Before the experiment started, the instructor gave a lecture about Large Signal

amplifiers. It was also emphasized that everytime a student connects a particular

component in the circuit, the power must be turned off. Measuring electrical
parameters require the power to be turned on.
The experiment started by analyzing a class A amplifier. A circuit was shown and
the students constructed it and before turning the power on, the circuit was
checked to avoid accidents. When the oscilloscope was used, the students
connected channel 1 across the input voltage (Vin) and channel 2 was connected to
the output voltage (Vout). The signal generator was set for a sinusoid voltage
having a peak magnitude of 50-mV at 10-KHz. The students then adjusted the
settings on the oscilloscope to have a proper view of the input and output
waveforms. The output must not be clipped and distorted. After the necessary
connections had been done, the input and output waveforms was sketched on a
paper and the peak input and output voltages were measured afterwards.
The class B amplifier was analyzed right after class A. A new circuit was shown and
was constructed by the students. The same procedure was applied when the
oscilloscope was used but this time the signal generator was set for a sinusoid
voltage with a peak magnitude of 1-V at 10-KHz. The settings were also adjusted so
that the input and output waveforms can be viewed properly. The input and out
waveforms were then sketched on a paper and the peak voltages were measured.
The same circuit was used but the 15-K was replaced with a 2.7-K. The power
was turned off during the change of resistors. The power was turned and the peak
voltage of the generator was maintained at 1-V peak sinusoid. The input and output
waveforms were sketched and the input and output voltages were measured.
The power was turned off again but the students did not disassemble the circuit.
The 2.7-K was just replaced with a 20-K resistor. The swap of resistors was
necessary for the analysis of a Class AB amplifier. The same procedure about the
oscilloscope was applied but the peak voltage of the generator was maintained at 1V peak sinusoid. The input and output waveforms were sketched and the input and
output voltages were measured.
The last part of the experiment was about the analysis of a Class C amplifier. A new
circuit was shown and the students assembled it and the same procedure regarding
the channel 1 and channel 2 of the oscilloscope was applied but this time the signal
generator was set to have a peak amplitude of 1-V at 10- KHz. The settings were
adjusted properly so that the students can have a proper view of the input and
output waveforms. The input and output waveforms were sketched on a paper and
the input and output voltages were measured.
