Again, here the branding(the style that a company is related

to) has not been associated with the double page feature
spread. There is no main masthead that initiates the logo and
the brand.

The target audience(this is the audience that the magazine aims the product at) for David Bowie has adjusted
over time because older people around 60 will be interested in him because it is their era and a younger audience
is also still interested in him today (wide audience). Therefore the language used(the mode of adress either being
sophisticated or colloquial) is formal because its addressing more of an older audience than younger.

The use of space is used

in two columns which
give the space around it
more depth and is
noticeable to the reader
as they will feel relaxed
feeling like they dont
have a lot to read. The
column width is the
same and the
positioning is levelled.
(this is how the text is
structured)
The colour scheme
remains red black and
white to represent the
NME brand and how the
red links with the
masthead on the contents
page. By having an all red
background also creates
this and also the idea of
action and danger- this
could possibly symbolise
when Bowie was in action
films and then
foreshadowing this into
the possible text. A drop
cap is also used as a
typcial convention for a
double page spread, this
is the large letter at the
start of the text.

The audience gets an

over-all impression
that the article is
about David Bowies
new album and Dan
Stubbs review on it
this is shown from
the main caption
which is in bold to
catch the audiences
attention. The main
image also gives us
the impression that
we are going to look
back on Bowies
greatest moments in
music.
The basic layout is
simplistic and doesnt
show any obvious
sign of a grid(this is to
keep the layout of
the magazine
organised).
The two main images(biggest images or only images on the page)
are of Bowie himself. The connotation (the main definition of what
is on the magazine) is that he is dressed smartly which could also
represent the attraction and formality to the older readers. By
having an over the shoulder to the left shot and a mid shot next to
each other it gives the impression that the denotion (what
thoughts or feelings that are brought from the main image) to the
reader that Bowie is looking back at himself and reflecting on the
past.

The language used in the caption(linking information to the amin image and the artciel
itself) under the article title(Always different) is using play on words. For example from
Nothing has changed using quotations (suggesting someone has said this) and reveals
about the man who changed everything this is a contrast to how the language is used
to intergrate (how the text and the images are linked)this feature (main image). It also
interests the audience because Dan Stubbs is going against the main feature from
David, which will lure the audience to read about different point of views- again
attracting the older type of audience, who like to discuss.
