A quick review of good Medical Apps for iPhone

So in the past few months of intern year I have had a lot of people both medical students and
fellow interns ask me about many of the Apps that I have downloaded onto my phone. Due to
this, I have decided to compose a quick list and brief synopsis of what each of the apps consists
of:

AHRQ ePSS- Absolute must have for any primary care physician. This app allows you to input
you pt age and basic risk factors to stratify what basic screening is necessary. It also list the
screening based upon their recommendation level. App is Free

Medscape- Great go to app for those diagnosis in which you need to review some basic
information about. Not terribly detailed but allows for great overview.

Epocrates- If you have not heard about this app then you must be living under a rock. This is an
excellent drug app and free. Good ease of use.

Epocrates Bugs and Drugs- This app can be found within the epocrates app itself. This
program brings all of the local registered blood cultures, urine culture etc and tells you a basic
epidemiology for your area and recorded resistance statistics.

Uptodate- This of course requires a subscription, however for all of those you whom are
residents here we have a subscription through our library. Absolute must have for residents.

MedCalc- Everyone needs some sort of medical calculator. After much research this is the best
one that I have found. Oh and no need to upgrade to pro it just allows you to store stuff for
individual patients.

NIHSS 10 sec stroke scale- excellent app that both allows you to assess a patient likelihood of
stroke as well as gives you some basic inclusion criteria for tPA.

PregWheel- many different apps available for this haven't really found one that I personally
prefer over others this is just one that I use.

ASCVD risk estimator- Great app put out by both the AHA and the American College of
Cardiology.

Shots 2014- If you have anything to do with pediatrics then this is another must have app. This
gives you all the scheduled shots that are current and up to date this year as well as helps you
determine how to get a kid caught up on missed shots.

MediBabble- Great language translator for medical speech into spanish. Technically you should
always use a translator however this can take forever at times. This can help you get some
basic information from the patient when language is an issue.

AAFP- Absolute must have for any Family medicine resident. Not only do you get access to
tons of questions to hone your skills it also gives you current events with the organization and
much more.

PAR CRR- If you are interested in Sports medicine this is a helpful app that can assist you in
diagnosis of concussion.

CPR game- Planning on running a code but you always get cold and clammy with just the
thought of trying to do so? This app can help alleviate that anxiety. It does cost like 10 bucks or
so but well worth the price. Great to do in those spare few moments during night oat to
continue to build you comfort with ACLS skills.

Radiology 2.0- An absolute gold mine for those of you whom are like me and have difculty
reading any type of scan. Not only does this app give images that are exactly like what you will
see but also it gives a basic case synopsis and discussion afterwards as well as points out key
ndings to help you things learn.

ABFM Exam Prep- Free questions to help review for both board exam as well as those yearly
ITE. This is put out by the American Board of Family Medicine so you know its legit.

USMLE world QBank- You should be familiar with this from med school again really no better
way to study for STEP exams then doing questions.

MyATLS- From everything I hear ATLS is NO joke. It requires a good amount of hours studying
and now the book even comes with its own app. If you are planning on taking ATLS soon then
this app is very helpful in that it gives you some video illustrations of skills that book cannot.

Surgery Board Reviews- This is another adjunct to help those studying for ATLS. This app
allows you to buy questions for Advanced Trauma Life Support for 10 dollars and get access to
over 500 questions.

I hope this is helpful to all this is a very brief list of the apps that I have found helpful thus far as
an intern. Please let me know if you have any to add.
