Question 1

Dipin's score is 15% more than that of Rafi. Rafi's score is 10% less than that of Chandar. If the
difference between the scores of Dipin and Chandar is 14, what is the score of Rafi?
a) 180 b) 360 c) 120 d) 480
Answer : b) 360.
Solution :
Let us assume that Chandar's score = 100
Given that, Rafi's score is 10% less than that of Chandar.
Rafi's score = 90
Dipin's score is 15% more than that of Rafi.
Dipin's score = 115% of 90 = 115/100 x 90 = 103.5
Now, the difference between the scores of Dipin and Chandar = 103.5 - 100 = 3.5.
If the difference between the scores of Dipin and Chandar is 3.5 then Rafi's score = 90
If the difference is 14, then Rafi's score = 90/3.5 x 14 = 360
Hence, the required answer is 360.
Question 2
In a game show, the percentage of participants qualified to the number of participants
participated from team A is 60%. In team B, the number of participants participated is 40% more
than the participants participated from team A and the number of participants qualified from
team B is 40% more than the participants qualified from team A. What is the percentage of
participants qualified to the number of participants participated from team B?
a) 20% b) 40% c) 60% d) 80%
Answer : b) 40%
Solution :
Let the number of participants participated from team A = 100.
Percentage of participants qualified to the number of participants participated from team A is
60%;
So number of participants qualified from team A = 60.
And, the number of participants participated in team B is 40% more than the participants
participated from team A.
Number of participants participated from team B = 40% more than 100 = 140.
Also, the number of participants qualified from team B is 40% more than the participants
qualified from team A.
Number of participants qualified from team B = 40% more than 60 = 140% of 60 = 140 x 60 /
100 = 84.
Therefore, the percentage of participants qualified to the number of participants participated
from team B =
Participants Qualified
140 84
100 ?
Required percentage = 84/140 x 100 = 60%.
Question 3
There are 4 containers W, X, Y and Z, each of which can hold a maximum quantity of 200 kg of
a particular item. Container W has 40% more than X, X has 40% more than Y and Y has 30%
less than Z. If W has 102.9 kg of contents, then what percentage of full quantity did Z has?
a) 37.5% b) 12.9% c) 45.8% d) 82.4%
Answer : a) 37.5%
Solution :
Let W,X,Y and Z denote the quantities in respective containers.
Since, W contains 40% more than X, the quantity in W = 140% of X = 140/100 x X = 7X/5.
X contains 40% more than Y, then the quantity in X = 140% of Y = 140/100 x Y = 7Y/5.
Y contains 30% less than Z, then the quantity in Y = (100 - 30=)70% of Z = 70/100 x Z = 7Z/10.
From the above three, we have,
X = 5/7 W ...(1),
Y = 5/7 X ....(2),
Z = 10/7 Y....(3)
Given that, W has 102.9 kg of contents, i.e., W = 102.9.
Substituting W = 102.9 in (1), we have, X = 5/7 x 102.9 = 73.5
Substituting above value of X = 73.5 in (2), we have, Y = 5/7 x 73.5 = 52.5
Substituting above value of Y = 52.5 in (3), we have, Z = 10/7 x 52.5 = 75.
Given that, the maximum quantity of container is 200 kg.
Percentage of maximum quantity contained in Z = (quantity in Z / maximum quantity) x 100 =
75/200 x 100 = 37.5 %
Question 1
A can write 3 notebooks in 48 days and B can write 4 notebooks in 48 days. If, with the help of
their friend C, they write 5 notebooks in 20 days, then C alone can write 5 notebooks in:
a) 42 days b) 48 days c) 36 days d) 38 days.
Answer : b) 48 days.
Solution :
A can write 3 notebooks in 48 days.
Then, he can write 1 notebook in 48/3 = 16 days.
And, A's 1 day work = 1/16.
Similarly, B can write 4 notebooks in 48 days.
Then, he can write 1 notebook in 48/4 = 12 days.
And, B's 1 day work = 1/12.
Now, (A+B)'s 1 day work = 1/16 + 1/12 ... (1)
With the help of C, A and B can complete 5 note books in 20 days.
i.e., they complete 1 notebook in 20/5 = 4 days.
(A + B + C)'s 1 day work = 1/4.
And, C's 1 day work = 1/4 - (A + B)'s 1 day work
= 1/4 - (1/16 + 1/12) = 5/48
Therefore, C can complete 1 notebook in 48/5 days.
C can write 5 note books in 48/5 x 5 = 48 days.
Hence, the answer is 48 days.
Question 2
A typist A takes twice as much time as another one B or thrice as much time as the typist C to
type 150 pages. If they work together, they can type 150 papers in 2 hours then C can type 150
papers alone in :
a) 4 hours b) 6 hours c) 8 hours d) 2 hours
Answer : a) 4 hours.
Solution:
Let the time taken by A be X hours to type 150 papers.
Then B and C take X/2 and X/3 hours to type 150 papers respectively.
A's 1 hour work = 1/X
B's 1 hour work = 2/X
C's 1 hour work = 3/X.
(A + B + C)'s 1 hour work = (1/X + 2/X + 3/X) = 6/X
Given that, A, B, and C together take 2 hours.
Therefore, we have, 6/X = 1/2
X = 12.
Hence, C alone takes 12/3 = 4 hours to type 150 papers.
Question 3
A can complete 1/8 of a piece of work in 5 hours; B can complete 80% of the same piece of
work in 3 1/3 days and C can complete 2/3 of the work in 1 1/12 days. Who is the fastest
worker?
a) A b) B c) C d) B and C
Answer : c) C.
Solution :
A takes 5 hours to complete 1/8 of work.
He will take 5 x 8 = 40 hours to complete whole work.
B takes 3 1/3 days to complete 80% of the work;
i.e., he takes 10/3 days = 10/3 x 24 hours = 80 hours to complete 80% work.
Therefore, whole work will be done by B in 100 hours.
C takes 1 1/12 days = 13/12 days to complete 2/3 of work.
i.e., he takes 13/12 x 24 hours = 26 hours for 2/3 of work.
Therefore, whole work will be done by C in (26 x 3/2) = 39 hours.
And he takes minimum time to do the work.
Hence, C will complete the work first.
