Written Report:

1. The study seeks to know the efficacy of several indigenous plant extracts on
the malaria vector Anopheles subpictus Grassi.
2. As indicated in the journal, the purpose of the present study was to assess
the ethyl acetate, acetone and methanol extracts of Andrographis paniculata,
Eclipta prostrate and Tagetes erecta leaves tested for oviposition-deterrent,
ovicial and repellent activities against Anopheles subpictus Grassi
3. The study revealed several evidences that the plant extracts were already
used in other ovicial and repellent studies. It, therefore, hypothesize that
these extracts will be effective against Anopheles subpictus Grassi.
4. Yes, there was a clear presentation of the step-by-step procedure in testing
the hypothesis. The report clearly stated the methodology of the study
because the significance of each procedure was explained.
5. Yes, the result of the study was related to the hypothesis. It was able to lay
down the percentage of effectiveness in each category (oviposition-deterrent,
ovicial and repellent activities). The mean, median and mode of the
experiment were also computed. Through these results, the efficacy of the
indigenous plant extracts was known.
6. Yes, the discussion of the results was consistent with the findings. It only
elaborated and interpreted the data from the experiment. The ovicidial
activity of different plant extracts against the eggs of Anopheles subpictus
Grassi were tabulated. It was interpreted to show that the repellent activity
was dose dependent.
The conclusion of the discussion was also consistent to the tabulated results,
revealing the oviposition deterrent, ovicidial and repellent activities at low
concentrations and short exposure time of some indigenous plants.
7. Yes, the references were consistent in their formats.
8. The article was clearly written, as there was a brief introduction to the topic
of the study. There were also explanations to the methodology and the
discussions. For ordinary readers, understanding the article could be harder
than normal articles because of the scientific terms used. But all in all, as long
as an individual knows the basic of a scientific report, the journal is a good
example of a clear and brief paper.
9. The strength of this research lies on the fact that there was a lot of evidence
provided to show the efficacy of the plants. It also serves as a pioneer to
naturally occurring insecticides that can replace the synthetic insecticides
used in controlling Anopheles subpictus Grassi.
The weakness of the study, however, is the limitation of the efficacy of the
plants which is only tested in eradicating the malaria vector Anopheles
subpictus Grassi.
