BAM was a killer shark, or at least he used to be. Truth was, he hadnt killed anything since he
was about 8 years old. Now he was just a shark, a big fish really, in a tank at the far end of a quiet park.
(Picture: large Shamu type stadium featuring a large pool, unkempt, grass growing over the sides of the

Page 2
In the early days, during his teenage years, BAM was the biggest draw in the state. His brilliant
teeth shone in billboards all over town, splashing and jumping from gigantic waves high over the roads
leading to the park. There was no bigger star at Wave World than BAMbut that was then, and now
well now things were different.
(Picture: Wave World sign, Closed placardsomething showing it closing from bankruptcy)
Page 3
Now the park BAM had called home for most of his life was closed. No more cheering crowds, no
more bits of popcorn to eat when naughty kids tossed some in to the tank, no more splashing, no more
fresh fish. Now the only visitor BAM, the former killer whale got was a visit from the last custodian still on
the payroll. BAM didnt even know his name, because he never said a word. Every day around 8pm, the
custodian shuffled to the edge of BAMs dirty tank and tossed in a half a bucket of stinking salmon.
(Picture: Rotund custodian smoking, not caring, tossing three measly fish haphazardly into the tank while
on his phone).
Page 4
How long will I be here? Will I get to go home, back to the ocean? I dont even know where my
family is anymore. Can I survive in the great waters alone? How will I make friends?
The great and horrific killer whale BAM did not feel so great. He was a little scared, and wanted
to cry even though he knew no one would notice in the purple waters of his now lonely home. He let
himself sink to the bottom and tried to take a nap, and just before he dozed offa shadow crossed the
surface of the water above him.

(Picture: BAM floats to the bottom of the tank and is sleeping with one eye open looking towards the top
of the tank)

Page 5
WOOOOOSH, BAM pushed off the bottom of the tank with his powerful tail, shooting his body
towards the surface of the water. In one second he was there, the pool was suddenly full of large
splashing wavesand nothing else. BAM looked around for the shadow, for anything, but saw only
empty seats sitting in the darkness beneath a pale white moon.
(Picture 1: BAM shooting to the surface! Picture 2: An empty stadium, the whale floating on top his head
out of the water, and a full moon overheadlonely).
Page 6
The next day the custodian came again. Only this time he just brought two fish. BAM didnt know
how much longer he could eat so little. His stomach was hurting so badly, and his ribs were now starting
to show on the sides of his great body. He swallowed both fish in one gulp and they were gone. And then
it rained fishIT RAINED FISH! Well kind of
(Picture: Two fish come down from the sky and plop into the pool beside the great sharks headhe looks
surprised)
Page 7
one, two, three, the fishes came down and splashed around him, four, five, sixBAM took
them all into his mouth with one gulp. They tasted so good! Fresh! Salty! They tasted like they had
when he was a little kid!
Hello? Whos out there in the darkness?
(Picture: The shark is eating fish as they rain down on himfour or five only)

Page 8
I thought you looked hungry!
A voice came from high up in the empty seats.
Who are you?
BAM looked back and forth his large tale swishing and swashing about. His dark
searching the seats for the voice.
(Picture: A shadow in the seats, the shark tosses about looking puzzled)

eyes

Page 9

Come out so I can see you!

No.
Why not?
You eat things like me. Im not stupid.
What? Are you a fish? I wont eat you. I promise!
Ive heard that one before.
Look, I promise. Im a killer shark yes, but I havent killed in a very long time.
(Picture: The shark pleaded with the shadow)

Page 10
BAM saw the shadow now in the top row of the seats. It was coming towards him, down the
stairs in small jumps. And then he saw her, shining in the moonlight, cautiously coming towards him. The
shark felt his heart thud thud thud deep inside him. She was breathtaking. Hed never seen anything like
her. A womana fish?
What are you?
Im a mermaid silly.
(Picture: We see a picture of Frenchie in the light now, her scales glowing, her short hair waving, BAM
has his mouth wide open.)
Page 11
Oh. Sure. A mermaid. Ya.
Yep. My name is Frenchie.
My name is BAM. I work here.
I know youre name goofball. Everyone knows your name.
They do?
Of course, the whole bay knows your name around here. They are all scared of you.
They are? Why?
(Picture: Frenchie leans on the glass and talks to BAM)

Page 12
Because they hear all the people screaming and know you must be eating them by the
hundreds!
Oh NO! Im not eating people. Those people come to see me do tricks, like flips and splashes
and stuff. They arent afraid of me. Well, they might be, but I wouldnt hurt them.
Really? Oh, well thats kinda boring. I like a little danger, thats why I snuck in to see you. You
look dangerous.

(Picture: The mermaid has a thought bubble and it shows BAM eating loads of children. BAM has a
thought bubble and the crowd is cheering for his flips)

Page 13

The next morning BAM woke to six tiny splashes at the top of his tank. Fish. Frenchie!
Again he exploded to the top of the tank, only this time he did a flip high in the air like he used to
when the seats were full of cheering fans.
Wow! Frenchie clapped, a smile on her face as big anything BAM could do even with his
enormous mouth and teeth.
You have an amazing smile! Thank you for the fish, Im so glad you come to see me.
Keep doing flips and Ill come every day!
(Picture: BAM doing a flip, Frenchie clapping.)

