DEALER & CHANDLER

TIME TO
EXPORT
With the news from Australia
that Boatarama Gold Coast,
one of the leading
Australian Boat Dealers had
gone into administration,
alarm bells should be ringing
big time down under.

News
Fittipaldi Yachts

Like the recent American

market, Australian Boat
Builders have for many years
relied solely upon their home
market to their sell boats to.
Recently however, with the
Australian Dollar being strong
and the American Dollar at
an all time competitive low,
many American brands (and
indeed European Brands)
have been rapidly expanding
their own businesses, by
exporting their boats to the
Australian market.
Couple that with the news
that Australian boating
industry has had a difficult
six months, with high fuel
prices, rising interest rates,
and an Australian Taxation
Office ruling earlier this year
that has affected the level of
tax deductability of cruiser
clubs, and the situation looks
difficult at best for those
manufacturers whose sole
market is the Australian one.
The good news however,
is that some Australian
companies are successfully
exporting their boats
overseas. Riviera Yachts
based in Coomera,
Queensland recently
completed their 4,000th
yacht, many of which have
found homes in international
markets.

FITTIPALDI YACHTS
Wilson Fittipaldi Jr, has joined
forces with US yacht designer Luiz
de Basto to create a new range of
luxury motoryachts. To be sold
under the banner Fittipaldi Yachts,
the company is based at the port
city of Angra dos Reis, Brazil, and
has a capacity for yachts of up to
60m (200ft) in length.
Currently under construction are
two 34m (110ft) aluminium yachts,
both of which have already been
sold and are due for launch next
year.

NEW FAIRLINE DEALER IN

SPAIN
Fairline Boats recently announced
that Yatesport SA, a boat sales and
service dealer in northern Spain,
will represent them in that region.
Trading under the banner of
Fairline Galicia, the company will
provide Fairline clients with full
sales and after sales facilities from
three locations across the region,
with their headquarters based at
Punto Lagoa Marina in Vigo, a
brand new 400-berth marina with
showroom and on-site facilities.
www.fairline.com

GRADY WHITE
North Carolina-based Grady-White
Boats recently recruited three
international sales consultants to
expand their international
presence in several non-US
markets, namely Europe, Asia
Pacific and South America.

Grady White build high quality

sports fishing boats from 18 to
their top-of-the-line 36 Express
Cruiser. Boat dealers worldwide
are expected to seriously consider
looking at this high quality brand.
www.gradywhite.com

Grady White 36 Express Cruiser

The Australian situation is not

unique in the industry
however. With the number of
boat builders still expanding
rapidly worldwide, especially
in China and South America,
never has it been more
important for a boat builder
to export their boats on a
global scale. If they dont,
they may simply not survive.

The Astus 20.1 and the recently

hoping that they will quickly
become as popular in the UK.
The Astus 20.1's floats are

design the boat can be launched

appointed joint administrators.
The Global Challenge Round The

of a professional skipper and an
amateur paying crew, on 72
yachts, in a race where the yachts
sailed the wrong way round the
world.
Previous headline sponsors of the

and BT, the global telecoms group.
However with the race taking part
only every four years, and with no

The administrators are now likely

refreshing to have the opportunity

Esse 850

ESSE 850
After many years experience
in dealing with sailing boats,
particularly sports/racers of 8 to
10 metres overall length,
Schuchter of Switzerland felt for
two years that there was a need in
the market for a boat that above
all is easy to handle. That means
not only a boat that is easy to
trailer but above all is simple to
handle in its element - on the
water. Here simple handling means
not only the ability to be sailed
single-handed, but also with the
advantage of regatta sailing
without the need to recruit a large
crew, yet nevertheless, still be
faster than most boats of a similar
size. All this whenever possible
without the need for trapezes or
outriggers. After refining their
ideas over the past two years
Schuchter consulted the respected
and innovative designer Umberto
Felci, who together with the
Proteus boatyard in Cavaion was
able in a short time to turn them
into reality. The result is the

