Hi Everyone,
I hope that you all had an
excellent November. The year
is nearly over. So many games
are out there now, who will
have what in their Christmas
stocking I wonder.
Blood Angels in 40k are
finally released in a new
codex, and as my favourite of
the 40k armies am excited to
see what they can have and
what changes have been made
for the latest edition of the
game. They will be out this
month in a box set with a slew
of Tyranid miniatures, and a
mini rulebook.
Were going back to basics
with our home gaming, having
finished our WFRP campaign,
and getting ready to move on
into Path to Glory,
Necromunda, and Warhammer
Quest.
Dates for PentaCon will be
out soon. As usual maximum
players are 10, (which keeps
things nice and manageable).
The mini tournament is
designed around 5 games in
one day. We try to simplify the
games so that they can be
played in an hour. All
miniatures, games and rules
are provided on the day.

announced in January Snake

Dog County Range Wars is
now into its 4th turn. Two
Ranchers are dead, and
alliances are being made in
this turn to stem the tide.
Businesss will soon be up
for auction in Dogtown. Read
more in the Dogtown Howler.
The second part of the fan
based rules of Path to Glory
are in this issue, continued
from last month, for those
who wanted to give this
great spin off game a go.
Based on Chaos Warbands
in the realm of Warhmmer, it
presents a great skirmish
game, that allows you to create a warband and gain
favour points from your
chosen chaos god, which
then allow you to gain more
followers and upgrades for
them as well as your
champion. See page 16 for
more details.
I would like to take this
opportunity to thank you for
taking the time to read
Snake Eyes. May you and
your families and friends
have the best Merry Christmas and Happy and Safe
New Year.

The survey published in last

issue of Snake Eyes is ongoing
as I have received a few late
ones so am leaving it open to
entries until December 12,

WAR MACHINE
Warmachine is a steampunkthemed tabletop miniature
wargame published by Privateer
Press. It is designed by Mat Wilson and Jason Soles.
The first edition of Warmachine
was released in 2002. After releasing numerous models and
new model types Privateer Press
decided that the game was in
need of a rebalancing. So in
2010 after years of play testing
and a public field test they released Warmachine Mk II.
Alongside Warmachine, PP
(Privateer Press) has released
Hordes. A fantasy-themed tabletop miniature wargame being
a variant of Warmachine.
The Game
Warmachine is normally played
on a 6x6board. Two armies
each led by a warcaster fight to
win control of a portion of that
board or to kill the opposing
warcaster. The warcaster is a
warrior-sorcerer, who alongside
fighting and spellcasting also
has the ability to control 12 feet
tall steam-powered warjacks.
The warjacks have a basic predatory intelligence thanks to an
invention called a cortex. The
cortex allows the warcaster to
see through the jacks eyes
guiding its attacks to hit or
damage better. This is represented by one of the central
mechanics of the game and its
called boosting.
The army can also include units
of infantry, cavalry, weapon
crews and battle engines. They
come in two flavors, units and
solos. The warcaster, warjacks,
units, solos and battle engines
are all different model types.

REVIEWS ON THE RUN

Last issue I spoke about Cigar Box Gaming Mat.
Last month I also acquired an Urban Combat
F.A.T. Mat. Having enjoyed the use of both of
these mats, I wanted to share these details with
you in this issues review on the run.
Starting with the Cigar Box gaming mat. I selected the WW2 era countryside from a wide range
of selections. The image is digitally printed onto a
soft blanket like material, which is then draped
over the table like a tablecloth. There is enough
of the mat to slightly overhang the sides. I am not
sure that this was deliberate or not, but this does
allow the player to place small hills and pieces
under the mat, to create the image of raised terrain, without losing the effect of the digital image.
I purchased mine with the intention of using it for
Bolt Action, however you can see in the photos it
is set up for a fantasy game (Path to Glory).
The Urban Combat F.A.T. mat, is made from a
type of neoprene (think thicker and more flexible
mouse pad). It comes with its own carry bag. The
digital image is very clear, and details are crisp.
Its size does not have the overhang, which I dont
think would suit this material. I wanted the Urban
Combat mat for games of Cityfight and general
40k, Bolt Action and with thoughts of an open
Zombie game. It doesnt allow the placement of
hills under the surface as the fold is created right
across the surface rather than just draping, but
who needs hills in the city?
To sum up, the Cigar Box gaming mat has more
flexibility in gaming but the image of shrubs/trees
make me want to cover them with real model
trees. Both mats sell around the $110 range.

