April 25, 2015

Dear Alumni, Colleagues, Friends and Supporters,
We would like to wish you a warm welcome to our Blue and Gold Dinner and Dance 2015. I
would also want to acknowledge the presence of the UERM AFUSA who is joining us tonight.
The UERMMMC Alumni Association MARVADC Chapter is celebrating its 25th anniversary
this year. Our chapter has history of trailblazing leadership not only in the national alumni
organization but also in its involvement in our Alma Mater. My administration hopes to live up
to this tradition.
Since 2005, the MARVADC chapter has championed the Young Alumni Development Program,
a program which mentors young Philippine medical graduates in their transition to the American
healthcare system. In its 10th year, the program espouses a culture of guidance and advice for the
young and recognition of the collective wisdom of the generations of UERM graduates who
forged the path before them. This program has reinvigorated our alumni organization by
strengthening the bonds that connects all of us across time: our honor and love for the practice of
medicine and the alma mater that made it possible
Part of the funds raised during this event will be used to fund the YADP. While part of the funds
will also be appropriated to two new projects: the MARVADC Scholarship Fund and the
MARVADC Basic Science Faculty Development Fund
Thank you for coming and lets leap into spring with a great night of dancing and camaraderie!

Warm Regards,
Nathalie Bernabe Quion MD MPH

OFFICE OF THE DEAN

COLLEGE OF MEDICINE

MESSAGE
My warmest greetings and felicitations to the officers, the alumni and the
guests of the UERMMMC Medical Alumni Association of America, Inc.
MARVADC Chapter as you gather to celebrate the Blue and Gold Spring Dinner
and Dance at the Bethesda Marriott for a meaningful purpose.
I commend our dedicated alumni for their unwavering commitment and
unrelenting support to the Young Alumni Development Program that aims to
mentor our your medical graduates in their transition to the US health care
system. Many of them have benefited from this unique program initiated by the
MARVADC Chapter.
I look forward to the coming into fruition of your Basic Science
Development project for the College. This will be an added incentive to the
faculty.
Your invaluable contributions and continued support to your Alma Mater
are recognized and sincerely appreciated. May our partnership be strengthened
as we continue to invest in sustaining our shared goals.
Your noble efforts in offering your charitable health care services
especially among the underserved people in the community are laudable. May
your tribe increase.
I wish you all a successful and memorable event.
Mabuhay!

ALFARETTA LUISA T. REYES, M.D.

Dean, College of Medicine

MESSAGE
Mabuhay to the UERM Medical Alumni MARVADC Chapters officers and
members. I am pleased to have the honor to send you warm greetings for the
slated Blue & Gold Dinner Dance scheduled on April 25, 2015 at the Pooks Hill
Marriott in Bethesda, Maryland.
This event brings together former colleagues to update themselves in
leadership to keep them abreast in fulfilling their role in strengthening healthcare
system. It is also a meeting point for knowledge transfer and networking among
physicians.
This occasion promises to reconnect fellow classmates, new friendship
and share fond memories. It is also a great opportunity to hear about the work
your organization is doing on behalf of our Alma Mater. It is my hope that the ties
that bind you to your Alma Mater will intensify more and we shall continue to
work together.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the UERMMMCI Community,I wish
you all have a wonderful reunion and a successful fund raising campaign. More
power and God bless!

MESSAGE

We at the UERMMMC-MAAAI and as President for the year 2014-2016 salute

and congratulate MARVA-DC UERMMMC-MAAAI chapter, its president, officers and
members for taking extra-mile to raise funds for the Young Alumni Development
Program---YADP.
As graduates of UERMMMC, we have shared goal and aspirations to succeed in
our given profession. Given the difficulties presently facing us, however uncomfortable it
makes us feel to organize, all of us in this modern society would depend on one another
for economic survival. It is indeed a struggle as foreign medical graduates to break into
the medical community abroad. Let us then assuage and extend assistance to our young
alumni to make this transition period, if you will, less painful and traumatic, for them to
continue their post-doctoral training to prefer them in the future.
Thank you MARVA-DC for your robust program to help these young alumni
pursue their dreams and aspirations to further their medical profession.

UERM MARVADC Young Alumni Development Program

The UERM Young Alumni Development Program (YADP) is a project of the UERMMMC Alumni
Association in America Maryland Virginia Washington DC Chapter. It started in 2005, when it mentored 4
recent graduates from UERM and has since then supported over 100 Philippine medical graduates. They
have landed in training programs in Dartmouth, Harvard, U of California, U of Connecticut, VCU etc. The
program bridges the gap in Philippine and American medical training. This is done through the Young
Alumni Mentorship that partners applicants with senior and junior mentors, provides technical guidance,
clinical experiences, opportunities for networking and mock interviews. UERM YADP also sponsors the
Young Alumni Travel Grant (YATG), a competitive grant that allows UERM graduates opportunities to
present their research at the annual alumni convention and reunion.
The committee is comprised of senior academicians and clinicians and a growing pool of young mentors.
These young mentors are successful participants of the program who themselves create a support network
for the incoming recent medical graduates.

THE STAR-SPANGLED BANNER

O say, can you see by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd
At the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars,
Thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd,
Were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare,
The bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night
That our flag was still there.
O say, does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

LUPANG HINIRANG
Tagumpay na nagniningning;
Ang bituin at araw niya
Kailan pa ma'y di magdidilim.
Lupa ng araw, ng luwalhati't pagsinta,
Buhay ay langit sa piling mo;
Aming ligaya na pag may mang-aapi
Ang mamatay nang dahil sa iyo.

UERMMMC HYMN
(Eleazar O. Sarmiento, M.D. Class 64)

Oh! UERM Medical Center

Our banners wave high for Thee
For all that we are and all we have
We owe to God and Thee.
The Mighty One we now implore
To make our goal and purpose pure
That we may serve our God and land
And all humanity!
As we dwell in these pavilions
Keep in our hearts the needy millions
In rugged mountains, in vast plains
The call for us remains.
Help us bear the strain of learning
And all our hearts and efforts giving
And let us work not for selfish gain
Nor this great cause disdain.
Oh UERM Medical Center
Gods blessing be on Thee!

Cristina is the cream of the crop. It is one thing to show a house but
Cristina provides advice and guidance with respect to the market,
potential value for your investment and the realm of possibilities for
modifications you are considering. She listens to everyone's opinions and
concerns and boils it down to constructive discussion. Cristina was also
critical through the negotiation strategy to get the house we wanted. We
highly recommend Cristina.
