EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE

A very good afternoon to our beloved lecturer, Miss Aisha Goh and my fellow
friends. I am glad to be given the oppoturnity to give a speech all of you. Im going to talk
about an ebola virus disease.
Ebola is a disease of humans and other primates caused by an ebola virus.
Symptoms start two days to three weeks after contracting the virus, with a fever, sore
throat, muscle pain and headaches. Typically, vomiting, diarrhea and rash follow, along
with decreased functioning of the liver and kidneys. Around this time, affected people
may begin to bleed both within the body and externally. Nigeria's first case of Ebola,
confirmed in July in the teeming city of Lagos, was a wake-up call.
From first articles that I read, the Ebola virus disease outbreak in Guinea, Liberia,
and Sierra Leone has grown so large and severe primarily because these countries are
among the world's poorest. Poverty, dysfunctional health systems, and fear remain
formidable obstacles to ending the outbreak. Only one or two doctors are available for
every 100,000 people, and these doctors are heavily concentrated in urban areas.
Medical staff also are getting infected even though they are trained and protected. So,
they refuse to come to work, fearing for their lives. Therefore , their most urgent request
is for more medical staff. Staff needs are high. According to current estimates, a facility
treating 70 patients needs at least 250 health care workers.
From second article that I read, President Obama announced Tuesday an
expansion of military and medical resources to combat the outbreak. He said that the
United States would help Liberia in the construction of as many as 17 Ebola treatment
centers in the region, with about 1,700 beds, and will also open a joint command
operation to coordinate the international effort to combat the disease. The American
response will include the deployment of some 3,000 American military personnel,
including doctors, to Liberia and Senegal.
Furthermore from third article that I read, all public and private hospitals and
clinics nationwide have been put on high alert for Ebola, one of the world's most virulent
diseases. Director-General of Health Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said although no
Ebola case has been reported in Malaysia, the ministry is on high alert due to cases
being reported in other countries. Many nations have warned their citizens against
travelling to West Africa. Those who travelled from countries reporting Ebola cases, with
symptoms of the disease and notify the authorities concerned immediately.
Ebola virus is an anxiety by threatening great harm to humans. This virus
spreading very fast in West Africa. As well know Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone are

among the poorest in the world in health system, economic, education and extra. In this
situation these countries urgently need help from other countries to control the virus
infection. To lend support to West Africa, US ramps up response to Ebola crisis. In my
point of view other rich countries also give some contributes to save West Africa of
virus. As precaution, Malaysians must be aware of the disease and do medical cheak
up frequently. Eventhough, the disease heavent attack to our country.
As a conclusion, every agencies of health all over the world should work together
in order to curb this hazardous ebola which currently kill most of the innocent human.
