 without any kind of automatic beacon setting of (apart of the BLACK BOXES) cannot be tolerated to continue. In plane crashes to locate the area where a plane crashed may be very critical to perhaps still being able to save the lives of any survivors who might be critically injured and so to say every second can make the difference of life or 30 death.
While so called military experts as well as current and former pilots claimed that the round holes were created by 30mm bullets fired from Ukraine Jets, to me it is utter and sheer nonsense to allege that bullets cause countersank holes. Hence, I set out to search for images that showed 35 actual parts of MH17, and while it took about 5 weeks to do so, at least I view my conclusions are more reliable as to the manner it was explained. Also, as to alleged shrapnel being from inside out, pieces of shrapnel could have reflected/ricochet against beams, and so caused damage from trying to get out through the plate from the inside. 40 QUOTE ----- Original Message ----- From: Bill (EMAIL ADDRESS DELETED) Date: Sun, Aug 3, 2014 at 10:35 PM Subject: MH17 Shot Down by a Military Aircraft? According to the report of German pilot and airlines expert Peter Haisenko, the MH17 Boeing 777 was not brought down by a missile. 10 What he observed from the available photos were perforations of the cockpit:
The facts speak clear and loud and are beyond the realm of speculation: The cockpit shows traces of shelling! You can see the entry and exit holes. The edge of a portion of the holes is bent inwards. These are the smaller holes, round and clean, 15 showing the entry points most likely that of a 30 millimeter caliber projectile. (Revelations of German Pilot: Shocking Analysis of the Shooting Down of Malaysian MH17. Aircraft Was Not Hit by a Missile Global Research, July 30, 2014)

Based on detailed analysis Peter Haisenko reached the conclusion that the MH17 was not downed by a missile attack: This aircraft was not hit by a missile in the central portion. The destruction is limited to the cockpit area. Now you have to factor in that this part is constructed of specially 25 reinforced material
The OSCE Mission
It is worth noting that the initial statements by OSCE observers (July 31) broadly 30 confirm the findings of Peter Haisenko:
Monitors from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe reported that shrapnel-like holes were found in two separate pieces of the fuselage of the ill-fated Malaysia Airlines aircraft that was believed to have been downed by a 35 missile in eastern Ukraine.
Michael Bociurkiw of the OSCE group of monitors at his daily briefing described part of the planes fuselage dotted with shrapnel-like, almost machine gun-like holes. He said the damage was inspected by Malaysian aviation-security officials .(Wall Street 40 Journal, July 31, 2014)
The monitoring OSCE team has not found evidence of a missile fired from the ground as conveyed by official White House statements. As we recall, the US ambassador to the UN Samantha Power stated pointing a finger at Russia that the Malaysian MH17 45

The team of international investigators with the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) are uncertain if the missile used was fired from 5 the ground as US military experts have previously suggested, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported. (Malay Mail online, emphasis added)
The initial OSCE findings tend to dispel the claim that a BUK missile system brought down the plane. 10 Evidently, inasmuch as the perforations are attributable to shelling, a shelling operation conducted from the ground could not have brought down an aircraft traveling above 30,000 feet. END QUOTE 15 As far as I have detected this utter and sheer nonsense has been going around and often quoted by many as gospel where allegedly the OSCE inspector (reportedly Michael Bociurkiw of the OSCE group of monitors) somehow became an expert on defining what is a bullet hole and what is not. If indeed the OSCE inspector made such a statement then I view this was highly irresponsible as clearly images I have reproduce indicates they are rivet holes. The same I view 20 the views allegedly expressed by German pilot and airlines expert Peter Haisenko! He is not only allegedly a pilot but also an alleged airlines expert. He might be an expert, perhaps in seeing flights taking off, but I doubt he actually understands that panels on a plane have hundreds of round holes because of the usage of rivets, screws, etc. I held it appropriate to seek to so to say debunk these so called experts, because one can do well 25 without unsupported ill-conceived allegations against the Ukraine military and perhaps sideline the conduct of the investigation into what really caused MH17 to crash.