SLY YACHTS
Ever since the futuristic super
yacht builder Wally Yachts began
building sailing yachts with clean
decks, large cockpits and low
coachroofs, builders of smaller
sailing yachts worldwide have
started producing similarly styled
craft.
The Sly 47 (below) is the
mid-range model of the Italian
builder Sly Yachts, who build
stylish performance cruisers from
42 to 53 length overall.
The Sly 47 is a dynamic fast
cruising yacht, easy to manoeuvre
as either a sailboat or motorboat,
comfortable and highly liveable as
a cruiser, given its excellent
interior spacing and extensive
areas free from encumbrance on
deck. It sails at fast, easy cruise
speeds in the medium-long range
and offers interesting and
satisfying results in IRC and
Open regattas. Based in Cesena,
Italy, this beautiful boat with her
good looks, high performance yet
stylish and comfortable interior,
looks set to become popular
worldwide.

SKAGEN MOTORYACHTS
The concept of the new Skagen 50
(below) was studied carefully
before this new yacht was built.
Skagen found that the new
generation of experienced
powerboaters and mature sailors
are looking for a more comfortable
and satisfying way of serious
cruising. In this part of the boating
world, where the sailing and
powerboating cultures meet, the
yacht has to offer:
1. A strong, reliable and seaworthy
(=offshore) hull that can be
handled by an owner/wife crew
2. Generous and comfortable
accommodation for a longer stay
aboard for the couple plus
occasional guests & friends.
3. Long range and self-sufficient
capacities for longer cruises in
sailing areas with non-developed
infrastructure.
4. Traditional values throughout:
looks, styling, quality woodwork
and construction. A proud and
beautiful boat that the years will
keep untouched, keeping the
owners investment value secure.
5. Capable of sailing on Europe's
inner waterways and canals.
6. Exceptional value and quality.

UFO BOAT
Every now and then, along comes
a boat which stands out from the
crowd, and gets the pulse racing.
Designed by Xavier Pillet the UFO
boat is one such craft.
Due to his passion for nautical
sports in general, he came up with
the idea of creating this innovative
hull by associating parameters
used from his own experience as a
windsurfer designer, to improve

the gliding and passage of the boat

through the waves. The result is
very convincing and the boat is
truly spectacular.
Key to the construction of the
boat, UFO Boat used the
experience of their group partner
Cobra Group in Thailand to
develop a carbon fibre hull using
the most modern facilities
available. The weight saving this
allowed, combined with the
modern hull design, have made
the UFO Boat very fast
(50+ knots), seaworthy, and truly
multifunctional, whether used as a
yacht tender, or cruiser.

Eagle 40
When a boat is designed to handle the rigours of the
Pacific North West, it had better be built well,
or it simply wont survive!
The fact that Transpacific Marine
has been successfully building
their Eagle 40 trawler yacht for
nearly a decade now, speaks
volumes for this traditional rough
water cruiser.
Now manufactured in mainland
China, what is surprising is that
this great range of boats,

sistership), is not represented in
several markets, including Europe.
Whilst this style of boat, like any
other boat type, faces fierce
competition from the likes of
Grand Banks, Island Gypsy,
Carver and Ocean Alexander, the
competitive pricing that this boat
commands as well as the
experience of building it, and
constantly improving it for the past
ten years, should make it
unbelievably attractive to boat
dealers worldwide.
Traditionally, all trawler-type boats
share genes with work boats.

On the Eagle 40, they are less

The bow of the Eagle 40 has only a
mild flare, but it has seven feet of

the hull.

Siamese Cat
Celebrity 72SC
Large ocean-going catamarans
have become all the rage in recent
years. Offering a level, stable ride,
fast transit times, and acres of
space and accommodation, their
shallow draft also allow access to
coves and beaches where other
luxury yachts dare not sail.

Boasting stunning accommodation,

with four double sized guest

Further forward in one of the hull

has sleeping accommodation for
11 persons, and that doesnt even
include the main saloon!

