Application Checklist
Please have the following items ready BEFORE starting the application process:

A copy of your birth certificate or proof of age in a pdf or jpg file.

A link to your audition performance.* This must be a link to a visual audition, which is unedited,
with clear audio of your playing. The camera should not be stopped between pieces. Audio alone is not
acceptable. This link must be valid through March 13, 2015 and viewable within the United States.

Young Guitarist audition repertoire requirements

A photograph of yourself, head and shoulders preferable, no smaller than 300 dpi and 5x7 inches
(1500x2100 pixels). Please put your name in the name of the file.

A pdf of your current one-page biography or resume.

A credit card for payment of the US$100 non-refundable application free. If you prefer to pay by
check, you will be prompted with that information during the online application process.

If you would like to submit your application by mail with your audition on DVD, please refer
to "How to Apply by Mail" below.

Important Dates

Applications must be RECEIVED by no later than 5:00 PM, PST, Friday, February 6, 2015.

Qualifying competitors will be notified by March 13, 2015

The Parkening Young Guitarist Competition: Tuesday, May 26, and Wednesday, May 27, 2015.

The Parkening International Guitar Competition: Wednesday, May 27, through Saturday May 20,
2015.

General Information
The Parkening International Guitar Competition will be held in Malibu, California, at Pepperdine University
from Wednesday, May 27, to Saturday, May 30, 2015, under the auspices of Pepperdine University. The
Parkening Young Guitarist Competition will take place on Tuesday, May 26, and Wednesday, May 27,
2015.
If you are applying for the Parkening International Guitar Competition, you must have been born on or after
May 26, 1985.
If you are applying for the Parkening Young Guitarist Competition, you must have been born on or after
May 26, 1997. If you are younger than 17 and still wish to apply to the Parkening International Guitar
Competition, you may do so.

If you are a competitor residing outside of the United States, please be reminded that you may require a
visa. We would strongly recommend that you consult your nearest American embassy or consulate for
advice. Pepperdine University and the Parkening International Guitar Competition will not be held
responsible for processing visa documentation.
Please be advised that all travel arrangements are also your responsibility. Pepperdine University and the
Parkening International Guitar Competition will not be held responsible for arranging or booking any form of
travel, international or domestic.
On-campus accommodations will be provided for all 15 competitors of the Parkening International Guitar
Competition and the 10 competitors of the Parkening Young Guitarist Competition. Pepperdine University
and the Parkening International Guitar Competition will not be held responsible for arranging
accommodations for family, chaperones, and/or friends of the competitors. Guitarists ages 17 and under
must be chaperoned by a parent or guardian of the same gender to be housed on campus.
I understand that all awards are subject to applicable taxes.

Accommodations for the competitors will be made available from Sunday, May 24, through Sunday, May
31, 2015. Please arrange your travel arrival and departure within these dates.

All applicants will need to agree to the following:

Agreements

Should I be asked by competition management, I agree to participate in a salon concert in a


private home on the evening of Friday, May 29, for the Parkening International Guitar Competition.
Transportation and hospitality, but no compensation, will be provided.

I understand and accept that, on each day of the competition, the rankings of the competitors will
be determined by the numerical sum of the judges' scores. On the third day of the competition, the finalist
with the highest score will receive the Gold Medal; the next ranking, the Silver Medal, etc. I also
understand that the scores ffrom each day are not cumulative and will not carry forward, except in the case
of a tie.

I understand and accept that the judges' numerical scores will not be published or made public
but remain confidential and that the judges' decision is final and under no circumstance will I, nor anyone
associated with me, contest this decision.

I agree that, if a prize winner of either the Parkening International Guitar Competition or the Young
Guitarist Competition and I wish to publicize my result, I shall mention the specific prize awarded to me.

If I am selected as the winner of the Parkening International Guitar Competition, I agree to


participate in meet-and-greet events with Pepperdine University staff and donors in conjunction with my
public performances from the time of the competition through 2016. These meet-and-greet events will be
scheduled with me or my manager no later than two weeks prior to the event.

I understand that prizes and awards to all the Parkening International Guitar Competition
competitors will be presented at the conclusion of the final concert on Saturday, May 30, 2015, and I will be

present to accept my award. The Parkening Young Guitarist Competition awards ceremony will take place
at the end of the day on Wednesday, May 27, 2015.

I accept that the performance order will be by random drawings for the first two rounds of the
Parkening International Guitar Competition and the Young Guitarist Competition, and that the final round
will be at the discretion of the competition management.

I will perform all pieces from the required repertoire by memory, and will not have sheet music
from which to read. I understand that the judges reserve the right to interrupt a competitor's performance at
any moment. I understand that all rounds of the competition will be presented before a live, paying
audience, and, if selected as one of the three finalists, I will dress appropriately in formal attire.

I understand that English is the primary language of the competition.

I declare that the information given in the foregoing application form is complete and truthful. If accepted as
a participant in the Parkening International Guitar Competition and/or the Parkening Young Guitarist
Competition, I shall abide by the rules and regulations of the competition as set out in the application
process of which this application form is a part. I shall honor all commitments arising from the award.
I hereby grant Pepperdine University, the Parkening International Guitar Competition and/or the Parkening
Young Guitarist Competition, and their respective parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, licensees, and assigns
(collectively, "University") the right, but not obligation, to record in any media and incorporate all or any of
my performance in the Parkening International Guitar Competition and/or the Parkening Young Guitarist
Competition in any manner the University sees fit and to irrevocably use and authorize others to use my
performance in the distribution, sale, marketing, advertising, promotion, exhibition, reproduction and
repurposing of my performance in all markets and media (whether now known or hereafter developed),
throughout the universe, in an unlimited number of times in perpetuity. I will make no claim whatsoever for
any funds which may accrue to the University resulting from the use of my performance.
I agree to hold Pepperdine University, including, but not limited to, its Regents, employees and agents,
harmless from and against any and all costs, expenses, losses, damages, claims, demands, or causes of
action for damage to personal property and/or personal injury which may relate to or arise out of my
participation in the competition, including transportation to and from such competition.
You, as the participant, are therefore urged to secure heath insurance in case of illness or accident, as well
as property insurance for your guitar and other valuables. If you are a non-U.S. citizen, please understand
that there is no national health service; therefore, any and all health costs that are incurred will be a
personal expense to you, the participant, unless other arrangements are made.
By submission of this application, you, as the participant, agree to release Pepperdine University, the
Parkening International Guitar Competition and the Parkening Young Guitarist Competition, and all
attendant personnel from liability.
