VOLUME XXXII, ISSUE 8 MAY 2012

Happy May to all our Kappa Phi sisters! We know so many of you are winding down units and projects for the end of the year, but hopefully you are looking forward to our May meeting. We will get to meet some future educators and celebrate our Founders, too! Jan and I say thank you to you all for the support that our sisters have given us these past two years! We know Kappa Phi will continue to get better and better with the new officers for next year. Thanks to Celeste for another great newsletter; the next edition will have a great recap of the Texas State Convention! Whether you are planning a great vacation or winding down a long career, we wish everyone a happy summer. Out best wishes to all,

Tina and Jan

News from the Personal Growth and Services Committee

For our May Community Service project lets try a double deal of collecting freebies that are taking up drawer space! 1. For the The Recovery Inn Womens Shelter bring excess individually-packaged flatware. The ladies can then use them for sack lunches, etc. 2. Cell phones for Soldiers. If you have old cell phones and/or their accessories that are just taking up space I have located a drop off place that accepts them. (And, of course, well still accept the travel-sized toiletries for The Recovery Inn.) Susan Price, Chairman Thank you, Susan, for your hard work as Personal Growth and Services Committee Chairman! We appreciate you!!

A Note From Vicky

Many thanks to Laura Harbin for stepping up and volunteering to be Professional Affairs Chairman. There are opportunities to step up and to serve our chapter. Thoughtfully consider what YOU can do. Again, if we all do a small part, the big picture will be painted quite clearly. Contact Vicky at bvherr@aol.com if you are willing.

Wanted: New Communications Chairman

Vicky is desperately in need of a newsletter editor. It is not as difficult as you may think, and it can be very rewarding. In previous years, the newsletter requirements (in order to achieve the Five Star Award status) were much more numerous and complicated than the present-day standards. Each issue should have at least two full pages, including a complete header and essential information about the next chapter meeting. You also need to publish five or more issues per year. Thats all there is to it. Many word processing programs contain newsletter templates, but you are welcome to use the one presently in use. It is up to you to make it yours. There will be outstanding workshops at Convention to help you as you develop the newsletter. Also, the Area IX Workshop in September will have a helpful session. The State Communications Chairman is very knowledgeable is will be more than happy to answer your questions and assist you. Also, Celeste will be more than happy to give you any help or advice that you might need. Please consider volunteering for this essential responsibility. See http://www.alphastatetexas.org/pdfs/ communications.newsletter.guidelines.pdf for more information.

Happy Birthday To You!
