New York is the most populous city in the United States with a population of
8.175.133 people. New York exerts a significant impact upon global commerce,
finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, entertainment and is
an important center for international affairs. This city is considered the cultural
capital of the world. As many as 800 languages are spoken in New York, making it
the most linguistically diverse city in the world, because there are many people from
other countries.
The city of New York is an important center for music, film, theater,
dance and visual art.
The culture of New York City is reflected by the city's size and variety and many
American cultural movements first emerged in this city. The city is the birthplace of
many cultural movements, including the Harlem Renaissance in literature, visual
