funiculusandisknownasthevestibulospinalfasciculus.Itreceivesfibersfromtheoppositeterminal

neuronsformlargetransversefiberbundlesthattraversetheponsandascendtothecontralateral

haveconnectionswiththebasalganglia.Itisessentiallyarelaystationtakinginsensoryinformation
andthenpassingitontothecerebralcortex.Themyelencephalonincludestheopenandclosed
medullasensoryandmotornucleiprojectionofsensoryandmotorpathwaysandsomecranialnerve
nuclei.TheMidbrainalsocalledthemesencephalonisasmallregionofthebrainthatservesasa
relaycentreforvisualauditoryandmotorsysteminformation.Therepresentativesectionsare
transversesectionsthroughthespinalcordandbrainstemandcoronalsectionsthroughthe
telencephalonanddiencephalon.Otherareasofthebrainalsoaffectmemory.

neocortexisarecentlyevolvedstructureandisassociatedwithhigherinformationprocessingbymore
fullyevolvedanimalssuchashumansprimatesdolphinsetc.Insteadthegoalofthisbraintouristo
familiarizeyouwithmajorbrainstructuresandtheirfunctions.