Such is the technological

development however in
everything from sail handling to
global positioning and emergency
warning equipment, the likelihood

be, hence the reason these

BOAT DEALER & CHANDLER MAGAZINE

Mankind has been building boats for thousands of

years, but from the very beginning, seafarers have
worried about the hulls beneath them. It is easy for
us to romanticise about traditional boatbuilding
techniques, but the harsh reality is that timber ships
were very prone to rot, worm attack and nail
sickness, and needed almost constant maintenance to
keep them afloat. Similarly, iron, steel and light alloys
corrode, whilst anyone with a Ferro Cement boat will
know that problems abound! In short, the perfect
boatbuilding material has yet to be found.
Glassfibre was first used for boatbuilding in the late
1950s, and for the first ten years or so was thought
to have an almost indefinite lifespan. And as if claims
of eternal life were not enough, it was even suggested
that fouling would never adhere to the shiny gelcoat,
and that painting would be a thing of the past!
In fairness, the advent of glass fibre was a huge step
forward for the small craft industry, and has brought
the pains and joys of boat ownership to millions of
people who would never have been able to afford or
maintain traditionally built craft. Inevitably though, it
was only a matter of time before the weaknesses of
glass fibre began to manifest themselves, and by the
late 1960s, boat owners began to notice strange
swellings beneath the waterline, many of which

Q4 I 42

OSMOSIS

contained greasy feeling fluid with a strong vinegary

odour. Since this time, our understanding of osmosis
has been constantly evolving, whilst treatment
routines have become ever more effective.
So what is Osmosis?
Osmosis is typically defined as the equalisation of
solution strengths by the passage of a solvent
(usually water) through a semi permeable
membrane. However, in the context of glass fibre
boats, osmosis is better thought of as a natural
ageing process, in which water-soluble materials
within the hull laminate are slowly liberated by
moisture to migrate towards the source of the
incoming water. With time, these solutes tend to
congregate together to form foci just behind the
gelcoat layer, where they create Osmotic Cells.
It is the osmotic pressure created by this process,
which can reach up to about 60 psi (or 4 atm), which
causes the all too familiar gelcoat blisters to form.
The solutes themselves are many and varied, but the
main bogeys are high molecular weight alcohols such
as propylene and ethylene glycols. Chemically similar
to antifreeze and hydraulic brake fluids, these
alcohols are strongly hygroscopic in nature, and are

www.boatdealerandchandler.com

OSMOSIS

BOAT DEALER & CHANDLER MAGAZINE

useful for scavenging unwanted moisture from

batches of resin during manufacture; but are not
always completely removed afterwards (as they
should be). All the same, the osmotic process usually
progresses very slowly, and it may be thirty years or
more before the first blisters are seen.
Indeed, one of the biggest misconceptions is that
osmosis only starts when the gelcoat begins to blister,
while in reality, blistering is little more than a
symptom of laminate problems that may have been
quietly developing for ten years or more.
Preventing Osmosis.
The risks of osmosis can be greatly reduced at the
lay-up stage by using good quality boatbuilding resins
(from which all glycol has been removed); by
ensuring that the protective gelcoat layer is of the
correct thickness; and by making sure that all resins
are well cured. Control of temperature and humidity,
and thorough investment of the glass reinforcement
with the lay-up resin are also important.
Unfortunately, the boat buyer has little control over
these processes, and even highly respected marques
can suffer from occasional failures; so some form of
secondary protection is well advised. In this regard,
an epoxy treatment such as Blakes SFE200 or
International Gelshield 200 will greatly reduce the risk
of osmosis by slowing moisture ingress to almost
insignificant levels. However, for maximum benefit,
these treatments must be applied at newbuild, or
certainly within the first few years after launching
whilst the laminate is still dry. Indeed, once moisture
levels begin to rise, application of an epoxy treatment
will actually increase the risk of blistering.
The advice here applies mainly to new boats, but
boats of all ages will benefit from wintering ashore, as
osmosis will only progress whilst the hull is exposed
to water.
Osmosis Treatment
The osmotic processes described here could not take
place without water, so early treatments concentrated
on drying the hull, in the mistaken belief that this
procedure alone would cure the problem.
The lengthy application of infra red heaters and
dehumidifiers inside a polythene tent was
commonplace for many years, but apart from
accelerating global warming, this procedure only
served to reduce moisture meter readings, thereby
masking the real problem. With time it became
increasingly clear that removal of the hygroscopic
solutes themselves (rather than the moisture they
absorb) was the key to successful osmosis treatment,
so new techniques were required to achieve this.
Unfortunately, the hygroscopic solutes concerned
have boiling points of around 200C, and are
non-volatile at temperatures below about 90C; so
removal is not straightforward. Nevertheless, these
solutes are water-soluble, so the writers solution to
this problem was to repeatedly pressure wash the
exposed laminate with hot fresh water, with the aim of
dissolving and removing them. This procedure was
highly successful in many cases, and is still in
widespread use today; but is reliant upon complete
removal of the gelcoat and sufficient laminate
beforehand. Furthermore, the washing process itself
can take two or three weeks, after which time the
laminate must be allowed to dry naturally to verify
that all glycol has been removed.
The HotVac System
Following one of my lectures on this subject at the
University of Plymouth, east coast Surveyor and
Marine Engineer Terry Davey set about developing an
engineering solution to the problem. Terrys idea was

