Alston Line to Lindsay to Walton.
John Alston, of Bedfordshire, England, married Anne
Wallis, and had issue John, born circa 1673, died 1756.
John Alston, second, bom Felmersham, Bedfordshire,
England; was baptised 12-5-1673, Vestryman, Magistrate,
Judge of the Supreme Court of the Colony 1721-1730,
Colonel of Militia, married Mary Clark, daughter of John
Clark, of Albemarle County, North Carolina. (John Clark
was a Colonel in Indian Wars 1754; Member of the Legisla
ture 1734, Vestryman, St. Thomas Parish, Chowan County,
N. C., (see Colonial and State Records of North Carolina),
and had issue Sarah. ^
Sarah Alston married Thomas Kearney circa 1730
(Thomas Kearney was an Irish Lord and emigrated circa
1700 from Knockonglass, Tipperary, Ireland. His title is
proven by reference to his will, which is recorded in Halifax
County, N. C., in Will Book No. 1, page 146, and which con
cludes as follows: "Witnessed whereunto I set my Lord's
seal," etc., Member of Legislature), and had issue Philip,
born 1733, died 10-28-1794.
Philip Kearney, married, 11-30-1763, Elizabeth Kinchen,
daughter of William and Mary Dawson Kinchen. (The
father of Mary Dawson, wife of William Kinchen was the
Honorable John Dawson, of North Carolina, Member of
Assembly 1734-1740, associate Justice Superior Court 1751,
Colonel of Militia, see Colonial and State Records of
North Carolina) and had issue Sarah, born 3-2-1774, died
12-16-1840. ^ ^ _

James Lindsay, immigrant, first found in Gloucester
County, Virginia, in 1635, appears in the family records of
the Rev. John Lindsay, his great, great grandson as the

second son of Sir Jerome Lindsay of "Annatland." From
names, dates and other data found in the "Lindsay's of
America," by Margaret Isabella Lindsay, and in "Lives of
the Lindsays," by Lord Lindsay, published in 1849 (Vol. I,
pages 248 and 428) this claim seems probable. He had issue
Caleb, born circa 1664, died 1717, "Potabor Hall" St. Mary's
Parish, Caroline County, Virginia.
Caleb Lindsay married a Miss Clare, of Spottsylvania
County, Virginia, and had issue James, born 1700, died
1782.
James Lindsay, Vestryman St. Mary's Parish, Caroline
County, Virginia, married Sarah Daniel, daughter of Wil
liam Daniel, Gent., of Caroline County, and had issue John
born 8-27-1728.
John Lindsay moved to Halifax County, North Carolina,
Militiaman in French and Indian Wars, H. S. v. 7-220,
1756-1758, married Mary Masterson, a daughter of Edward
and Mary Masterson (Edward Masterson said to be a de-
scendent of Sir Thomas Masterson and was also a soldier
in the French and Indian Wars, H. S. v. 7-21), and had
issue John, born 5-30-1768, died 1828.
John Lindsay (Reverend) married Sarah Kearney, 11-
10-1796 (see Alston line), moved to Maury County, Tennes
see, and had issue, Sarah, born 8-29-1806.
Sarah Lindsay married Russell McCord Williamson, Sur
veyor General of Mississippi, and had issue Martha
Almedia, born 11-5-1828, died 11-15-1908.
Martha Almedia Williamson, married circa 1852, Dr.
James W. Phillips, Surgeon, C. S. A., and had issue Mary
Kearney, born 10-25-1862, died 10-16-1921.
Mary Kearney Phillips married Charles Cortlandt
Walton, I, July 31-1879, and had issue Charles Cortlandt,
II, born 5-23-1880.