Your choice...expensive or inventive

When it comes to war gaming,
you would realise by now that it
can be an expensive hobby. The
biggest success that Games
Workshop and miniature producers like it have achieved, is selling
the sizzle. You grab your copy of
the latest White Dwarf and there
in a superb paint job is a new
miniature just released. If you
play the system, then chances
are you want this figure, even if
you dont collect that army.
Why? They sold you the sizzle.
Yes, it is accompanied with the
battle report, and how many
enemies it and its relative army
can kill, and it is usually a well
made model. As the collector

would no doubt support me in

this, if you have one you have to
have more. Otherwise the collection is incomplete. They have
then done their job...youre
hooked.
So your options are, you can
buy them new from the store or
mail order. Or second hand from
Ebay, and the various sites out
there. Either way it is going to
cost you, but it can be influenced
by you as to how much.
Ebay sellers for example do
have a contact email, so send
them a message and see what
else they might be listing in the

near future. They usually

dont sell all in one go. If it is
in your price range give them
an offer for the lot. Use paypal
to fund your purchase on
Ebay, or not for your own protection, and youll have some
miniatures on the way. Mail
order stores sometimes will
offer a good discount, so their
worth checking out also, especially if you can buy in bulk.
Lastly are the cheap replicas
of miniatures which I can say
that they are out there, and
some are okay, but you risk an
incomplete model and sometimes your money.

Best source to know what you

are looking for would be the
Codex relevant to the army

many gaming
systems out
there...all you
have to do is
find one that
suits you

From the Collectors Vault

It appears a brave person is
going to run an Oldtimers
event in 2015 for Warhammer
40,000.... 2nd Edition! Word is
it that while it will be a tournament with someone coming
first, this is not the major
award. The word is (am I repeating myself) that the major
award will be for having the
most complete collection of
figures from the 2nd Edition era
or earlier, which means Rogue
Trader era and the days of
chunky red. With this criteria
being in the mix, people might
be starting to think of finding
figures from that era.

There are

you want to field. Filled with

lots of colourful pictures, but
more importantly the catalogue section towards the rear
where you could see what was
on offer (at the time). The
other source for collectors is
the four Citadel Miniatures
Catalogues , titled Section
One through Four. Of course if
you have kept your White
Dwarfs from all those years
ago (like any good Archivist)
there is another source. There
are also online sources which
are dedicated to the miniature
collector.
Where to find your figures?
That is hard for some easy for
others. If you live in the UK or
USA then availability and
SNAKE

affordability are relatively accommodating. If you live here

in Australia, expect to pay
through the nose. Sadly our
hobby is now about making
money on an investment
rather than a hobby for gaming. There are many online
sources these days to chase
down a bargain. Many wargame communities have their
own forums where people can
sell their wares, facebook also
has a growing number of
groups that hock their wares,
then of course there is the
dreaded eBay where you will
in all likelihood be fleeced to
buy that overpriced model you
want.
If in doubt google it!

Banter you have just got to love, whether writing it or reading it. As some of you will know we have a wild west game running
through this magazine. Updates are on facebook (Dog County Range Wars and Dogtown group pages) if you care to have a look. The
game is only three turns old but the banter has begun, some true and most not. The nature of banter I believe is to engage one or more
people on a topic. Once you do that, try to out do their efforts and watch other join in. For me this has become some of my treasured
memories and still building.

Photos are another thing that bring pleasure to the table in our Dog County we are trying to do as many as we can to support the
game. When the players make the effort it a special treat for me. A lot will never post but like which is still supporting the game but I feel
they are missing out on so much more.

Stories about there characters and ranches are great way to build up fibre of the game. Some has gone to great lengths to fill in the
blanks of their family and origins. Again this isnt for all but trust me its fun and satisfying.
So I hope you can add to any game you are playing and do that little extra. You reward will be enjoyment for you and your friends.
Thanks for your ear.