Up to four heater blankets can be used simultaneously.

to use special silicone blankets to apply a combination

of heat and high vacuum to the prepared laminate, so
that the unwanted solutes could be boiled off at
temperatures that were not injurious to the hull.
These HotVac blankets (as they are now known) are
applied in sequence around the hull until the entire
underwater area has been treated. Whilst beautifully
simple and entirely logical in concept, the mechanics
of this system took several years to develop, but the
HotVac system now provides rapid and reliable
treatment for the vast majority of glass fibre boats.
Once the hull has been cleaned of hygroscopic
solutes, moisture readings will fall naturally. The hull
can then be protected against further moisture
ingress with one of the many excellent solvent free
epoxy-coating schemes. Polyester gelcoats, however,
are not suitable for this application, as they do not
cure well when exposed to the atmosphere, and in
any case, are more permeable to moisture than most
epoxies.
Osmosis treatments have improved greatly over the
past few years, but there are still a few practical
things that boat owners can do to help.
Firstly, wintering ashore will help to slow the rate at
which osmosis develops, and could double the time
before the first blisters appear. But if is too late for
your boat, it is usually best to wait until blisters are
well-developed before contemplating treatment, as it
will be easier to remove solutes from a boat in this
condition. Likewise, any treatment is best carried out
immediately after the end of a sailing season when
the solutes are most dilute, and hence easier to
remove.

following webpage:

DRY ROT

The official term for the condition commonly known as Dry Rot
is "Organic Deterioration" and is only ever found on wood. The
condition develops from the growth of fungi or other microbes
that digest the wood cellulose causing the wood to disintegrate.
Although it is called dry rot, at
least 40% humidity is required for
the fungus that causes dry rot to
thrive. Spread by the wind
carrying spores from an infected
structure or from a rotting pile of
lumber in the near vicinity, it may
also be brought in with an infected
piece of wood. A "musty" odour is
tell-tale sign of its
presence. Occurring most often in
closed, poorly ventilated areas, on
inspecting a boat specific attention
should be given to wooden joists,
studs, beams and sills, or
anywhere water can lay.
Infected areas lose their
soundness and resilience, which
may be detected by cracked or
chipped paint, by hammering or
tapping, or by exploring with a
sharp pick or knife blade.

Dry Rot before (top) and after (bottom) treatment

Removal and replacement of the

effected area is one solution for
dry rot, but the most effective cure
is to inject the infected wood with
a penetrating epoxy specifically
manufactured for arresting the
growth of the fungi.

