December 14, 2014

December 14, 2014
Greetings to all!
I am so happy to be a part of such a warm, caring, fun-loving
group of ladies. Our December dinner and auction was not only
a tremendous success, but it was LOTS of fun. The bidding got
really serious at times, and by the end of the evening, we made
enough to cover our scholarships! I would like to thank all of
you who brought the delicious appetizers and a special thanks to
Susan Lindsey for hosting the event in her lovely home.
One of the highlights of the December gathering was
inviting Nancy Shaheens mother, Betty Shaw, to be an
honorary member. She has opened her home to us for our
meetings many times, and she has been supportive of our
organization for years. We will formally initiate her in
February. It is very exciting to welcome her into our Kappa Phi
family.
Our work at Strickland continues to make a lot of teachers
happy. The volunteer box is usually full of requests for copies,
laminating, and cutting. They know who we are and seem to
trust us to do a good job. We are planning to put cookies in the
lounge in January. Vicky suggested that instead of trying to
remember to bring bags of cookies to the meeting, that we all
donate a dollar so that she can purchase a nice tray of cookies
for January 13th. We will put a DKG display in the lounge
along with the cookies.
Dorothy has sent some letters to prospective members and
we have some ladies who are interested in joining our group. It
isnt too late to send a letter of invitation to join DKG. They
can come to our January meeting/orientation and learn all about
our organization. Lets share the enthusiasm that we have with
Kappa Phi with other women educators.
In January, we will be honored with the presence of Michelle
Grandinetti our Area 9 Coordinator.
I hope that the New Year brings joy and happiness to all!

See you soon!

NEWS from Celeste:

Our Kappa Phi website has gone through some major updates, and it
has received certification from DKG International. To receive this
certification, the website had to be formatted in a specific way, and it
had to have certain content and links. Because we have a certified
website, it can be accessed directly from the DKG Texas website and
the DKG International website. Be sure to check it out at

www.kappaphitexas.weebly.com.
You might be surprised at what you will find there!

KAPPA PHI CHAPTER
TREASURERS REPORT
November 30, 2014

Exciting News from the December 4th Auction

Eighteen members and six guests attended the December
meeting! I am thrilled to report that I have deposited $1171
into our chapters account which is earmarked for our Grant-inAid fund. This will go a long way in making our Grant-in-Aid
project successful. Pat yourselves on the back for doing a great
job.
Special thanks to those of you who brought guests! It was a
wonderful turnout. Thanks, too, to those of you who padded
your donation. We should also give special recognition to
Charlotte Davis for sending us those marvelous scrubbers she
made and sent for the auction. They went like hotcakes and
many of us will have cleaner abodes. Thanks for the honey,
too.
We were grateful to Susan Lindsay for hosting in her lovely
home. We all know that was a lot of effort on her part and it
showed.
I am hoping that those members who were not able to join
us will want to contribute to the cause. You can do that by
mailing a check to me:
Pat Bielamowicz, 2101 Columbia
Dr. Richardson, TX 75081.

As you can see from the Bank Statement, we had no financial

activity in November. I have received confirmation that our
dues and fees have been paid.
I also wanted to say THANK YOU for helping me
keep track of purchases at the auction by using the
individual envelope system. You cannot imagine
how much it helped me, time wise and accuracy wise. Thanks
to Vicky for helping me come up with the idea, too. I think the
method is here to stay!

Kappa Phi Programs

Our January program is an opportunity to learn
about some of the educational choices that parents
have for their children outside of public schools.
Choices include online schools and charter
schools. It will be held at 6:00 on Jan. 8, 2015, in
the cafeteria at McLaughlin Elementary, whose
principal, DeDe Lacy, has graciously allowed us
to use for the evening.
Members whose last names begin with M-W
are asked to bring a dish to share on this
evening.
Also on this evening, we will have orientation
and be making some Valentines for our teachers
at McLaughlin/Strickland, so pick up an extra bag
of peppermints or gum or chocolate kisses to
decorate our Valentines!
Volunteer Opportunity: Tina Flatt is also in
charge of the UIL Middle School competition,
which will be held on Jan. 15, 2015 at Newman
Smith High school. She is looking for volunteers
who can judge oral speaking competitions that
begin at 5:30 and go to about 7:00. Training and
a light snack is provided at 5:00, so email her if
youd like to come and join the energy of middle
school UIL! Thanks!
Tina Flatt at flattc@cfbisd.edu

Spring notice:
Due to the timing of exhibits at the Meadows
Museum, we will reverse the programs for April
and May. Thanks to our grant in aide committee
for putting their application review process on the
fast track so we can host our grant in aide
recipients at the April meeting.

Dear Area 9,
As I read your newsletters, I am grateful that
I was somehow guided to surround myself with

the world by helping others and modeling admirable
generosity and understanding. Having access to
your newsletters has deepened my perspective on the
depth and breadth of our Society, which the
collective work of its members has achieved.
So my wish for each of you is very simple:
