Glasgow Met knows the importance of keeping in touch with its soon-to-be students. It
can often seem like a long time from accepting your course place to actually starting.
This newsletter should give you a flavour of what’s been happening recently at the Met,
including study trips, fundraisers and numerous student competition wins.

End of Year Exhibitions

The college is currently busy with many students completing final pieces to showcase at the annual End of
Year Exhibition. An invite has been enclosed for you to attend with more information on our website. This is a
great chance to view current student’s work and get a flavour of what you can expect from your course.

Charity Fundraisers

Construction Craft, Joinery, Building Trade and Catering students recently got together for a charity football
tournament, raising £200 for Yorkhill Children’s Foundation. Meanwhile, 60 Travel & Tourism students took
part in a Sponsored Airline Safety Demonstration to raise money for Cash for Kids.

Students enjoy numerous course linked visits throughout the year allowing the work learned in college to be
given a practical perspective. Intermediate 2 Travel & Tourism students enjoyed a recent visit to key attractions
in Edinburgh including Mary King’s Court, Scottish Parliament and Royal Yacht Britannia. Meanwhile, HND
Hospitality Management students enjoyed a tour of Auchentoshan whisky distillery and The Houston Brewing
Company learning about mashing, malting and distillation processes, finished off with a visit to 5 star Mar Hall
Hotel in Renfrew.

Good Food Show Live Fashion Transformation

Glasgow Met takes on Hamburg! Citylink Project

Three talented Glasgow Met students enjoyed Graphic Design student Alan McGhee got the
success at the ‘Hamburg Verwohnt’ food festival opportunity to view his winning ‘City Link’ design
held in Hamburg, Germany. Professional Cookery poster on a Glasgow billboard after winning a
students took part in the annual cooking challenge Graphic Design competition run by Levy McCallum

Student Union
As a student of Glasgow Met you automatically become a member of the Student Union. The Student Union
provides an exciting social space for all Glasgow Met students – music, pool tables, foosball, games consoles
and free to use internet café are just some of the attractions.
You also have the opportunity to become involved. The Student President and Depute President are elected
at the end of each academic year by fellow students. Alternatively you could become a Class representative
or member of the Student Executive Committee. A number of clubs and events also run throughout the year
as well as the student magazine and radio station – all absolutely free!