Page 14
And so it was that an odd friendship was born in the killer shark tank of an abandonded water
park. Everyday Frenchie brought fish to her hungry friend, and every day BAM performed for her. She
clapped and clapped, as he splished and splashed. Neither one had ever been so happy.
(Picture: Frenchie looks over the rail of the shark tank, as BAM does his tricks)

Page 15
On particular day, Frenchie arrived with fish for BAM but did not find him on the surface waiting
for her. Instead she saw his dark form lying motionless on the bottom of the pools floor. She tossed a
few fish in to see if he would respond as he always did. When he did not, she jumped into the pool and
swam to him.
BAM? Are you ok? She said, running her hand over his great nose.
Not really. Some men came by the pool last night.
Oh? What kind of men?
Men in suits. I could hear them talking. Their going to move me Frenchie.
Move you where?
To another water park I guess.

Page 16
When? Frenchie said quietly.
Soon.
Oh. Thatll be sad. I was just really getting to know you. Ive never known a shark like you.
Thats sweet of you to say. Ill miss you terribly.
(Picture: Frenchie and BAM at the bottom of the tank talkingFrenchies hand is on BAMs head)

Page 17
Two days passed and Frenchie did not come to the water tank. The custodian tossed in his
measly fish, and the suits took measurments. The great killer shark did not make it easy on them.
(Picture: Suited men measuring BAM to move himchecking clip boards, talking on cell phones, BAM
bearing his teeth at the men.)

Page 18

Psssst.BAM. WAKE UP!

The great shark sleeping in the dark blue waters of his home opened one eye but saw nothing.
WAKE UP!
Dreary eyed BAM let himself float to the surface of the water and there beneath a starry sky he
saw Frenchie, her scales glistening in the moonlight.
Frenchie! I thought youd never come back!
Silly shark. Im your friend. Of course Id come back.
(Picture: Shark sleeping, one eye opening .Frenchie in the darkness, her scales shining).

Page 19.

Their taking me away from here Frenchie.

I know. I have a plan though.
A plan for what?
To get you OUT!
Well even if you could? Where would I go?
Do you like me BAM? Dont you like our time together?
More than anything. Its the only thing that I look forward to everyday.
(Picture: BAM looking at FrenchieFrenchie pointing to the sea, just beyond the great tank.)

Page 20.
Me too. The ocean is such a huge place, I get lonely. I dont want to be alone anymore.
Well I live in tanks like this, and you live in the ocean, so well always live apart.
The ocean is your home too BAM. Thats youre real home. Why dont you just come home with
me?
I want to so badly. Whats your plan?
(Picture: This picture can be of the ocean and how much fun it isFrenchie and BAM can be in the
bottom corner perhapsdreaming of how their days outside the water park might be someday)
Page 21
Tomorrow, I want you to get on the opposite side of the tank, away from the outside wall that
leads to the sea. Stay there until I come for you.
Ok I will, but I dont understand.
Shush. Trust me. Im your friend. I love you.
The great shark was looking towards the sea when he heard the words. He spun around in the
water with his tail but it was too late. Frenchie was gone already.
She loves me?
(Picture: This might be a far away shot of the moon, the stadium, of the great shark looking for his
friendand the words She loves me? coming from his head)

Page 22
The next day BAM woke early and swam directly to the wall on the opposite side of the tank,
away from the sea. He knew the walls were thick, very very thick because hed run into them
hard before and they did not crumble. He wondered if Frenchie knew just how thick they were.
He trusted her, but inside his large shark body, and behind his great pointed teeth, he was
scared.
(Picture: BAM rests against the wall of the tank and waits)

Page 23
At noon the custodian showed up early, only this time he brought more suits and BAM could tell
something bad was up. One of the men had a long pointed thing, and one by one the custodian
tried to get BAM to the top of the water for fish. Only the shark knew it wasnt only fish they
wanted to give him.
All of the sudden the custodian stopped throwing fish. BAM could see the suits looking out into
the sea but he could not tell what they were looking at.
(Picture: The men in suits and the custodian are fearful of something out at seathey are pointing)
Page 24

A loud horn could be heard all over the park. BAM heard it, the suits heard it, and the custodian
started to run.
BUUUUURRRRRNNNNNTTTT! Went the horn blast.
BUUUUURRRRRNNNNNTTTT! The horn sounded much closer now.
The men in the suits started to run, and as they did BAM began to notice something very
peculiear. Water, waves actually, started coming into his tank from the sea outside. Something
very big was coming, BAM could hear it underwater.
(Picture: Im not sure what this picture would be, but it could be a small clue about whats coming towards
the tank from the sea [a tug boat]perhaps the top half of the great ship but not all of it?)
Page 25

Then she appeared soaring over the wall, from the sea, high in the air vaulting over the outside
wall and into BAMs tank. Frenchie looked frightened and out of breath.
Dive to the bottom, dive, dive! Its coming!
Frenchie and BAM both dove together, side by side when all the sudden the great walls of the
Wave World killer shark tank came crashing down on one side.
IT WAS A BOAT! A TREMENDOUS BOAT! CRASHING AND SMASHING ITS WAY THROUGH
THE OUTSIDE WALL!!!
(Picture: This is the great climactic picture of the book. An impossibly big ship comes crashing through
the outside wall of the shark tank)

Page 26
SWOOSH! Suddenly all of the water rushed from the tank and into the sea.
Out they went, around the ship through the hole now so big they could easily fit, both of them
together.
The suits were screaming. The custodian waved, and the great tank at Wave World was now as
royal blue as the sea outside it.
And with that, they were free. Free to roam, free to explore, and free to be together forever.
(Picture: Shows the two of them escaping around the ship and out into the sea?)
Page 27

Im hungry.
Youre in the ocean now, killer. You can eat whenever and whatever you want.
I love you Frenchie. Thank you for saving me.
I love you too BAM. Youre my greatest friend, and you always will be.
Forever?
Yes. Always and Forever.
