10.0 GALVANIZING
For surfaces where galvanizing is specified, all galvanizing shall be carried out by the hot dip
process, and unless otherwise specified shall conform in all respects to BS 729.
The detailed design of members shall be in accordance with BS 4479.

11.0 PAINTING SYSTEMS


The following painting specification (Systems) are valid for the different purposes.
11.1 System No.1 : Structural steel- internal & external exposure.
At Works
Surface preparation:

Blasting according to ISO8501 / ASTM-D 2200


Grade: SA 2.5

Prefabrication
Prime coat:

Inorganic ethyl zinc silicate


Dry film thickness 80 microns

Intermediate coat

Epoxy polyamide

Aliphatic Polyurethane finish

Pre-treatment:

Thorough cleaning to remove oil, grease, dirt and any

When airless spray application is not possible, 2 coats of epoxy polyamide cured finish can be

Carbon steel surfaces, not insulated, indoors, such as air ducts, pipes, condensers, tanks and

Tanks for light oil or diesel oil, internal surface, bottom and 1meter from bottom, roof and
1.5meters from the edge of roof.

Blasting according to ISO8501 / ASTM-D 2200
Grade: SA 2.5

Finish coat:

2 coats of phenolic epoxy


Dry film thickness 125 microns each

Note:
For field erection tank, above painting system shall be applied at site.
The tank supplier can use a prefabrication with weldable inorganic ethyl zinc silicate / epoxy
shop-primer after blasting to Grade SA 2.5 at works.
Dry film thickness 20-25 microns.
Shop-primer must be sweep-blasted at site and welding seams must be blasted according to
ISO8501 / ASTM-D 2200 before applying the prime coat.

11.7 System No.7 : Tanks, Interior Water


Tanks for industrial, desalinated, deionized, demineralized and potable water
Temperature up to 60 oC , pH range: 4.5 - 9.5

Solvent free epoxy tank lining

Note:
For field erection tank, above painting system shall be applied at site.

Interior of penstocks and manifolds

Interior of cooling water pipes and piping

Interior of vessels and tanks

Temperature up to 60 oC

other contaminants
To obtain min. 25 microns anchor profile sweep blast
surface.
If sweep blasting is not practicable, the surface should be
etched.

Prime coat:

epoxy polyamide
Dry film thickness 50 microns

Finish coat:

aliphatic polyurethane
Dry film thickness 50 microns.

Total system dry film thickness 100 microns.

11.10 System No.10 : Aluminum and Stainless Steel Surfaces(No paint is applied, if otherwised)
Aluminum and stainless steel surfaces, requiring paint finish.
Temperature up to 120 oC
At Site
Pre-treatment:

Thorough cleaning to remove oil, grease, dirt and any


other contaminants.

Prime coat:

epoxy polyamide.

Ultra high build epoxy.

At Site
Pre-treatment:

Clean uncoated areas to remove oil, grease, weld slag and


loose dirt.
Grade : ST3

Finish coat:

Ultra high build epoxy.


Dry film thickness 800 microns each.

11.12 System No.12 : Electrical equipment


Equipment - such as control and relay panel, switchgear, motor control center, distribution
boxes.
At Works
Pre-treatment:

Removal of oil, grease, dirt, soil, salts and contaminants by cleaning


with solvent, vapor, alkali, emulsion or steam
Water cleaning and drying

Finish coat:

Powder coating by electrostatic spray guns


Dry film thickness 60 microns

Total system dry film thickness 60 microns.


Note:
Equipment supplied with manufacturer's standard can be approved if the quality of the coating
system meets the quality of above system.
The equipment supplier shall provide finish coat material enough for site application for all the
surface in order to turn over the equipment to the Employer after hot commissioning.

11.17 System No.17 : Floors Requiring Dust-free Surface


Concrete floors which are required to be dust-free and which are exposed to light traffic.
At Site
Surface preparation:

Prepare concrete by abrasive sweep blasting to remove any


laitance from surface.

Prime coat:

apply one coat of epoxy primer sealer to concrete. Primer


shall meet the moisture retention requirement of ASTM C
309 and be able to be applied as a concrete curing compound.
Primer shall also offer an over-coating period of up to one
year.

Finish coats:

2 coats of high solids epoxy.


Dry film thickness 100 microns per coat.

11.18 System No.18 : Embedded Material Painting or Galvanizing


At Site or At Work
Surface preparation:

Blasting according to ISO8501 / ASTM-D 2200


Grade: SA2.5

Finish coat:

zinc rich epoxy primer.

11.19 System No.19 : Alloy Steel Surfaces Insulated

12.0 REPAIR PROCEDURE


The Supplier shall submit the repair procedure for touch-up or complete repainting of the
equipment supplied by supplier, before issuing of Provisional Acceptance Certificate.
