Good morning everyone! Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Huong
Jie Yew. The title of todays presentation is about a person. He is Bill Gates. I choose Bill
Gates because he is my role model. He inspires me because he is a very successful
business man. Also, he is a great leader for his Microsoft Corporation. He cares about
other people who need help.
OK, lets start with his journey. Bill Gates was born in 28 of October 1955 and
grew up in Seattle, Washington. William H. Gates, who is Bill Gates father, was a lawyer.
Mary Maxwell Gates, Bill Gates mother, was the school teacher and the chairperson for
the United Way Charity. Bill Gates has two sisters named Kristi and Libby.
During his elementary school life, he surpassed all of his classmates, especially
in Maths and Science. As soon as his parents noticed his intelligence, they enrolled
Gates to Lakeside School, which is a private school. Also, he wrote his first computer
program in grade 8. According to reports, Bill Gates scored 1590 out of 1600 on his
Scholastic Aptitude Test.
He then was accepted by Harvard University. In Harvard, he met Paul Allen, who
became Gates close friend. They got obsessed with the computers that they even
skipped some classes to be in the computer lab. Unfortunately, they didnt graduate in
Harvard.
Later, they left Harvard University to devote their energy full time to Microsoft.
They had a belief that the personal computer would be a valuable in every home. They
collaborated together to make the language BASIC on the first microcomputer.
In 1975, they started the Microsoft Company.
Currently, Bill Gates is the chairperson of Microsoft Corporation. Not only that, he
is also the Co-Chair of The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He has brought the
corporation to continually advance and improve software technology. He has made it
easier, more cost-effective and everyone more enjoyable to use computers. Microsoft is
now the worldwide leader in software, services and solutions. Bill Gates is now the
world's second richest man with net worth of US$67 billion.
On January 1, 1994, Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates married. Currently,
they have three children named Jennifer, Rory and Phoebe.
You might think that Bill Gates is the richest person in the world. The reason is
that he has given out some of his money to people with diseases around the world. Bill
Gates and Melinda Gates formed a charity company called Bill & Melinda Gates
Foundation in 1994. It aims is bring innovations in health and learning to the global
community. This organization helps to cure diseases like AIDS and malaria.
Lastly, I would like to finish by saying some lessons we can learned from Bill
Gates. First, believe in yourself. It sounds simple but it could easily be the core secret to
Bill Gates and others success. Next, make an impact. Bill Gates doesnt just do things
because he can. He does things because the matter and he can make them scale.
