1/ There are currently more than 50% of children from poor families and there parents dont often

have
enough nutrious taking care conditions and up-bringing skills. In order to help Vietnamese children taken
care of and developed thoroughly, especially children from poor families. From 2006 to 2020, ADB and
Vietnam committee for Population, Family and children have carried out the Early childhood
development project for the poor.
2/ Denmark stop its development assistance to Vietnam
Ministry foreign Affairs of Denmark says that Government decided to stop its development assistance to
Vietnam based on tremendous economic growth of Vietnam within the last couple of years. This has
pulled a great part of the population out of poverty. As a part of Denmarks Asia Strategy Danida (Danish
International Development Agency) is therefore in the process of out phasing its programs in Vietnam.
3/ Thailand garment exporters are asking the US to cut down the Thailand garment import tax to 0%
immediately so that they can penetrate much into the USs market before the TL US FTA comes into full
force.
4/ 11 people in drug trafficking group received death sentence
Hanoi, AP reporter on Thursday published news from local media, Ha Noi peoples court sentenced 11
people to death in a serious drug trafficking in Vietnam.
All the defendants are Vietnamese citizen, they are condemned for smuggling 440kg of drug in Vietnam
and China. According to the local information service, other 7 defendants had been received life sentences
by Ha Noi Peoples court before 9-day court case finished. In addition, other 3 people were jailed for 20
years.
5/ The changes of climate and the amount of rainfall have an effect on the spreading of malaria. The
hazard of epidemics breaking-out increases seriously after heavy rainy season.
Mosquito insects transmit the parasite which causes the malaria. Mosquitoes lay eggs in water storage
areas, therefor, there are much water, the more areas insect multiply.
The WHO estimates that each year malaria kills more than 1mil people, almost children in Africa, and
other hundred mil of infected people.
6/ Small pox is one of the deadliest diseases which account for more than 25% of dead rate in total of
infected people. The survivors often have deformed faces and blind. In the late of 1960, small pox clained
2 mil people each year.
7/ The small pox was completely wiped out in 1977 This was a great achievement of WHO. This diseases
virus was eradicated entirely except some were sequestered in the lab. Since, the small pox dont
occur naturally in any places in the world, the breaking-out of disease is on purpose, for example, it can
be used as a biological weapon.

8/ Urgent Assistance Needed For South Asia's Flood Victims


In South Asia, officials and aid groups are calling for urgent assistance to help nearly 30 million people facing
homelessness in the severe flood.

Helicopters have dropped food supplies but aid groups say food, drinking and shelters are in limited
supplied for hundred thousand of people in India, Bangladesh and Nepal.
2.1 The number of tourists coming to Hoian has increased considerably since this town was recognized as
the World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Some of Hoians ancient sites have been restored to maintain its
ancient features
Thailand used to be globally known as a tourist attraction. However, this country is one of the four
countries which are hardest hit by Tsunami. Experts fear that it may take Thailand at least 2 years to
recover damages to tourism. But the major concern is that Thailand is no longer the top travel choice of
tourists.
The Sixth Vietnam Japan cultural exchange program will take place in the Hoian ancient town,
Quangnam Province on 15th and 16th of August. This cultural event was jointly held by the Peoples
Committee of Hoian, Japanese International Cooperation Agency and the Sakai City. This is one of the
activities to commemorate 35 years of diplomatic relation between Vietnam and Japan(21st of September).

