EXT. THE WOODS - LATE AFTERNOON
Woods with trees that claw up at the sky, forming a dense
canopy of autumn foliage. Leaves stained with brown decay
fall to the ground.
NEVA, a 23-year-old girl, barefoot, with long, white hair
lies unconscious amongst the fallen leaves upon the ground.
Her skin, pale like her hair, stolen from the translucence of
a moonstone, rests over part of her face.
She begins to open her eyes. Slowly, she sits up and looks
around, disoriented. She wipes at her head and then looks
down at her smeared hand. Blood.
She turns and looks around, realizes that something is
missing.
INTERTITLE:
Where are my sister?
Neva immediately scans the area and beings to frantically run
through the darkening forest, her heart beating faster and
faster as she calls out.
INTERTITLE:
Where are my sisters?
EXT. THE HOUSE - DUSK
As Neva races through the woods, she comes upon a dark house,
one as ancient as the trees surrounding it. As she walks
closer, her breath becomes visible. The night begins to fall
upon the forest. Slowly, she opens the door and enters,
enveloped by darkness.
INTERTITLE:
Sisters? Sisters? Where are my sisters? They are so young
and must feel so scared and alone.
INT. THE HOUSE - THE STAIRS - DUSK
Neva strikes a match and lights a gas lamp. Holding it up,
she notices stairs that lead only to darkness. Slowly, she
climbs them, the only light in the house emanating from her
lamp. She exhales, her breath hangs in the air for a moment
before fading away.
INT. THE HOUSE - UPSTAIRS HALLWAY - DUSK
Rooms lie on both sides of the walls in the cramped hallway.
Neva walks, each step, cautious, slow. She opens the door to
each room only to find nothing.
INTERTITLE:
Sisters? Where are you?
Neva sees a flash of light beneath the door of the last
closed room.
She walks toward the light and begins to slowly open the
door, the hungry darkness follows closely her.
She opens the door. The room breathes stale emptiness: no
furniture, no bed, no decor. Then Neva notices a girl
(AUTUMN) standing, looking out of the window, illuminated by
a long white candle in front of her.
The girl, facing out toward the wall, sways slightly back and
forth. Her long chestnut hair hangs down along her long,
white Victorian dress, the lace buttoned up to her throat.
Neva notices two other figures in the darkness, one with
auburn hair (SUMMER) at the wall to the right of the girl at
the window and the other with blonde hair (SPRING) adjacent
to her. The darkness conceals both of the girls, who stand
away from the light from the candle.
Both figures, dressed in the same gown as the girl at the
window, face directly into the walls, their faces only an
inch or two away. They sway back and forth.
Suddenly, the girls begin to move. Slowly. Fluidly. Their
feet remain motionless, however, as they glide to the
adjacent walls in a clockwise movement. Always facing into
the walls.
Autumn faces into the wall perpendicular to the window and
into the adjacent wall faces Summer. Next to her wall,
stands Spring.
The wall with the window lies empty.
Wide-eyed, Neva pauses for a BEAT before slowly approaching
Summer and reaching out to tap her shoulder.
INTERTITLE:
Excuse me, I am lost and cannot find my sisters. They are
so young and must feel so scared and alone.
2.
Summer does not respond. Her auburn hair hangs, hiding her
face. She continues to rock back and forth, unresponsive to
Nevas request.
Frustrated, Neva turns away and walks across the room, to
AUTUMN. She taps her upon the shoulder.
INTERTITLE:
I am in need of help. I have lost my sisters. They are so
young and must feel so scared and alone. Have you seen
them?
The girl ignores Nevas pleas and continues to sway.
Enraged, Neva slightly pushes the girl. She continues to
sway back and forth.
Neva then grabs the girl by the shoulders and whips her
around, only to discover that her face is smooth,
featureless. Eyes, nose, and mouth-less.
The girl begins to slowly walk toward Neva, each step held,
slow, heavy. Her body fidgets, each motion frozen in time.
Frightened, Neva dashes towards the door. Before she reaches
it, it slams shut. She desperately turns the handle, only to
find that it is locked.
She turns around and watches in horror as the other two girls
leave their walls to join the third and walk towards her.
Closer. Closer. Until they surround Neva, trapping her at
the door.
The candle goes out.
Black.
EXT. THE HOUSE - MORNING
The sky frosts the woods with white. Snow gathers along the
rooftop of the house, as the wind blows the snow back and
forth.
INT. THE HOUSE - THE ROOM - DAY
Below the window, the candle is still lit, not a drop of wax
having melted from its top.
Spring, Summer, and Autumn face into the walls without the
window. Swaying.
3.
A fourth faceless girl stands looking out the window,
swaying, dressed in the same Victorian gown, lace buttoned up
to her throat.
A white snowflake drifts through the window. Into the girls
white hair.