Q4 I 46

www.boatdealerandchandler.com

DRY ROT

BOAT DEALER & CHANDLER MAGAZINE

The original and patented cure for dry rot is

"GIT"-ROT, developed for application to a dry rotted
area without the need for removing any infected
wood.
To identify the infected areas:
1. Tap questionable areas with a hard instrument and
listen for hollow sounding dead spots.
2. Probe suspected areas with an ice pick or sharp
knife particularly check areas where water or
dampness is likely to accumulate.
3. Specifically inspect the joists, studs, beams,
baseboards and sills.
4. If found, DO NOT REMOVE THE ROT. Rot serves as
a wick to hold the epoxy.
Remember how paint soaks into end grain? This is
capillary action - the principle on which "GIT"-ROT
works. Therefore, the most effective way to apply
"GIT"-ROT is into the wood end grain. Lengths of
planking that need treatment should have a series of
holes drilled along the length of the infected area
starting at one end and working progressively along
in order to avoid trapping air in the middle of the rot.
In effect, the application of "GIT-ROT is like a
transfusion. A considerable amount of patience is
required during the actual penetration until complete
saturation is achieved. This is indicated when the
reservoir holes fill and remain filled, showing that the
dry rotted area has been fully saturated.
The mechanics of the actual treatment will vary for
each case, depending upon the location of the rot and
the construction of the boat. Where rot is deep, it is
advisable to drill a staggered series of holes
approximately 1/8" to 1/4" in diameter slanting
downwards. This exposes the rotted grain and
provides reservoirs for penetration of the epoxy.
For surface conditions such as sills, it is recommended
that the wood be probed parallel to the grain
repeatedly with a knife to provide access channels for
the "GIT"-ROT. The object is to actually shred the
fiber as much as possible without destroying the
original contour. In completely rotted areas, it is
advisable to remove films of paint or varnish for a
more thorough penetration.
In areas where sections of rot contain extensive holes
and the fibers are actually missing, it is possible to
mix dry sawdust in a 50/50 ratio with "GIT"-ROT and
use it as a fill material. When cured, it may be
sanded, drilled, painted, and tapped, to make it
indistinguishable from the surrounding areas.
"GIT"-ROT will eventually cure in damp wood.
However, it will not displace water, so wet wood
cannot be fully saturated with the epoxy. Any dilution
of the amount of "GIT"-ROT by the presence of water
in the wood simply reduces its ultimate strength, so
the area should be dried as much as possible before
treatment begins. Soaking with acetone will assist the
drying process, but great care must be taken to keep
flames or sparks away from the working area.
Acetone is a dangerous hazard!
Complete saturation and ultimate strength in treating
dry rot will require a volume of "GIT"-ROT
approximately equal to half the volume of the rotted
wood, depending on the severity of the rot.
Remember, "GIT"-ROT is the original patented
prescription for dry rot and has been used for
decades to restore rotted wood to its original
strength.

INTERNATIONAL GELSHIELD
Have you ever noticed that some
old GRP hulls have a blistered
surface below the waterline?
This is probably the effect of
water-absorption into the GRP.
Its effects can be damaging not
only to your hull but also to your
finances. In the worst cases it can
mean expensive repair bills, but at
the very least it can reduce the
financial value of the boat and
make the hull less efficient due to
added weight.
Gelshield 200 from International
Paint is designed to stop the
blisters starting in the first place
by forming a barrier between the
GRP and the water. The tough,
damage-resistant epoxy formula
contains Microplates which form
a microscopic structure much like
overlapping roof tiles, which make
it extremely difficult for water to
penetrate. Its also quick and
easy to apply even in winter since
it is designed to be used at
temperatures as low as 50oC.

be custom up-graded with a Tab
locator (see opposite). This makes
it easy to see how much the tabs
are deployed. Strangely enough,
this is especially useful for when
the boat is travelling at lower
speeds, or when barely planing.
A boat with a flat stern and stern
drives will always swing left to
right and back again and will
continue to do so when driving at
idle or maybe even up to
6-7 knots. When one of the
trimtabs is pushed down, the
water "swirl" will be pushed to one
side of the boat, preventing it from

swinging back and forth again, and

stopping the boat from swinging
from side to side.
Gecea not only sell tabs, but also a
revolutionary Hatch Lift ideal for
tender garages among other uses.
A number of major boatbuilders
have been installing the Hatch Lift
successfully for a number of years
now.

NEW FLARES FROM

PAINS WESSEX.
Pains Wessex is launching a new compact range of
pyrotechnics to complement the existing Mark 7
range, designed for commercial and leisure marine
use. The new Mark 8 range represents the first
products to combine the design, expertise and new

Jayson Kenny and Ewan Clark,
have been involved with the
product since its launch in 1990
and are just as passionate about it
today.

