Essay Directions: Briefly explain the following. Choose 3.

a) Socio-cultural Aspect of Curriculum

Sociocultural approaches emphasize the interdependence of
social and individual processes in the co-construction of our
knowledge. The role played by culture and language in human
development is an essential aspect in education. Surveying
sociocultural research on and applications to classroom learning and
teaching are relevant, particularly that which examines the role of
collaboration. In an academic environment ,I observed that the skill
that best interprets the sociocultural approaches is an active
participation of the people that are engaged in it. Development as
the transformation of socially shared activities into internalized
processes. The more activities engaged or issues brought into a
social and cultural circle, the more ideas are pooled in and thus an
improvement in the academic post in which I belong.
b) The Importance of Curriculum Change
There is always room for improvement, change and adaptation in any
situation. Shifting the content and strategies of instruction is frequently
vital to a shift to schooling for sustainability. Obviously, large-scale
curricular change doesnt happen overnight. It is an evolving process
that usually requires the engagement of a significant portion of the
faculty, professional development, and planning time. And that means
as an educator, I and millions of all the other teachers in the world
need to engage in it too. Taking curriculum change to a school-wide
level then requires involving as many members of the faculty as
possible.
In order to initiate a change process, seeing a sense of direction is
entirely important. One effective way to begin developing a collective
direction is for a small faculty team to start with the end in mind. I
begin to gain a new perspective of the importance of the academic
environment and the rules to be looked over again and see if they
catch up with what is novel. I might articulate a few possible goals, as
well as suggest an end product.

c) Traditional vs. Progressivist Point of View of Curriculum

It is always easy to cling to what is familiar. If I am familiar with a type
of product because I have used it for a long time, then I see no reason
to patronize another. However, evolutions and remodelling did not
happen without any risks, a thing that not many of us would take.
In order to have a successful curriculum revision, we educators must
undergo; determining what these needs are; and how to address them. I view
it as a tedious task, especially if there isnt a lot of planning involved and a
half-hearted motivation to complete the task. And what happens is not doing
it at all, thus sticking to the original curriculum again. I believe this type of
curriculum POV is characterized by a very conventional and orthodox running
of education, no new concepts integration at all. A progressivist point of
view, on the other hand, shows a demand for change to meet the needs of a
2lst century educational program. It is challenging for the best educational
leaders to come up of a strategy that aims to produce students capable of
the new demands of time, hence I can say that this POV is characterized by a
flexible system, an always in flux rule to adjust what is needed and when it is
needed.
