End of Q3 Reflections

End of quimester reflections may take many forms, as outlined below.

Regardless of which type of reflection you have chosen, the reflections
must be submitted to the CAS coordinator by the deadline detailed on the
year 13 instruction sheet. Whichever form of reflection you choose, you
should try to address the questions outlined on this form.

What did you plan to do this quimester?
For this quimester I planned to participate in two extracurricular activities,
which were being part of the school band and also playing for the senior
boys football team once a week. Seeing that I enjoy football a lot, I also
planned to stay afterschool on Fridays to social football, in which anyone
from secondary can take part and play. Helping out with the management
of the house competition and stand in as referee for the planned activities
was also something I planned. Finally, I planned to play a leadership role
in my CAS Environment group, particularly in the organization and
carrying out of the field trips with the rest of the group.
What did you do?
The school band extracurricular stopped happening, seeing that there
werent any events to take part in and play, so the band stopped getting
together. The football extracurricular turned out to be the opposite, with
Mr. Storey extended it to twice a week. Wednesdays was allocated to
training and technique, whilst Thursdays was usually just a match, with
small tweaks. As for refereeing house games, I volunteered to be a referee
whenever I wasnt playing for my house, Antisana. Furthermore, we
helped with along with other students to move the equipment around
according to activities in which they were needed before the competitions
started. Apart from spending 3-4 classes in school organizing the field
trips and even carrying out a bake sale in break and lunchtime, we went
out as a group on another 2 field trips. On one we went back to the
vivero we visited in Q2, were we organized lunch for the local workers
and helped with filling bags with fertilized soil. On the next trip we
travelled to a community located in the nearby hill, Ilalo, and proceeded
to plant the seeds we had grown in our own seed nursery, as well as some
we were given at the vivero.

What do you think about the activities you completed this

quimester?
They were all round similar to the activities that I took part in last partial,
although there was definitely a larger focus on playing football and also a
greater involvement with my CAS Environment group. Not only was the
group more organized as a result of better leadership on behalf of senior
students, but more things were achieved, including a bake sale which was
a success. I feel like I got more involved and showed more interest, and in
turn this made the whole process more enjoyable and satisfying once I say
the work I put in into organizing it paid off. We even took a less prepared
group who hadnt planned for a trip along with us on our visit to Ilalo, and
still managed everything well and in time.
What feelings arose during the activities completed this
quimester?
Satisfaction is the main feeling that I can think of when I think about the
CAS Environment group. I put in more effort in than the last partial and it
was rewarding to see the effects of our groups work. I also felt a greater
sense of comradeship and unity with my football team, given that once we
started playing more regularly together we started to understand each
other more and play better as a team. This showed in competitions, where
our strength of character and unity enabled us to come back many a time,
even playing away from home.
What were the outcomes of the activities you completed, for
yourself?
Having finished the activities for this partial, I feel like I understand how to
work as a team better, as a result of the football. I also feel as though I
have learnt to manage other people better, especially younger kinds,
when being put in charge of a long-term activity. My strength of character
was also tested when I stepped in as referee and I learnt to be confident in
my decisions once they were made.
What were the outcomes of the activities you completed, for
others?
The number of small saplings that we ended up planting at Ilalo was
around 400, counting seeds we grew in our nursery and those supplied by
the vivero. These saplings, if given the right conditions, will grow to
represent a large population of pencos, a native species to the area. In
the organizing of the house sport, Mr. Hubert had less of a burden this
time around, by being given help not only for the refereeing but also for
the setting up of the activities. In our football team, we also started to
play better together, and as a result we took it more seriously and won a
lot of our games with other schools.
Was there value for the school or the wider/ global community
from any activities? Explain.
The restoration of one of the native species in our nearby community was
largely beneficial, ensuring the conservation of our heritage and culture.
The school was also better represented domestically in competitions,
thanks to a better showing of our football team.

How will you proceed next quimester? Which activities will you
continue with? Why? Which will you not continue with? Why? Are
there any areas of growth you wish to focus on next quimester?
Unfortunately, this will be the last quimestre that I take part in at school
before taking my IB exams and graduating, so I dont really have plans for
CAS in the future.
