Job Description If you're a recent or soon to be university or college graduate looking to learn and grow, grad@loblaw is for you.
Our 15-month, paid rotational training program lets you experience our company from many perspectives. Youll rotate through
various roles to understand our whole business. Your final placement will be in Information Technology.
Store Rotation:
You will spend the first four months in the program working in the core of our business our stores. Youll learn how we deliver
a great customer experience and understand why customers matter most. The stores are at the core of what we do as a
business - be prepared to jump right in and work alongside other colleagues on day-to-day functions at the store.
Merchandising Rotation:
Once youve understood how our stores function, youll spend three months in our merchandising department. Youll learn
about how we choose and source the products we sell and how they get onto the stores shelves. Youll have a chance to work
with a team to put your learning into practice on real assignments and responsibilities.
Destination Department Rotation in IT:
Experience in stores and merchandising will demonstrate how dynamic our business is; your last rotation will help you
understand the link between your destination department and our customers. Youll get right into the mix and learn by doing.
Youll gain hands-on-experience by working with a team to understand and complete the responsibilities associated with
various roles in your department.
All candidates are hired as permanent, full-time colleagues from day one, and upon successful completion of the 15-month
program you will find yourself in our store support head office in Brampton or regional office in Mississauga*. Your final role will
likely be as an Analyst within one of our 3 pillars in IT: Technology Service Management (TSM); Business Relationship
Management (BRM); OR Application Service Management (ASM). (Exact roles will be determined based on business need
and grad skill set).
*Temporary or permanent relocation may be required for the program or your final role. Loblaw offers relocation support, which
includes financial assistance.
Overview Information Technology:
The goal of IT is to deliver reliable and timely service to our business. Our mission is to become an outstanding solution
integrator that proactively leads the delivery, implementation and support of leading-edge technologies and information to
enable Loblaws priorities to be achieved. Our Vision is to be Canadas best retail technology organization by providing
outstanding service and delivering high-value business enabling solutions to our customers through a team of skilled and
motivated individuals.
The Technology Service Management (TSM) team which includes IT Tools, National Operations, Architecture, Build & Design
and National Support is responsible for all physical IT equipment and enabling technologies across; Stores, Distribution
Centers, Offices, Data Centers and Colleagues. TSM is the infrastructure behind the business.
The Business Relationship Management (BRM) teams are the face of IT to the business and are responsible for running IT
projects and delivering business capability through technology. BRM ensures that our business has the technology solutions
they need to remain competitive. The BRM is also the interface between Loblaw business units and IT and this business unit
has been created to build an executive level partnership between IT and the business. BRMs are responsible for advocating
IT to the business while ultimately focusing on delivering end to end solutions that will meet business needs and maximize
performance.
The Application Service Management (ASM) team are the Centre Of Excellence and are accountable for developing and
supporting outstanding applications (including SAP), and help to ensure the business requirements are met and there are
limited impacts to the Loblaws day to day operations.
What Were Looking For:
You're set to graduate in Spring 2014 or have graduated from an accredited university or college in or outside Canada within
24 months of Spring 2014
Youve graduated or will graduate with a degree, diploma or post-graduate certificate in Information Technology, Computer
Science, Business Administration/Project Management, Engineering (BEng) (asset), Computer Engineering (asset) OR you
have work experience in the IT field
You have customer service experience, either through a paid or volunteer position
Youre a solid, well-rounded student with extra-curricular and/or volunteer involvement
You ideally have some retail experience (asset, not a requirement)
