Chapter II

Methodology
This section includes descriptions of sources of data,
locale of the study, the data-gathering procedure, data-gathering
instrument or instrument used, and the statistical treatment(s)
applied.

A. Subject of the Study

The two-pesticide sprayer (commercial and experimental)
will be the variable that would undergo observations. They will
be

subjected

on

an

experiment,

which

would

test

their

abilities, and to know which of the two is better and convenient.

B. Locale of the Study

The construction of the device will be at Sta. Lucia,
Pagadian City and at Lower Lumbia, Pagadian City. Then, it will
be tested at Zamboanga del Sur National High School - main campus
in front of the vermi house. The study was conducted at Zamboanga
del Sur National High School.

C. Research Design
This study employed the two-group which compares the
commercial

pesticide

sprayer

and

the

experimental

pesticide

sprayer. The two treatments were replicated twice in the conduct

of the study.
The table below will show the layout of the design

D. Data-Gathering Instrument
The researchers will do an experimentation comparing
the

automatic

pesticide

sprayer

and

the

commercial

pesticide

sprayer in terms of time duration of spraying the rice field in

specific measure of area, the researchers tests the automatic
pesticidesprayer in 3 specific measure of areas and measure the
time it takes to finish spraying the rice fields same test will
happen in testing the manual pesticide sprayer.
Since, time duration of the application of pesticide in
crops was one of the problems of the research; the researchers
will make use of a timer/watch in recording the time durations
and

steel

pesticide

tape

(commercial

and

experimental). Then, the researchers will record the results in a

table.

E. Data-Gathering Procedure
All the materials that will be used in making of the
product are: junk tank pesticide, 5

male adaptors ( inch) ,

spray nozzle, hose coupling( inch) , ball valve ( inch) , hose

( inch) , PVC solvent cement, plain sheet metal (16 or 18

gauge), tire valve. First, make two holes at the bottom left and
at the upper right part of the pesticide tank that is capable for
the male adaptor. At the bottom hole, attach the male adaptor
together with the hose and trigger. In inserting the male adaptor
at the hole, use the epoxy so that the water will not get out.
Moreover, for connecting the hose and the male adaptor use the
PVC solvent cement to hold it strong. For the air tank, the
researchers had surveyed a blacksmith shop to where the tank must
be weld 16 inch in height and 5 inch in diameter, at the bottom
of the tank, attach the tire valve, and make a hole to attach the
male adapter with the hose. Next, for the hose, attach the ball
valve to secure the air or to adjust the air being released by
the tank. After that, append the hose coupling for the tank to
attach

or

detach

in

order

to

change

the

air

tank

with

the

refilled one.
In testing the device it will be brought in the vacant
lot in front of the vermi house. Researchers will use the timer
to record the time it takes in spraying the field. And measure
the area using steel tape.

E. Statistical Tools Used

The data were processed step by step by the researchers
to

determine

the

difference

between

the

automatic

pesticide

sprayer and the manual pesticide sprayer. The data gathered were
analyzed using the t-test to compare the time duration of the two
materials.
