ACT I
The two charcters presented in the first scene are Trudge and the uncle of the main chara
cter Inkle, Medium, and they are worried about the fact that if their ship did not arrived i
n time they would have been eaten by the native Americans present there. They are in th
e forest, looking for Inkle that is lost through it. Then he appears, saying that he travels
not only "for motion" but especially to find something useful to his business bacause he
is a merchant. In reply his uncle says that his duty is to convey his betrothed Narcissa ba
ck to her father, the wealthy governor of Barbadoes, and not to think on his own improv
ement. In the second scene a ship is at anchor in the bay, its captain and his sailors are w
aiting for Inkle, Trudge and Medium to arrive but at a certain time they decide to aband
on them there, because they were waiting for some food to share but after they saw the
m without it they decide to leave and only Medium succeed in sailing off. So Trudge an
d Inkle have now to pay attention because there's a group of cannibals behind them. Thu
s, they decide to walk in order to find a place that could hide them. In the third scene aft
er they walk for a while they found a cave, decorated with skins of wild beasts, so they t
hink it's a house of the cannibals, but then they find two women sleeping there, Yarico a
nd Wowski. When they wake up and found that the two men were hiding there they fell
in love with each other and the women decide to defend and protect from the dangerous
cannibals.

noisy world of trading. They are aware of the lack of slaves and so want to buy them. T

and want to learn new things so she makes to Trudge a lot of questions. Then there is a d
ialogue between Trudge and a Planter in which we understand the different meaning of t
he term market (the latter refers to the market of slave and want Wowski to become it, w
hile Trudge first refers to the market of goods, then understand and deny the planter this
pleasure bacause he loves his woman). Another dialogue takes place between Inkle and
another planter who's trying to convince him to sell Yarico, focusing on his old merchan
t values. At first Inkle doesn't want to, but then he decides to sell her because the old val
ues prevailed upon him. Then after sir Christopher and Medium talk about their own vir
tues, in the second scene a servant gives the announcement that an English vessel is just
arrived in the harbour so the governor think it's her daughter and want the marriage to b
e made up soon. Then Campley enters and there's a set of misunderstanding because he
understand from sir Christopher that he could marry Narcissa while the governor unders
tand that Campley wants to help him carry on with the marriage.

to sell Yarico to the governor, thinking that he can treat her in a better way than he does.
But the governor talk about the slave trade as a consequence so in a negative way where

enters, screaming and crying out to Inkle to not leave her after she defend and proctect h
im from cannibals for all that time. So sir Christopher take the defence of Yarico and kn