3. According to Japanese experts who come to survey the environmental pollution in Vietnam last July,
our environment has faced serious problems. Water pollution, air pollution and the increasing amount of
garbage are some of major concerns to Vietnam.
Pollution in HCM city has reached an alarming level. Everyday, before going out, anyone regardless of
age and gender has to be equipped with a mask to protect themselves from vehicle exhaust and fumes.
The UN estimate a million Kakistani are suffering from this severe flood. Over 3700 houses have been
washed away and a large area of cultivating land is under water. The intense rain continues to result in
landslides over a large area, isolating many neighborhoods. Flood water has also totally destroyed at least
45 bridges. Malaikands is the hardest hit district with the death of 102 people.
Meteorological experts say the weather all over her world may change unpredictably this year. According
to the World Meorology Centres forecast, Elnino may return. It happens every six to seven years. This
causes a large amount of rainfall in some areas and drought in others.
According to statistics of the Environment Bureau( the Ministry of Science, Technology and
Environment), there have been more than 90 oil spill in river and shore areas in our country., causing
great damage to economy and result in in long- term serous environmental pollution.
In June 12, the total number of people died of landslides, floods and lightning in areas of South and East
Bangladesh has reached 700. Over other 50 people have been still missing. The hardest hit area was a
crowded slum in the mountainous city of Chittagong. Officials have removed hundreds of people to the
concrete- built schools. Government and charitable organizations have provided food and drinking water
for about a thousand of people who have lost their home.
4. Malaria is one of the deadliest diseases in the world. About a million of people all over the world die of
this disease each year. Most of the victims are children living in mountainous areas in developing
countries. A recent report by WHO says campaigns against malaria have not been carried out properly in
these areas.
170 million of children all over the world are suffering from malnutrition. That is what the General
Director of UNICEF, Mr Carol Bellamy has stated at the opening session of the international conference
held in Pakistan in November 15 in attempt to discuss measure to improve children health care globally.
According to Bellamy, malnutrition and a lack of childcare knowledge have caused nearly 10 million
children under the age of 5 around the world to die of such a preventable diseases as measles, diarrhea
each year. There are over 120 million teenagers, mostly girl who have never been sent to school at the
moment..
WHO estimate from now to 2010, about 140 million people in Asia will be infected with diabetes,
including Vietnam, According to the Professor Nguyen Manh Phan, the chairman of the Ho Chi Minh
Heart Association, diabetes increases mostly in the big cities, accounting for 5% of the population.
The international AIDS Conference has started in the capital of Mexico City after warning that the change
of conquering the disease may be not in any forseeable future. Untill now, there have been over 25
million people dying of AIDS since it first appeared in 1981. There are about 33 million people with
AIDS and 90% of them are in poor countries.
There has been a great effort to help the infected over the last 2 years. However, only 3 million patients
have access to the drugs against HIV virus. Margaret Chan, the General Director of WHO, has warned the
fight against AIDS will last long.
5. 2 million people have been pushed into poverty due to tsunami according to a research undertaken by
the WB. The research also says poverty resulted from tsunami may take years to recover. The earthquake

on December 26, 2004 killed 273.000 people and caused two million others to fall into poverty. Indonesia
was the hardest hit country with one million people affected.
The Economist magazine has just stated the result of the survey on the quality of life of 111 countries all
over the world, based on elements such as average income per head, unemployment rate, weather
condition, health, social security, political stability, sexual equality, family and community life, ect.
Accordingly, Ireland is ranked first, followed by Switzerland, Norway, Luxembourg. European countries
form the majority of the Top 10 list. According to the Economist, Ireland is the country providing the best
quality of life thanks to elements desired by many countries such as low unemployment rate, political
freedom as well as good preservation of the traditional value in family and community.
Last weekend, KSMA in South India started a campaign against discrimination and required a
government recognition. Participants of the campaign say they want to be offered employment, travel by
free buses and be provided with some basic life necessities.
Members of the KSMA say they do not want to be pitied by anyone. They also complain they are always
treated like children everywhere, every time and many companies often hesitate when selecting small
people. The Kerala alone has more than 500 small people and the number of people joining Kerala
KSMA reached 300 in which the tallest is no taller than 135 centimeter.
6. A recent report by the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization says there are 100
million illiterate people worldwide. 45,3% of them are from the areas of Asia and Pacific Ocean. The
countries with the highest illiterate rate in this continent is India( 34,6%), followed by Bangladesh (6,8%),
Pakistan(6,2%) and Indonesia (2,4%)
A report tittled 2006 Survey on Global Education says countries including China, Brunei, Malawi, the
Maldivies, Singapore and Thailand will quickly reduce the number of illiterate people thanks to their
effort in education.
According to UNESCO, in addition to the impact of natural disasters, high school fee together with poor
education quality and limited education budget have pushed up the illiterate rate.
In 2007-2008, the government of Belgium granted 40 full scholarships to residents of Vietnam who wish
to follow the master and doctor program in Belgium Universities.
The scholarships consists of monthly stipend, round trip ticket, basic health ensurance, compulsory tuition
and fees. In some cases, expenses for field study can also be supported.
It is estimated that there are more than 38.000 Vietnamese students studying abroad. Vietnamese students
often wish to go to schools in England, America, Canada, Australia. However, they have recently tended
to study in Asia countries such as Japan, China, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia. In
addition, they also want to study in European countries including France, Germany, the Netherlands,
Switzerland and Russia.
Information provided by the oversea study exhibition showed that the proportion of people wishing to go
to America is 26.3%, England is 18.7%, Australia is 10%, Singapore is 9%
