Idea Background The Light Bulb Moment

Technology based learning is absent in the Romanian high schools. Learning is

meaningful when students are engaged in hands on activities, understanding being
emphasized by the use of animations, videos, real-life examples, simulations in a virtual
learning environment. Also, the poor results in the official Baccalaureat Exam has made us
think about this idea.
This is why we have decided to create an online business delivering lessons for
students preparing the Romanian Baccalaureate.
The Company and Its Environment
Romanian students complete a 12 year education cycle (13 if we take into
account the newly introduced Year 0). The High School is made up of 4 years. Students can
chose between 4 basic tracks:
1.

Humanities Track
a. Philology
b. Social Sciences

2.

Science Track
a. Mathematics and IT
b. Life Sciences

3.

Services Track

4.

Resources Track

5.

Technological

The following table shows the subjects taken, track-wise, in the Baccalaureate
Exam. The written Romanian Language and Literature exam is compulsory across the
tracks. Furthermore, the written exams are preceded by 3 tests, one oral exam in native
language competencies, one oral exam in a foreign language competencies and a written
digital skills test.

Our target audience is the Year 11 and Year 12 students prepairing their

the tracks, and that Mathematics is taken by 4 out of 5 tracks students, we have decided to
offer courses in these 2 subjects, alongside a foreign language (English or French)

Website Structure
After registration, the student can access different areas of the website, according
to their subscription plan.
Each student has access, based on a combination between a password and user
name, to his / her account and his / her learning deck.
The students account contains a list of the courses subscribed to, a student
journal (for progress monitoring), an Inbox where teachers / system administrators can send
messages to the student, a list of homework submitted / pending, plus the personal student
profile.
Upon registration to a course, each student sits a placement test and a personality
test. These are done for a correct diagnostic evaluation of students skills, knowledge and
personality traits.
The learning deck contains a list of subjects take, For each subject, a list of topics
to be studied is provided, along with the homework to be completed and sent to the tutor.
One month before the exam, special revision classes are offered, where emphasis
is on mock exams and completion of past papers.

The Company and Its Price

After researching similar sites, we have seen that the trend is situated at around
50 lei / a one and a half hour lesson.
We have decided to create several subscription plans:

Subscrption Plans
Type A: student chooses only certain lessons which he wants to attend (like, for
example, only 1 lesson of Calculus). In this case, the price charged will be of 45 lei for the
lesson. The student can watch the pre-recorded video, can download a pdf transcript of the
course, send the homework and receave the corrected homework.
Type B: student chooses to attend a full course, with or without the revision
package. A one subject module is made up of 30 lessons, one and a half hour each one.
Students have access to the real time lesson, the pre recorded material, as well as the
course materials: the pdf lesson transcript, the homework, formula sheets, work sheets
attached to each lesson. Based on the previous price, a package would be 1350 lei. In order
to encourage those wanting to attend a full-course, we have decided to give a 10 % discount
on the full price, hence bringing it down to 1 215 lei.
Type C: Student attends only the revision sessions. The revision lessons start one
month before the exam, and students can access the website in the same way as during the
course. The revision courses will take place 3 times a week, for 4 weeks. The normal price
for the 12 lessons would be 450 lei. Here again, we decided to give a 10 % discount to those
wanting to attend all the revision courses, hence the revision package will cost 405 lei.

Upon registration, each student recives a card. There are 3 different types of
members with 3 different types of cards

Member Categories
Silver Member: He / she attends just one lessons, from time to time. The Silver
card is re-chargeable, the student can charge on a need to learn basis the card with the
needed amount of money (multiple of 45)
Gold Member: Student buys a one course package (either standard course or
revision course), with full access to real time, recorded and transcription materials. He / she
is given a Gold card.
Platinum Member: Student buys a full course and revision package. He / she will
have access to all course / revision materials.
The student can access the lessons from a computer / tablet / phone browser.
Also, an app will be created for the revision purposes, with a question bank. The Premium
members can download the app free of charge. The Gold member have to pay a 25 lei fees
for the download. As far as the Silver members are concerned, they can access only the
topic they attended question bank for a 10 lei download fee.
Gift cards will be created: students can offer to a friend a 45 or 90 lei gift card,
valid for one or two lessons.
Payments can be done online by PayPal, by SMS, or by bank transfer.
