2012total,accordingtoCASS.
Massincidentsthatstemmedfromlabordisputeshavealsoincreased,CASSsaid.Mostoftheseprotestsstemmedfromdisputes
overunpaidwages,layoffsandcompensation,workinsuranceandbenefits,amongotherfactors,itadded.
Theacademytracked132masslaborincidentsfromFeb.21toNov.7,ofwhich64wererelatedtowagesandmainlyaffectedthe
construction,garmentandelectronicssectors.Itdidntprovidecomparablefiguresfrom2013.
Laborprotestshavealsogrowninscale.Some52protestsinthefirstninemonthsoftheyearinvolvedmorethan1,000people
each,CASSsaid,citingdatacollatedbytheAllChinaFederationofTradeUnions.
Ofthese,sevenincidentsdrewmorethan5,000participants,includingtwoproteststhatfeaturedcrowdsmorethan10,000strong,
theacademysaid.
TheCASSfindingsdovetailedwithrecentobservationsbyChinaLaborBulletin,aHongKongbasedwatchdog,whichtrackedabig
increaseinworkerprotestsinrecentmonths,partlyfueledbytheconstructionsectorsstruggleswithaslumpinChinasproperty
market.
ThesituationinChinaisinteresting.IalwayshadasensethatlaborrelationsinChinawereworsethantheregimeleton.TheCCPderives
itslegitimacyfromitsabilitytoensureeconomicgrowth.Ifgrowthslowsdownsignificantlyorifthecountrywashitbyamajorrecession,
IthinkwemayseeevenmorelaborunrestinChina.