Necromunda Campaign - SpireLord with GGG member Darian Chase

This month saw the GGG members picking their gangs. There are
still spots for those who are interested in playing. All you have to do
is select a gang from one of the houses shown below. We will do
our best to win for you and post the results of your gang.

8. The Rippers Leader also passed his test.

In turn 6, The Headhunters gang started their turn by taking a
bottle test and passed once again. Gangers and Juves stayed as
hidden as possible. The next dice roll could be bad for either
player.

Necromunda is played on a 4 x 4 foot table, with terrain representing the underhive a a futuristic city in the galaxy of Warhammer 40000.

In the recovery phase, one of the Cawdor gangers went from

being down to a flesh wound, allowing the Headhunters to be
less than 25% losses. When the Goliaths had their next turn
though, the Rippers rolled their bottle test and lost, rolling 10.
The Goliaths ran from the table, leaving Flynns Cawdor gang the
winner.

Initially available will be the 6 houses; Goliath, Delaque, Esher,

Cawdor, Orlock, and Van Saar, and the Outlaw gangs; Skavvy, Redemptionists, Spyrers, Pit Slaves, Cultists and Enforcers.
Current gangs and members are shown below. Pictures were taken for these games but I was unable to get them here for this issue,
but I will give you a round up of the results of the first games of the
campaign.

Flynn ODonohue - Cawdor

Henry Scott - Goliath
Darian Chase - Delaque
In the game between Zacs Escher gang (The Ironskirts) and my
Delaque gang, (Habtown Baldies), the game was as quick as I
have ever seen a game of Necromunda played.

Nick Chase - Orlock

Zac Mehta - Escher

The Ironskirts won the first turn after set up, but kept movement to a minimum, choosing hiding and overwatch to let the
fight come to them. The Habtown Baldies had rolled Vents as
part of their initial territory. This allowed them to get up into the
heights of the buildings at the end of their first turn. The targets
up high proved too much for the gangers in hiding and exposed
themselves as they tried to shoot at the Delaque gang. This then
left their positions exposed.

All gangs started with a basic setup. That is, 1 Leader, 1 Heavy, 4
Gangers and 2 Juves, bought with 1000 creds. Nicks gang had a bye
for the first game set played. Flynns Cawdor (The Headhunters)
went up against Henrys Goliaths. (Rippers)
The Headhunters won the roll to start, and the Cawdor gang set
out across the table to get some retribution from the steroid
pumped Rippers. Turn 2 was more about getting into position on
the table and settle in for some nice arcs of fire. By turn 3, things
were heating up, first kill going to the Goliath heavy, taking down a
Headhunter Ganger. The Ripers also downed one of the Cawdor
Juves. The Headhunters had made some of their hits in turn 3, but
failed to wound. The Rippers achieved nothing.

The Escher managed to wing a Habtown Baldies juve, who had

strayed too close by running towards the action hoping no doubt
to scrag some Escher, in their turn. In the return fire, the
Delaque heavy took full advantage of the Escher exposure as he
fired into one group of closely huddled Eschers, and put two
down, and in the same turn the Habtown Baldies leader put
down an Ironskirts Juve.

In turn 4, the Cawdor luck turned the tables on the Goliaths, with
a combination of lucky dice or good shooting reduce the Rippers
down, forcing them to take their first bottle test. The Goliaths
rolled a 6 on 2 dice. The Rippers would stay and fight on.

The Ironskirts rolled their first bottle test and the dice came up
as a 9. The Esher gang left the territory, vowing revenge.

(Necromunda losses of 25% or more result in the gang having to

take a break test immediately, rolling under the leaders Ld or Leadership score on 2 dice. After which that gang has to roll a break test
at the start of every turn from then on. If they fail, they bottle off
the table)

To play in this Necromunda Campaign just register your interest

in an email to snakeeyes.magazine@gmail.com and let us know
what gang you would be interested in. The top five gangs will be
flouted in Snake Eyes each month, but all players will know how
their gang is doing , with an email each month.

