VOLUME XXXII, ISSUE 4 NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2011

The crisp fall weather has finally arrived at least for some days, and Thanksgiving is right around the corner! Remember that we will NOT have a meeting in November but our December meeting is EARLY in the month Thursday, December 8 beginning at 6:00. The location is Lakeview at Josey Ranch, located at 2105 N Josey Lane , Carrollton, TX 75006. This meeting is Kappa Phi's annual Christmas auction to benefit our Grants-in-Aid project. Please let us know via the Evite invitation if you are coming! The RSVP is really important. It gives members an easy method to respond without having to find the time to call, and it really helps those who are planning the evening. Go ahead and feel free to be creative as you plan your donation for the auction. Suggestions include craft items, baked goods (or the promise to make one for someone when needed), gift cards, gift baskets, etc. If you are not crafty, then consider going to one of the many festivals happening during the next several weeks, buy something that will support that festivals cause, and then donate it to help our cause! Everyone will benefit! If for some reason you cannot attend our December event, then please consider sending your donation with a friend or just send Helen a check! She will graciously credit your donation to our Grants-in-Aid project fund. Also, please read the Evite to find out what you should bring in the way of food some of us will bring appetizers while others will bring sweet treats. Lakeview will provide water, coffee and tea for $2, so be prepared to pay that amount when you arrive. You may also wish to bring some wine if you would like. Finally, please consider inviting a prospective Kappa Phi member to attend this fun holiday get-together. Our auctioneer Nancy will regale us as usual with her antics and we will all have a fun time, plus we will raise money to help deserving graduating seniors who plan to go into teaching. When you have time, please go to the new and improved Texas State Organization website at http:// www.alphastatetexas.org/. There is some wonderful information found there. For example, there is now one page on which are published the various publications from around Alpha State. Now members will be able to find in one convenient location the "Lone Star News," the "Las Colinas Newsette" about the 2012 convention plans, a "Membership Spotlight" and "Technology Tips and Treats." As we all enter the upcoming holiday season, we realize that we all have our own reasons to be thankful. Your co-presidents are very thankful for the Kappa Phi board members support, for all the members who contribute so much to our chapter, and for each time we are able to get together with other key women teachers! It takes all of us to make this chapter run smoothly and we appreciate everyone so much! We look forward to seeing you at our meeting on December 8!!!!

For December we are supporting our very own Grants-In-Aid Auction. However if you did not bring either socks or underwear for the PTA clothes closet, I will cheerfully collect them at the December Meeting. Kappa Phi Member News

Our thoughts and prayers are with Myrtle Watkins and Dorothy Carroll in the passing of Doyle Watkins, Myrtles husband and Dorothys stepfather. Jan Waggoner announced at our October meeting that she and her husband have made the decision to downsize and eventually establish their home base in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Jan resigned as our Kappa Phi copresident, with her final meeting to preside being our December auction. We appreciate your hard work for Kappa Phi, Jan. You will be sorely missed by us and your church, education, and biking communities in CFB. Fortunately, we can continue to keep up with Jan and Fred and their travels and family through e-mail and Facebook.

October Meeting Highlights

Our October meeting was held at The Twisted Spoon Caf on King Arthur in the Castle Hills area. The food was delicious and the meeting space met our needs, so the decision was made to hold our January, April, and May meetings there. We welcomed Susan Marchus into Kappa Phi at her intiation ceremony in October. Susan has been attending meetings with Debbie Moss, and we are glad to have her as a member.

Special guest speaker, Kathy Platt

Welcome to Kappa Phi, Susan!
