traditional TV networks. The untitled series is set to be available
next year in the USA, United

The news comes two days after
Amazon won a pair of Golden

CYBERSECURITY

IMMIGRATION

President Obama has highlighted cybersecurity initiatives this

week as part of a preview of his
State of the Union Address.
House Speaker John Boehner
said hes willing to work with the
president on common-sense
measures.

Obama outlined a series of

executive actions last year that
would delay deportations for
millions of immigrants in the USA
illegally. The House is prepared
to vote on a spending bill that
would roll back those actions.

FREE TRADE

HOMELAND SECURITY

Obama wants the power to

negotiate trade deals and send
them to Congress for an up-ordown vote. Any opposition is
likely to come from congressional Democrats, who worry about
the environmental and labor
impacts of trade deals.

The last Congress passed a bill

funding the Department Homeland Security only through February in an attempt to get leverage
with Obama on immigration.
Obama said hell veto any bill
that restricts his authority on
immigration.

TAX POLICY

KEYSTONE XL

An election-year effort at tax

changes never got off the
ground last year. Obama and
the GOP are in general agreement on corporate tax changes,
although corporate lobbying on
specic provisions could create
battles.

The Canada-to-Nebraska oil

pipeline is a top priority for the
GOP, which says it would create
thousands of jobs. Obama has
threatened a veto, saying congressional approval would shortcut environmental reviews.

Christie
talks N.J.
with eye

State of State a lot
like stump speech
for White House
Martha T. Moore
USA TODAY

Chris Christie used his annual

State of the State speech Tuesday
to review his accomplishments in
ve years as New Jersey governor. A big chunk of his address
could double as a stump speech
aimed at four years in the White
House.
We are a nation beset by anxiety, said Christie, who is considering a 2016 run. Americas
leadership in
the world is
called
into
question
because of a pattern
of
indecision and
inconsistency.
During
this
time of uncerAP
tainty, it seems Christie
our leaders in
Washington
would rather stoke division for
their own political gain.
Christie referred indirectly to
his year as head of the Republican
Governors Association, which
took him out of his home state for
more than 150 days in 2014.
An 82-year-old woman in Vero Beach, Fla. grabbed my hand
tight and said, Whats happened
to our country? We used to control events. Now events control
us, he said. Our people deserve
better than a bloated national
government that imposes costs
on our states which suffocate our
people.
Another hint of his new focus:
Before the speech, Christie met
with reporters, but only those
from national news outlets, ignoring the state media.
Christie vowed to veto any income tax increase, though the
states transportation trust fund
may require a gas tax increase to
replenish. He called public employee pension funding an insatiable beast and noted, Our
problem here in New Jersey is
not that different from Washingtons entitlement problem.
Christie has reportedly signed
on a top fundraiser for a 2016
campaign. In his speech, he said
hed be in the governors job a
year from now, but in a TV interview in December, he conceded
he is thinking beyond his term.
This jobs done for me in three
years, he said. Ive got to decide
what I want to do with the rest of
my life.