In turn 5, The Headhunters were down by 25% also, requiring

both gangs to roll for a bottle test at the start of their turn. The
Cawdor gang rolled a double 2, well below his Bosss leadership of

Fate Of A Nation Design Notes

The fate of a nation hangs in the balance. Israel cannot
lose even a single battle. One defeat would mean the
destruction of the tiny Jewish state. Not waiting to be
attacked by the Arab forces massing on its borders,
Israel strikes first.
Hundreds of tanks sweep across the borders, punching
deep into the enemy defences, seeking out the enemy
tanks. The infantry follow behind, assaulting the fortifications, clearing the way for the advance to continue.
A bare six days later, the war was over. A thousand
tanks lay strewn across the desert. Tens of thousands
of soldiers lay dead and wounded. Israel had survived,
but the Arabs vowed that there would be no peace with
Israel.

The Extra Review by GGG Member Peter Toh

Greetings Snake Eyes readers,
Halloween has just been and gone, and in the spirit (yes pun intended) of the holiday, some friends of mine organised a Halloween themed
game night. Six attended, which was a good number for the games we had in mind. So in commemoration of the event, I would like to give a
review of the games we played.
To start with we had to decide what we would play we had several games to choose from. To start, we had decided we would play Zombie
Fluxx, and then we would have to decide between either Betrayal at House on the Hill, Elder Sign, or Witch of Salem.
In the end the choice was... Betrayal at House on the Hill. (Witch of Salem had a maximum of 4 players, so it was out and Elder sign seemed a
bit too fidgety with the components for some of the group).
Zombie Fluxx is one in a range of Fluxx card games. I was originally hesitant to purchase any of the Fluxx
games because I hadnt heard anything about them. It was only because my wife found a Wizard of Oz themed
version that I tried it at all, and now we are hooked. We have Oz, Star, and Zombie Fluxx, and among our friends
there is also Pirate, and Cthulhu (and another copy of Star). We still need to get Monty Python, Original, and Eco
Fluxxes.
Betrayal at House on the Hill, has been around for about 10 years (originally from Avalon Hill), and was revised
and re-released by Wizards of the Coast a few years ago. There are many reviews and videos etcetera on the web
about the game so I will try not to get too in-depth about gameplay and rules, but give you a quick rundown of
our games and the opinions formed.

Zombie Fluxx:
Following the success of our previous games of Fluxx we thought this would be a nice easy start to the gaming night, and a nice way to settle
into the mood of the evening. Unfortunately, because of zombie theme of the game, it played very differently to Oz or Star Fluxx. In the end the
game was taking too long (and getting interrupted by Trick or Treaters and dinner), that we ended the game prematurely.

Betrayal at House on the Hill:

After dinner we cracked open Betrayal at House on the Hill. One of the first nice things about the game is that if at least one person has played
before, it is a really easy learning curve, and you can jump into the game with minimal effort or setup hassles.
The second thing that really caught my attention is the fact that at some point during the game the tables are turned and instead of a simple
exploration of a creepy house, it becomes a flight or fight for survival: The Haunt phase of the game. Also bear in mind that the longer the
Haunt continues, the harder it gets for the players (Investigators) to survive.
So for our first game, when the tables turned, the entire house was taken by a giant Roc, so the 6 investigators had to find one of the two parachutes left in the house and escape... Yes this meant that 4 people were going to die (if not because they killed each other trying to get the parachute, then because the Roc took them back to the nest to feed them to the babies).
Due to luck more than anything else, one investigator found himself alone on a floor, next to a window and almost guaranteed to get a parachute on his go (which was second after it all went pear shaped) so it really became a fight for the remaining 5 investigators to get the last remaining parachute. Ultimately 2 of the remaining investigators were shot by one of the other investigators, and the last one got lucky and
avoided the shot as they ran for the exit with the last parachute.
That was great, lets do that again. This time the Haunt was a protection duty style of game. One of the investigators was revealed to be the
heir to the manor, and they would have to find 2 ancient artefacts in the house (one of which was already possessed by the team), and then
make their way to the throne in one of the rooms. One of the other players turned Traitor whose goal it was to assassinate the
heir (without knowing who the heir is) with the aid of some of their own assassins.

SNAKE

10

EYES

This one was quite a bit more fun and interesting for all the players, as we knew we could have assassins jump out at any time, and we still had
to find the last artefact. Ultimately the good guys won, but it was close and enjoyed by everyone.

