Circular CS&NB/MBS/2011-12/ 08
The Chief General Manager
State Bank of India,
Local Head Office
All Circles
Dear Sir/Madam,
Mobile Banking Service
Interbank Mobile Payment Service (IMPS)
Allotment of MMID
We refer to e- Circular CS&NB/MBS/2010-11/ 02 dated 13.10.2010.
2. Till recently MMIDs for Interbank Mobile Payment Service were being allotted only to
following customers:
a. Primary accounts of the customers registering for Mobile Banking Service,
b. Customers who register over the ATM for SMS alerts/ Secure Code/ IMPS.
3. There was no system to capture the request of customers for allotment of MMIDs at
the Branch. Also, there was no system to allot MMIDs to non-P segment customers.
The branch interface for allotment of MMID to customers (P segment as also non-P
segment) is now ready (at url http://10.0.12.223/smemmid/login.aspx ) and can be used
by all branches for registering their customers for allotment of MMIDs. Various
functionalities of GeMS site as also the process of registration at branches is detailed in
Annexure A. The customer will fill up an application form (as per Annexure B) for
allotment of MMID. The form should be signed by the account holder (s) or authorized
signatory (in case of non-P segment customers).
4. Login User IDs for all the branches are sbi.nnnnn (where nnnnn stands for the
Branch code). The Branch code should be entered in 5 digits. The user Id has been
made the default password (e.g. if User ID is sbi.08115, the default password is set as

sbi.08115). The Branches may change the password after first login, by using the option
change password, available in the website. Only one official should be permitted access
to this site. His password may be kept in a sealed envelope with the branch manager
and may be used by another official only in case of extreme emergency. Proper record
should be maintained at the branch in regard to access rights to the site.
5. Branches should exercise caution in entering data in GeMS site as MMID allotment
is based on the combination of account number and mobile number of a particular
customer and in the Banks database, Customers account number, mobile number and
MMID get mapped. The remittances are received by a customer for a combination of
mobile number and MMID based on which the money gets credited to the customers
mapped account in Banks database. Therefore,
a. if mobile number is not entered correctly in this site, the MMID generated will be
a waste as the customer will not get message for the MMID and will not be able
to avail the benefit of mobile-to-mobile money transfer.
b. if the account number is not entered correctly, the MMID will be a waste as when
MMID is advised to the customer he is also advised the account number for this
MMID. If the account number is incorrect, the customer will approach the Branch
once again for MMID allotment. Moreover, if the customer fails to notice the
wrong account number, the money will get credited to the wrong account making
the Bank liable for conversion of funds.
6. Please arrange to circulate the instructions to all the Branches/ Offices under your
control.

Yours faithfully,

Chief General Manager (CS&NB)
