Introduction
A boiler and the necessary
installations should be carried
out by professional.
In order to install and operate the boiler properly, study this manual thoroughly. A long life and faultless performance of this appliance depends mainly on its proper installation and operation.
EKCO.L1z / EKCO.L1Nz is suitable for central heating system that use the water or antifreeze solution as the
medium carrying heat. A power of boiler should be matched with heat loss of a given building.

While calculating demand for thermal energy, a number of factors needs to be taken into consideration:
building cubature
value of heat transfer through the walls, windows and ceilings
level of room ventilation
heat accumulation
The EKCO.L1z / EKCO.L1Nz is a low temperature boiler intended for unvented or vented central heating systems with forced circulation (protected according to legally binding norms). The boiler features automatic work
control and low maintenance requirements.

a wet central heating system must be flushed out before boiler installation;
do not install any barrier fittings (e.g. valves) on the outlet of the safety valve [4] (fig.1, 2);
this appliance must not be installed in a humid place or in a place exposed to the danger of explosion;
this appliance must be protected by filter with magnetic insert (included in the boiler kit).
A magnetic filter must be installed on return pipe of central heating installation system
(before boiler inlet). The filter must be installed in horizontal position, accordingly to flow
direction (see arrow on the filter body), with the magnetic insert chamber to the bottom.
The EKCO.L1N is equipped with an expansion vessel (capacity: 6l, pressure: 1,5 bar). The expansion vessel is
sufficient against the following capacities of the heating system at given temperatures of the medium and central
heating system pressure.
Shall the capacity of the wet central heating installation be larger, an extra expansion vessel should be installed on it.

Installation
1. Hang the boiler up in a vertical position on fixing screws with inlet and outlet pipes to the bottom, maintaining clearances from the walls and the ceiling (fig.4).
2. Connect the boiler to a central heating system equipped with cut-off valves (fig.3).
3. Fill the central heating system with a treated water that substantially extends the life of the heating elements.

! Electric installation
should be equipped with residual current protective devices
and other solutions which will
ensure disconnecting the heater
from the source of power (intervals between all their poles
should not be less than 3 mm).
Attention: 4, 6 and 8kW boilers
are factory preset to work as
single phase boilers [figure 5b].
If you intend to connect the
boiler to a three-phase installation, take off the [15] wire set.

Room thermostat (RP entry) when the voltage free contact gets
opened the boiler will stop heating.
The entry is responsible for boiler
control depending on the room temperature. It is described in section
INSTALLATION, (page 10).
WE-008 Cylinder water temperature sensor (Tzas entry) please,
refer to fig. 7 to see how to connect
it to the boiler. Attention, make sure
that the white wire is + and the yellow wire is -. It will not work if you
connect it the other way round. If it is
necessary, you can extend the wires,
however, please remember that the
shorter the wires the better. If the wire
11
is too long there may occur disturbances and it may not work properly. The wires should not run close to mains
cables, they must not go around other electric wires.
Cylinder thermostat (Tzas entry) a voltage free entry. When the Tzas entry is closed, the boiler will switch
over to heat the cylinder.
Three-way valve control (ZAS) Kospel SA suggests using VCZMH600E valve manufactured by Honeywell with
a motor operator VC6012ZZ00 and a wire 45900445-013B. The three-way valve control is performed by applying
230V on the brown wire or the black wire (blue is the neutral wire). Voltage on the valve through the brown wire
will switch the valve to a position, where the pass between the AB inlet and the B outlet gets opened. Shall
voltage be passed to the black wire, the valve will get switched to a position in which the channel between the
AB inlet and the A outlet will be opened. The AB inlet and the A and B outlets are marked on the valve.
The entry A is to supply the central heating system and the entry B is to supply the cylinder as shown in fig.7
Master appliance (NA entry) you can limit the power used, i.e. the boiler can be switched off while another
appliance consumes electricity. To do it, an electrician should install in line an extra open contact in to the NA
entry (voltage free entry), so that when a master appliance gets on, the contact will be opened the boiler switched
off. When the NA contact gets opened, heating will get off and the pump stopped. The EKCO boiler may also work
as the second boiler. If it is so, the master boiler by opening the NA entry will stop heating of EKCO. However,
the mode of the three-way valve control stays on so a cylinder is charged by the heat from the master boiler.
Radio module MR there is also an option of a room thermostat that can control the boiler with a radio
signal. If this is your wish, you should install a radio module (receiver) as shown in figure 7. Next, take the aerial
out through the opening at the back of the boiler cover. After the module is installed, make sure that it works by
observing two (2) control lamps on the receiving module:
a) insert batteries into the transmitter (sender) and allow 5 minutes for synchronizing with the receiver,
b) make sure that the transmitter is within the radius of 20 m from the receiver,
c) observe the green control lamp that informs about receiving the signal, it is on for 1s at 1 minute intervals.
Incorrect work of the radio system may be caused by the following reasons:
a) too long a distance between the transmitter an the receiver, it works up to 20 m in horizontal distance and
within adjacent floors vertically,
b) batteries are not charged up,
c) improperly installed aerial, for example within the boiler,
d) damaged aerial wire.

Summer mode
If you short press the
button , the summer mode will be set ( when
you set from winter to summer mode). In this mode the three-way valve
directs the water (medium) to the coil inside the hot water cylinder only. The summer mode should be used
after the heating season.
If the WE-008 sensor for temperature measurement in hot water cylinder is applied ( connected to the Tzas
entry on the ZIO board) pressing the
button allows to set temperature.
If the thermostat for temperature measurement in hot water cylinder is applied (connected to the WZ entry on
the ZIO board) , the temperature setting on front panel is not available ( the panel shows --). Setting is performed
directly on the hot water cylinder thermostat.
In this mode the
button is inactive. Checking the inlet and outlet water temp., flow rate and power is not
available. To switch to winter mode press