Developed in the 1980s,

COPPERCOAT is the combination
of specially formulated
solvent-free epoxy resin and high
purity copper powder and is the
most long lasting anti-foul
available. Indeed, a once-only
treatment of COPPERCOAT has a
proven lifespan of over 10 years.
Over 25,000 vessels world-wide
now benefit from COPPERCOAT
and no longer require the
traditional annual haul-out and
re-paint. Although one treatment
of COPPERCOAT has an initial
higher cost than traditional
anti-fouls, over the duration of 10
years its commonly 75% cheaper.

COPPERCOAT is non-leaching and

repels growth with natural copper
rather than toxic biocides found in
conventional anti-fouls and is
consequently kinder to the
environment. Suitable for both
power and sail craft, COPPERCOAT
has been applied to all manner of
vessels, from 200ft super yachts
to 12ft sailing dinghies.
COPPERCOAT is approved by the
Health and Safety Executive and
fully complies with current

FORGEN VERTICAL AXIS

WIND DRIVEN GENERATOR
This wind generator embodies long established high
efficiency generator principles, combined with turbine
airflow expertise. Low inertia of the carefully balanced
all-aluminium rotor assembly enables maximum
advantage to be taken of the average weather
conditions.
The turbine drive of the permanent magnet generator
is widely acknowledged to be the most efficient
design. When mounted vertically, it takes advantage
of wind from any direction.
All electrical components are encapsulated and the
unit is virtually maintenance free: there are no slip
rings to cause interference against electrical
equipment; the outlet supply cable to the battery
cannot become entangled; there are no separate
blades and the unit is vibration free and silent in
operation. The Forgen 500 is designed as a trickle
charger and may be permanently connected to the
battery.
The Forgen 1000 gives a much higher charge and has
been designed for larger multiple battery installations
usually associated with boats over 35ft. in length or
for wall mounting such as the end of a building.
The use of a Forgen ensures easy start up after
overnight or week long mooring of sailing craft.
Both machines can produce in an average 15 knot
wind speed, either 12 or 23 amp in a 24 hour period
(depending on battery condition). In extreme wind
conditions, the turbine is self-regulating.

SPW VARIPROP
SPW are one of the world leaders in the manufacture
of feathering and folding propellers, particularly
popular with sailing boats in the pleasure boat
industry. The Variprop is a four bladed feathering
propeller, which when the engine is turned off, automatically rotates the blades into the feathered position, with the result that drag is almost eliminated,
increasing boat speed by 15% - 20% in most cases,
depending on wind conditions. The other advantage of
the Variprop is that when shifting into reverse, less
than one shaft rotation turns the leading edge of the
blades 180 degrees, thus improving stopping power
and reverse thrust efficiency.

J-PROP
The Italian Company Marine Propeller SRL was
established eighteen years ago in September 1988
and swiftly became established in the national and
international marine market as the manufacturer of
the J-Prop range of propellers.
The J-Prop propeller is the result of extensive
research and development, and over the past
eighteen years, has been improved to be ranked
among the best propeller products in the world.
Numerous international patents are now registered in
its name. Designed to provide the ideal propeller for
cruising sailing yachts, the advantages of the J-Prop
are already well known to sailing enthusiasts who
have been confidently using them for many years.
From the start, the J-Prop was conceived as a
propeller which would be easy to install and use, but
which would set new benchmarks in strength and
efficiency. Importantly, J-Prop can now be installed
on just about every type of propeller shaft and sail
drive system.
A key feature of the J-Prop is its ability to control
and dampen the effects of sharp acceleration and
manoeuvers, utilising a unique and patented type of
shock absorber (SDB). This in turn reduces the
stresses and loads placed on the yachts transmission
system. J-Props SDB system is compatible with most
engine types including Yanmar engines regularly
found on board sailing yachts.
Recently J-Prop launched a new 4-bladed propeller
designed for sailing yachts in the 25-30m range,
which offers outstanding performance from this high
quality product.

