Summary of Permata-Batu Badinding-Hulubai

Structural Development
PBH represents a series of dilational structures developed
in basin fill volcanic cover over a competent basement.
Progressive movement on basement structures has given
rise to the progressive development of dilatant cover
structures.
Is this reflected in the evolution of the hydrothermal
system?

Conclusions
A constantly evolving system in four dimensions;
structurally and hydrothermally
Vein paragenesis reflects the geochemical and
structural evolution of the hydrothermal system
Volcanics and sediments deposited in basins developed
over basement shear structures
Progressive movement on basement structures facilitated
the development of Reidel style tensional veins

CODES: AMIRA P588 July 2001 Meeting

33

Conclusions
Progressive opening of the structure focuses fluid flow and
maintains the open conduit
Recharge and collapse areas are represented by phengite
and carbonate alteration
One main fluid upflow structure with a large fluid recharge
area
Late carbonate represents draw down of fluid due to
venturi effects and/or the waning of the hydrothermal
system
CODES: AMIRA P588 July 2001 Meeting

34

Implications
Transverse shear structures in basement can give rise to dilatory
structures in cover sequences
Basin areas had a significant amount of water associated with them
Areas of carbonate veining and alteration represent the footprint
recharge area of a hydrothermal system
Fluid is drawn along and alters more permeable or reactive layers
providing a vector to major upflow structures
Vein paragenesis gives an insight into the maturity of the
hydrothermal system

carbonate