Closing Thoughts
Zombie Fluxx: This unfortunately is one of the longer and more complicated (relatively) of the Fluxx titles, so
was not great as an introduction to the Fluxx game system normal Fluxx games last 10 to 40 minutes, but
our games of Zombie fluxx clock 80+ minutes on average. Nevertheless, as a non thinking, fun sit down game
it is good. Personally I find it similar to Killer Bunnies in that the gameplay is simple and easy once you know
it, but the game can get bogged down if people take too much time and overthink their plays.

Betrayal at House on the Hill: This as already mentioned is a fun, easy and fast game, and more than that, it is wife friendly you all know
what Im talking about. The game has extremely good replay ability (50 base scenarios in the game, with additional ones available on-line), and
player variety is easy to maintain (12 different characters to choose from). Definitely I would recommend this one.
Note: I have been told that Betrayal and Witch of Salem are currently out of print and quite hard to find, but I did see a copy of Betrayal in Comic
Warriors at Annerley the week after Halloween.

The Dog County Range Wars players map, turn 3/4, allows players in the campaign to gauge their expansion in the new territory as well as
have a guess where their opponents might be. The colour coding shows where the real money is, in terms of land and income. Lush Lands
that are worked, (that is to say that a Ranch Hand is holding that land at the end of the turn), are worth $100 income to that Ranch.
Abundant Lands are worth $75, Grazing Lands are worth $50 and Arid Lands will produce $25 per month if worked. This information will
allow players to plan their next expansion to create the most profit, and to defend the more expensive property, avoiding the cheaper
lands. The black squares around the map represent Trading Posts, and the big one in the centre is where Dogtown is. The Red Stars are the
Ranches. The trees represent timbered hexes which when harvested will become grazing lands. Brown colours are mountain ranges which
like the rivers and trading posts, can be named as the players discover them. Silver can be found in the mountains, but its risky. You might
lose that ranch hand. Red skull and bones show land clashes last turn where battles have occurred. Players can now just send what numbered hex that their Ranch Hands will be going to and through. Go to Dogtown group on Facebook for the current map and more details.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT - Glen Taylor

Hi to all.
I have always loved war movies, science fiction, and fantasy. Early in the eighties, I
was living in Gladstone, in Queensland, and on the front page of the local paper was a
picture of a Castle and showed 15mm figures in front of it. Two keen gamers hovered
over it.
Thus was my first contact with wargaming and can I say, love affair?
I have played all periods of history and Games Workshop fantasy and 40k. I have
been involved with starting and running clubs as well as organizations, tournaments
and convention style weekends.
I spent some time away from gaming for awhile with other interests but always was
watching from the background. These days I have gone back in time and am playing
3rd edition Warhammer and collecting the old armies. I am working on having at least
1500 points of all of the armies from back then, but some no doubt will be bigger as I
am a collector at heart.
Usually when I am interested in a game I will invest a lot of time (and money-Ed) into it. If it peaks
my interest I normally tell my gaming friends to have a look at it or will play games with them to garner
their interest. I enjoy board games as well and have collected many over the years. Games such as
Arkham Horror and Fury of Dracula are some that I have played many times with groups of friends.
Currently I have taken up Warmachine and Hordes, and can't sing the praises high enough. Never in
all my time gaming have I ever come across a game so intense. Definitely not for the weak hearted. I
feel like a kid in a candy shop. Warmachine/Hordes has been running for about 10 years so I'm way
behind with lots to do.
Most of you would have seen my first weeks effort in Snake Eyes. Had just finished playing
in Brissy Champs and came 28 out of 60 odd players.
Also, I have created a few games in which I was lucky enough to have players play. (Original
Dogtown and current Dog County Range Wars to name two-Ed)
Thanks for reading this far and i hope to see you across the table one day

FINAL SAY...With a reference to the gaming mats

reviewed on page 3, I bought mine from Shayne
Treasure of Campaign Books and Game Logistics, and
the Urban Combat F.A.T. Mat, I purchased from Paul
Skuse at Corinda News. Both of these gentlemen are
great to deal with.
