TSVisessentiallyaVSAlightandanalysismodelsinTSVcanthenbedirectlyimportedinto
VSAformoredetailedandadvancedanalysis.
AsfarasIknow,Pro/EusersgravitatetotheCEToladdon.
WhatisLinkedIn?
Thesignificantdifference,inmyopinion,isthatTSVanalyzesdatumshiftbutlastIknewCE
Toldoesnoteventhoughitallowsthematerialmodifiersinthedatumreferenceframes.

MythoughtisthatifmodelsarebeingwrittenwithoutGD&T....atleastthatisconsistentin
practice....IthinkdrawingsarealsobeingreleasedwithoutGD&T....oronlyafterprocessing
thosedrawingsbyaGD&Tdredge.
Mythoughtthough...Idon'tthinkthisisanedgeforVSA...ThetruthisthatDCSdoesallowthe
usertofollowtherulesofY14.5M...althoughwhenIusedit,onecouldstillviolatesomerules.
I'veseenvariationmodelsbutcheredinVSA,3DCS,andCeTolsoftwarepackages...andI've
seengoodonesinall3.
Abiggerfactormaybepersonnel.
Ithinkthesepackagesrequireveryexperiencedpersonnel.But,unfortunately,thattalentpool
isdisappearing...Inthelastcoupleofweeks,sometop3Dvariationanalysisprofessionalswere
laidoff.Itmakesmewonderif"modelingpros"aregoingthewayofthedrawingchecker.

WellMike,myguessisthattherealissueisthatcompaniescontinuetotryandshortcutthe
relativelysimpleknowledgeandapplicationofGD&T.Itseemseveryonewantsasimple
solutiontohandlethesocalledsimple+/dimensions.Therealissueisthatveryfewpeople
reallyunderstandthevariationandinterpretationofthesocalled+/dimension.Itisveryvery
rareforanengineertoanswerthequestionsrelatedtoa+/dimensioninaGD&Tfundamentals
class,butsomehowtheywerecomfortablewithusingthemparticularlyifthedrawinginfacts
saystointerpretthedrawingpertheASMEY14.5standard.(Idon'treallycarewhatyear.:))
Asforgooddimensionalmanagementtypesbeinglaidoff?Thattoojustamazesme.Toooften
companymanagementjustisnotpresentedwiththe"money"withregardtogoodvspoor
dimensionalmanagement.Ihavepersonallyseenprojectplansthat"plan"forthetooling
changesandprojectdelaysmostofwhichwillbeduetodimensionalissues.Simplyamazing.