The Ultimate Propeller For Recreational Boating

The Piranha Advantage

Piranha Propellers has been producing the ultimate

marine necessity for over 18 years. The extensive
product line covers sterndrives and outboards ranging
from 9.9 to 280HP. Also offered is the Volvo Duoprop
for DPS and XDP drives.
The performance of the Piranha Propeller makes it a
perfectly acceptable choice for a primary prop. This
non-corroding composite material is roughly half the
weight of aluminum and 1/6 the weight of stainless
steel, resulting in a prop that is much gentler on the
engine and drive. Its modular design makes repairs
and pitch changes simple tasks, while remaining an
affordable alternative to metal props.

Performance

Boaters have long relied on the standard of aluminum

and stainless steel propellers, only to be astonished
by the performance of the composites. Continued
tests and reviews have shown Piranha Propellers
ability to compete with the stainless, and most often
exceed the performance of the aluminum.

Durability

Piranha Propellers composite molding facility utilizes

a fiberglass/nylon composite, boasting a tensile
strength that is 15% stronger than aluminum.
Combining this composite with the aluminum core
makes the center hubs virtually indestructible. Our
belief in the durability of our product allows us to offer
a lifetime center hub warranty. Therefore, in the
unlikely event you damage the hub, simply return it
to the factory or Authorized Piranha Dealer for a
replacement.

Protection

During impact, composite materials absorb more

energy than metal. Tap a metal prop with a wrench
and it rings. Repeat this with a composite prop and it
produces only a dull thud. Vibrational energy is
internally absorbed by the composite material. This is
a superior trait when your prop strikes something
more than an open-end wrench. The ability of the
Piranha prop to absorb the impact energy of a prop
strike will virtually eliminate drivetrain damage.

Versatility

Piranhas patented modular design gives boaters

numerous advantages over traditional props. One
benefit of a modular system is the ability to carry only
spare blades versus a bulky, metal propeller. Spare
blades provide the convenience of re-pitching your
propeller for alternating performance needs.
Additionally, carrying spare blades gives a boater the
power to repair blade damage right on the water!

Affordable

Costly prop repairs and replacements have plagued

boat owners for generations. Piranha alleviates this
financial burden with replacement blades that save
consumers 70% over standard repair costs.

Customer Satisfaction

The Piranha team prides itself on exemplary customer

service, beginning with www.piranha.com. Piranhas
informative website includes a propeller sizing tool
and technical information, all backed by well educated
Piranha representatives.
Propeller kits are another example of Piranhas
commitment to satisfying their customers. Every kit
includes a minimum of 1 hub assembly, 2 complete
sets of blades, a universal floating propwrench, and
the Piranha gearbag all at additional savings over the
purchase of a single propeller. The kit gives the
customer the added advantage of testing two different
blades, to determine their individual preference.
Piranha then further assists the customer by allowing
blade exchanges as necessary.
Piranhas confidence, based on a proven track record,
gives them the ability to back the product with a
30-day money back guarantee. A propeller with this
much to offer is truly the last prop you will ever need.

Salon Nautique International de Paris

Paris Expo - Porte de Versailles
Halls 1, 2, 3, 5 & 6
Dates: 1 11 December 2006

A New Wind is Blowing at the Salon

Nautique International de Paris
For its 46th show, the Salon Nautique International
de Paris is heading toward new horizons.
A larger exhibition area: with 112,000 m and 2
new halls Hall 5 and Hall 6 of the Paris Expo-Porte
de Versailles exhibition centre the Salon Nautique
de Paris has increased its exhibition space by 5%.
An enhanced offer: the added space will make it
possible to enrich the show and welcome new
exhibitors, leaders in the sectors of motor boating,
fishing and diving.
A better division into sectors: the opening of new
halls enables the show organisers to simplify the
layout considerably and give visitors a clearer picture
of the goods and services on offer.
The Salon Nautique de Paris is now divided into three
main sections:
Hall 1: Sailing & Tourism, sport and recreation in, on,
and over the water!
Hall 2, 3, 5 & 6: Motor Boating, from performance to
luxury.
Hall 2: Equipment, everything essential to the pleasure of boating.
A new visual identity: all these changes are
logically accompanied by a new visual identity
through the creation of a new logo and two new
posters that mark a break with previous designs;
one on the theme of motor boating; suggesting
speed, pleasure and technology; the other on the
theme of sailing in a variety of forms based around
travel, sport, escape, and technology.
