February 2010 - Newsletter

2009 has been a hard year for NCWA. Our 6 year support programme
from the Lottery Community Fund finished at the end of January and our
application for a three year grant from Nottingham City Council was
unsuccessful. Our application for a new 5 year funding package from the
Lottery has been delayed and an application for a hardship grant from
Nottingham City Council was unsuccessful.

Consequently, after a lot of discussion at committee meetings we had to

take the difficult decision to lay off our assistant manager Manda and
move our office and meeting space to a smaller room.
It has been evident that during 2008 and 2009 a lot of Chinese takeaways
and restaurants in Nottingham have had a difficult time, mainly due to the
national economic circumstances.

On the plus side, we had successful applications of £10,000 for Healthy

Since the last newsletter we have:

 Assisted a woman and her children with family difficulties. The

husband left the family following their business collapsing. We assisted
them to move to a council house and find new schools.
 Helped out a family where the father lost his job when a Restaurant
closed down suddenly without notice. We assisted him to get job
seeking allowance and to move to a council house to reduce their rent.
 Helped a couple to move to elderly sheltered housing.
