Starting your career in the traditional building sector STUDENT LEARNING TO THATCH CARPENTRY STUDENTS KEY INFO YOUNG HERITAGE APPRENTICES LOCATION Across the UK - participants will be put in placements in their local area. The Summer School will be at Dumfries House in Scotland, with all travel/accommodation provided by the Princes Foundation. This 12 month course will provide 16 - 18 year olds with training and practical experience in traditional building crafts and the opportunity to gain a heritage building skills related NVQ 2.
The course is free and all participants will be paid a bursary of 765 per month.
By combining a Summer School and short courses with placements with some of the countrys leading master craftspeople, this programme will provide an invaluable opportunity for participants to gain the skills and knowledge neccessary to begin a career in a sector currently suffering from a skills shortage. COURSE DETAILS Young Heritage Apprentices will have the opportunity to be exposed to a number of craft skills and specialise in one of the following: stonemasonry, plastering, carpentry, roong and landcrafts. Our programme is made up of a three-week residential Summer School, short courses in both business skills and the repair of traditional buildings and 10 months of work placements. Placements will be local to participants so living at home is possible. Students will be learning the trade alongside master craftspeople, and working on new building schemes and conservation projects.
