• SHUT DOWN SEQUENCE: -

i. Reduce steam to brine heater by closing the steam control valve ( T - 401) & when top temp. start
to come down reduce the brine flow F - 105 to about 8,000 t / h.
ii. As the steam reducing to B.H. , the reducing station , which is in service also to be closed , either in
hand or by AUTO and open the drain valves of LP lines to full.
iii. Close the steam to B.H. completely and isolate the steam valve H - 609 and open the turbine
exhaust valve to atmosphere H - 612, Check the steam header pressure & it should not be > 1.2 bar. If
the pressure is more then 1.2 bar, reduce the B.H. pump RPM.
iv. If the adjacent unit is in service, the turbine exhaust steam can be sent to that unit by opening the
LP steam header inter-connection valve H - 651.
v. As the steam is cut off to B.H. then the level in the condenser will be come down. Stop the B.H.
condensate pump. Change the Selection valve to Dump & close the valves in the discharge line.
vi. Keep the B.R. pump in service and let the temp. of brine come down to about 38 OC. Increase the
brine blow down flow ( F - 106 ) to maximum & increase the make up water flow also, so; that the brine
temp. will come down faster.
vii. As the brine temp. comes down, the distillate production also comes down then distillate level
controller put in manual & adjust the flow about 400 t / h (minimum flow).
viii. When distillate level comes down to about 30 mm, then close the discharge valve & stop the pump.
Change the Line / Dump Selection valve to Dump & close all isolating valves in the discharge line.
ix. Inform Lab. after shut down the distiller, they will stop all chemical dosing.
x. When brine temp. comes down < 45 OC , stop anti - scale & anti - foam chemicals dosing.
xi. When brine temp. comes down to 38 OC , then brine pump can be stopped.
xii. Close the make up , by closing the control valve & isolating valve.
xiii. As the brine level L - 101 starts to come down, then reduce turbine RPM & reach the brine flow to
6,000 t / h, by maintaining the level to 300 mm and again when level comes down , close the discharge
valve H - 154 according to the level. The brine blow down control valve remains full open & all brine
water will flow out. Then again the level comes down, reduce RPM according to the brine level. Reduce
the RPM to reach minimum (185 RPM) , when level reach to 30 mm stop the brine pump.
xiv. Check L.O. pressure low alarm. When the RPM of brine pump comes down and oil pressure will
come down. Then the primary oil pump will be started automatically to maintain the oil pressure. If L.O.
pressure comes down & primary oil pump do not start then, put the pump in Manual Selection & Start
the pump. Action should be taking very fast.
xv. As soon as the brine pump stops, the brine blow down control & isolating valves should be closed
to avoid the sucking of culvert water to enter the evaporator.
xvi. Then stop the ejector by closing the steam control valve & closing the isolating valve. Close spray
water isolating valve.

xvii. When level in the ejector condenser comes down to 30 mm, stop pump & close the discharge line
isolating valve.
 Close H.P. steam and spray water isolating valves from boiler side.
 Check the pressure P - 404 = 0 bar.
 Check the pressure P - 403 = 0 bar

• ACTION FROM LOCAL: -

i. Break the vacuum.
ii. Open ejector air valves - H - 701 & H - 705.
iii. Open Hogging ejector manual valve WF10G05 to about 30 % to atmosphere.
iii. Air will be entering through these lines to evaporator.

 Gradually vacuum will break & pressure will be _ P - 408 = 0 bar.

v. When pressure approx. P - 408 = - 0.35 bar _ open WG10G05 to full.
vi. Close steam isolating valve H - 501.
vii. Close spray water valve H - 413.
viii. Open all H.P. steam drain steam trap by pass valves to 20 %.

• ACTION FOR B.R. PUMP TURBINE FORM LOCAL.

i. Conform the L.O. pump & gland steam fan are in service.
ii. Open pneumatic air drain valve of turbine.
iii.Re - set the turbine.
iv. Open HP steam drain manual valves.
v. Close the valve H - 505.
vi. -?- valve to 20 %.
vii. Check the trench & sump pit level. Check sump pumps.
viii. When the evaporator pressure reaches to P - 408 = 0 bar, the draining of the evaporator can be
done.
ix. Open brine blow down control valve & isolating valve to full.
x. Open evaporator main drain valve H - 204.
xi. Open other drain & vent valves of evaporator water boxes, main heater etc.,
xii. If adjacent unit in services, the S.W. Supply pump can be stopped.
xiii. Open the inter-connection valve of SW header to 10 % and close the S.W. to unit valve H - 101.
xiv. So, the only sufficient water will be taken to the shut down unit for brine re-circulation turbine oil
cooling through the utility lines without disturbing the adjacent and service unit.
xv. When turbine upper & lower bearings temp. comes down to 40 OC , then L.O. pump and Gland
steam fan can be stopped.
xv. Then close the S.W. header inter-connection valve.
xvi. Unit will be completely shut down.

B. EMERGENCY SHUT DOWN: -

Emergency shut down is required in case of : -

1. Heavy leak in the system.
2. Boiler emergency shut down.

3. Major trouble in B.R. pump
4. Major trouble in S.W. system & Non- availability of stand S.W. supply pump.

• ACTION IN T.C.R.:-
Close steam to B.H. completely.
1. Close S.W. make up.
2. Reduce the B.R. turbine RPM & stop B.R. pump by push button
3. Close brine blow down control valve & isolating valve.
4. Stop B.H. condensate pump, according to level.
5. Stop distillate pump according to level.
6. Stop ejector & stop condensate pump.
7. Close HP steam & spray water from boiler side.

• ACTION IN L.C.R.: -

1. If required to keep the vacuum, then close the air valves of the ejector.
2. Stop Taprogge system Main heater & Heat gain section.
3. Open B.H. Condenser vent valve.
4. Stop chemical dosing.
5. Open all HP & LP steam drain valves.
6. Close HP steam valve H - 501.
7. Close spray water valve H - 413.
8. Close distillate isolating valve to tank H - 314.
9. Close deminerlising plant distillate valve to Lab H - 305 & open from other available unit.
10. Re set the turbine & close HP steam valve H - 505.
11. Conform L.O. primary oil pump & gland steam fan is in service.
12. Conform the L.O. cooling water for the turbine oil cooler.
